I'm not biased, I'm just telling it like it is. Microsoft had their reasons for shutting the project down, and I support them no matter what the reasons. It's a good thing that Microsoft has asserted themselves on this occasion - it reminds everyone who's really in charge of Bungie and Halo. I can only hope they take Halogen to court and sew them over this matter, it would really show them what criminals who plagarize others' work deserve. But in the end Halogen = pwned and the world is a better off place because of it.
Wow, what an ass you are.
If every member of the HaloGen team was hired tomorrow by Microsoft, and put to work making their "mod" into an actual game, would you still be this much of a sniveling suckup? Would that exact same content you're calling a plagiariziation suddenly become this fantastic art and magically the world "would be a better place" because of this fantastic new title Microsoft was bringing to you?
Please, shut up. I've heard about as much of your fanboi rhetoric as I can stand.
It sucks hardcore that things had to happen this way. The Halogen group are a talented team, and it's a shame to see their work come to an abrupt end like this. Nobody in their right minds could look at their hard work and dedication and not feel that they had something awesome on their hands.
Having said that, they took a risk when they chose to continue working on their project. There's no statute of limitations on when an intellectual property can be protected, and the assumption that "if they haven't stopped us now, they won't stop us later" is a dangerous one to make. As much as you'd like to theorize that Microsoft spent the last three years giggling amongst each other and watching the mod, simply waiting for the mod's release to jump upon it and tear out its jugular, the fact of the matter is that Microsoft is a much larger company than just being a publisher of copies of Halo, and matters like this are not handled instantly. Particularly when it's something that starts small, such as Halogen. It's also important to remember that Halo was a much different thing to the people that own it three years ago than it is today, so it makes sense that they would more fervently protect their copyright. Try as you might, you cannot slight someone for protecting their best interest, even if they're a "megaconglomerate corporation."
It has been said before, but it is likely that the Halogen team could always put their unique work into an equally unique title, eschewing the Halo-related work and any ties to someone else's intellectual property to create something wholly their own. I believe they would then be able to release their work. Further, in general I think it's far more impressive to go the fully creative route and make something that isn't based on someone else's previous work. Simply put, I think it is possible for them to release their work. Just not as long as they shackle it to Halo.
