If I were there, I'd be raising hell about it right now.

I've never played C&C Generals and wasn't following this mod, but I'm afraid that this could lead to more fan projects being shot down... Heck, my own work could get targeted someday, and that's more likely to drive me away from this community than anything I put up with here on the forums.

Yeah, I've got a small [and still pretty naff] Halo fan game coming along with RPGMaker XP. Now I've got some more free time I was going to try and finish parts of it, but I'm not going to do so if MS Legal is now putting a stop to that kind of thing.

EDIT: Clarity.

(10:19:49 PM) Scruss: oh and pezza, i saw what you did to that cat
(10:20:17 PM) Pezza: You were the one with the video camera breathing heavily. Of course you saw.

Yeah, I was disappointed to see it shot down. I had been following it for a while.

Chapter Founders Bungie's Group Support
Mob of Angry Peasants

They were too much doing it their own way. I mean I saw some units that wern't exactly in the HAL0 story. Also they didn't really like feedback. Basicly I think they got it into their head that this was "their" product and not Bungie's.

HAL0 when it was still being drawn out was suposed to be a RTS but they deciced that a shooter would be better. They were right.

There are other groups that use HAL0 and works straight for them. They actually make sure they get the records straight with Microsoft. It just takes a little time to talk things through. Heck RT even makes a profit from it of course they pay a "royalty" to microsoft since it is theri interlectual property but they manage to make do even with that expense.

Oh, so its just M$ attacking their own fans with the developer having to follow their whim. No matter how you look at it, this sucks.

Though, no offense, you guys better not go after fanfiction. That would be a sure fire way of killing off a good portion of your real fans.

I know this'll sound -blam!-y as, but why does sketch post that on HBO, yet he never posts here anymore?

I'm afraid for my own project now. If microsoft keeps this up, they'll be shutting down a lot of really good fan-made halo projects. I think it's rediculous.

Do you feel what I feel, see what I see, hear what I hear?
There is a line you must draw between your dream world and reality

i don't understand, if the HG mod wasn't for monetary profit, what's the big deal? People made hundreds of mods that featured Trademarked material, but they were free and as far as I know, no one worried bout it (except for the coffee mod).

Now that's banned, this could set a precedent for others, but I think most other companies aren't as paranoid.

Probably cause microsoft just wants to steal their idea and make more money off it....

Personal speculation?

But even so, making the post on a 3rd party site, when there was a perfectly rational thread here in the community he's paid to interact with. If he doesn't want to interact with the asshats and idiots who run rampant in "speculation" threads and -blam!-ing threads, then so be it, but this thread is remarkably calm, all things considered.

Like I said, it was only personal speculation. The only person who can answer the question of "why do you post there more than here?" is the person in question.

Personal speculation that is accurate. The only place is more crazy than the Halo 2/3 forums is 4chan /b/.

This is not something that should have happened.

yes, the halogen crew should've asked permission before using the halo universe for a game.
but that was no reason for microsoft to shut them down. there could have been other thing that they could have done first.

Personally, i enjoy modding games, and if i ever choose to mod a game, i will never ever show any progress online. Microsoft is a major corporation, and it has absolutely nothing at all that could have detered sales from their products.

If they shut down halogen, they should shut down all machinima clans. every single fan fiction writer, and everybody in the community that speculates about halo 3 in the least.

Fans of a great game franchise were simply showing how much they enjoyed the game, and were willing to put in hard work into showing that they did in fact enjoy it.

I've followed halogens news for quite some time.
I cannot even play command and conquer on my computer, but the progress was fun to see, and looked like it was gonna be something fun to see.

Whoa! Slow down there bud. First of all, I have no idea why Microsoft shut the project. I also haven't seen the reason posted here. I wouldn't mind making sure I know why Microsoft chose to shut the project down. I highly doubt, however, that it was because it was a fan made project.

Just because a project was shut down means that Microsoft must shut down all projects. Do you honestly think Microsoft just singled out Halogen for the sake of flexing their legal muscles?

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

I'm also scared of my project that I thought of starting. It's a shame that they had to tell them 3 years into the project. Maybe Bungie will post a little news story about this, even though I think their point was made by Sketchfactor's post.

Might I ask what this has to do with the topic at hand? Shouldn't people be allowed to be outraged if something they were looking forward to was shut down by another company?

DO NOT DO IT! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING IT! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT NOT DOING IT!

I'm worried about Halo CE and the mods and maps that have came out...

  • 09.11.2006 12:04 AM PDT

Thinking of something witty to write here since 2004...

And you see people making mods of other games for games. You can even look at Halo Custom Edition. You've got a Metroid mod being made for that but you don't see anyone being pulled up for that. And what about certain games with cars. People are making 'copyrighted' vehicles for those games.

Awwww man, it's like Fox Interactive and all the AvP mods they managed to shut down, all over again. Oh well, maybe the AvP mod for BF 2142 will make it, now FI has disolved.

As far as IP goes, I can see both sides of the argument, though a resolution should have been made a lot sooner. It's sad to see such a promising looking mod closed so close to a Beta phase. I did hear a whisper that there was a possibility of a commercial Halo RTS, though speculation is just that.

The thing is, who the hell is going to argue with MS? Well, apart from Sony maybe....

That kind of sucks though one word can some this up Plagiarism, its one hell of a good law for companies. It would mean that you would need to prepose Ideas to MS to get them approved (though there is more chance of Halo 3 being stopped) :-)
