My guess, as an amateur:
The cinematics in HALO use the in-GAME engine, not spooky FMVs (as we can plainly see). Elaboration on this subject by someone smarter than me would be good. Another example is the opening to Keyes: You skip the intro, and RIGHT when you start, on the left in a small corridor, is an Assault Riflr, pointing at you, flat on the ground, but upright; vertical. Let the opening cinematic play through, and it's not there.
