Alright, I noticed several flaws with Gearbox Software's work on Halo PC, and now that Halo 2 Vista has fallen strictly into the hands of Bungie Studios, I hope you guys can correct these. This is just my opinion on what I hope can be implemented into Halo 2 Vista. I don't believe that I am asking for too much here or anything that would take an extensive amount of time to refine into the game. Please keep in mind that I own all three versions of Halo - Halo: CE, Halo 2, and Halo PC, so before you pass off any of my suggestions as simply being ignorant, please think again.

1.) LAN co-op - I understand that online co-op would probably be close to impossible due to the fact that the netcode would never be able to calculate efficiently enough all the physics, AI, and player movements while transferring the data back and forth between computers over the internet. And obviously splitscreen would be pretty much impossible to do on a computer because you can't have two mouses, so to remedy this, all I ask is that you allow us to create LAN co-op games. This should resolve the lag issues since your computers will be directly connected and receiving data as quickly and efficiently as possible between each other. Co-op is one of the key necessities that makes Halo so fun. PLEASE at least give us the option to LAN it.

2.) Don't lower texture quality / graphical quality - I know this is an odd suggestion, but considering that Gearbox did this with Halo PC, I hope that this mistake will not be made again. Gearbox claimed that the graphics were supposed to be improved, but that was totally false. The only reason graphics on Halo PC might look better over XBOX is simply because you can play at higher resolutions. Beyond that, in Halo PC you had missing shine and scratch mark effects on the Assault Rifle, missing shield colors on jackals, missing shader effects on the Halo ring in the main menu screen, missing smoke/fog effects in caves... I could go on and on, and it really bugs me. I don't understand why Gearbox couldn't simply make a "Very High" option for graphics settings to enable ALL of the effects from the XBOX version, since there are people out there like me who have the PCs that can handle them. Please do not lower the quality again for Halo 2 Vista.

3.) Walk key - Nothing too fancy I think. It would just be kinda cool if you could press and hold the alt key down to have your character walk instead of run. Since Halo 2 for XBOX allowed you to control the speed that you are running depending on how far you hold a direction with the joystick, this would make up for it.

4.) No auto-aim - This is a PC game and many of us are wanting to play this for the sake of now being able to use the mouse and keyboard for precision aiming and movement. Now there is no need for auto-aim, including for XBOX360 controllers. Why? Because that would present an unfair advantage for them over the mouse and keyboard users. Even though it is definitely more difficult to aim with a controller, if you leave the auto-aim in then it makes it too easy for them again. If you have a PC and you're buying Halo 2 Vista, you should be using a mouse and keyboard anyway. It's just simply much easier to use once you get used to the controls.

This is all I ask for the game. I don't even care about the new vehicles or new maps, I just want the core gameplay done right first.

Yes, and probably a thread that no one reads. -_- Look, I'm sorry if I've made suggestions that others have already done before, but if this all has already been said, then just simply ignore this topic and move on. No one is forcing you to read it. Please don't waste time bashing me simply because I didn't post this stuff where you want it to be posted. I want comments about the suggestions, not about which thread this should be in. Thank you. :)

Omnios, stfu. Who cares? At least he typed a well-written post. You make some good points there and hopefully they will be in the game.

But yes, I do recommend you use the search bar, and read the sticky threads as well.

I agree. Especially your graphics part, I also didn't like the fact that Gearbox took out the cool texture on the Assault Rifle. It looks like you're holding a big, fat, black textbook like a gun, rather than a cool silverish, battletorn MA5B Assault Rifle. Ooh-rah!

  • 09.10.2006 12:38 PM PDT

1: that would be uber-fs.
2: i don't really mind about graphics
3: walk key? why would one want to walk?
4: down with cheaters!

3: walk key? why would one want to walk?

The real question is, why not have a walk key? What's the harm in it? It's just something cool and convenient to have I think. There are many games out there that have a walk key even though they probably don't absolutely need it. But anyway, I will respect your opinion.

And Apoc please read the post right above yours before ignorantly making a big deal out of where this should belong. Thanks. :) Seriously though, quit making a big deal about such a trivial thing and read the thread for what it is.

About the walk key, it would be useful to move slow enough to not trigger the motion tracker. I mean, crouching was supposed to do that, but it doesn't.

please STFU and leave my forum.

and i wasnt flaming you i was stating a fact. fact =/= flame.

kthxbye.

*Your* forum?

You insulted and flamed someone who made an intelligable, reasoned post. Ok, so theres already a thread with it in.

Why not just give him a link to it and welcome him to the forum?

I agree with the walk button, as Im sure a third person cam mod will be out (or even included) and many people will want to have the ability to make the MC walk at times when creating vids etc.

we don't need extra levels/features besides the ones in the original box version.
i'm pretty sure that capable halo ce modders and programmers will convert to h2v

let's leav bungie for making the gameplay mechanics/functions better and the modders for custom content. (besides h2v comes out with h2 HEK or so i read in one of the news posts)

thing that bugs me the most in halo is that you have to lead your shots ans inn most cases have to shot infront of your targert but un games like battlefield 2 and unreal tournament 2004 you dont have to lead your shots which i smuch better so bungie just fix this problem plz.

I think we should have a walk key. And an option whether it would toggle or if you had to hold down the key in order to walk/run.

Also, dalmedya, do your research before you say things you don't know what you're talking about. Crouching in Halo 2 makes you invisible on the motion sensor.

no! while i agree that it would be cool, u cant change gamepley stuff in trhis port!!
I fail to see how this simple addition to H2V would change the gameplay. If anything, it would make it more similar to the original XBOX version, as you can control how fast you run depending on how far you hold the joystick...

WTF are you talking about? They never lowered the texture resolutions for anything. If you wanted those shine and scratch marks on the AR and such, then your minimum requirements would have jumped up a good deal. They were removed because BUNGIE MANDATED THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS and low level cards simply couldn't do multipurpose mapping. Gearbox did nothing but what Bungie demanded they do. They were working a contract.

You see the nice little differences in PC vs CE? That was Gearbox flexing their muscles with the small grant of freedom they were allowed when told they could make CE.

Umm.. first of all I actually managed to download a mod that brought back the assault rifle's shine and scratch marks, courtesy of a guy named "SuperSunny" who did the ripping/modding, and my framerate did not even drop in the slightest. If you don't believe me I can even take the time to provide a screenshot of me using it in-game. And it's just not logical to say that a few simple shaders on ONE weapon could so significantly affect the performance of the game on someone's computer.

And whether you want to accept it or not, I just listed off in my first post a number of graphical effects that were missing from the game, so they DID lower the quality.

And your other argument can easily have been solved as I've said already. All they needed to do is put in a "Very High" option for shader effects so that the people who can handle them can enable it, while the low-end computers don't have to. That's what graphics options are for. I think what it ultimately comes down to is Gearbox's laziness, although you may not be willing to admit it.
