Subject: A Warning From The Overlord

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Today, I had to deal with several users trying to get access to other's Windows Live ID accounts. The culprits were simply tricking some of you into giving your password away. While this particular case has been dealt with, I thought a simple security refresher was in order.

No offense but........finally, he catches them.

No offense, but......he never should have needed to do this. People should be smart enough to not give out their passwords. They shouldn't need to get the Overlord of the site involved because of their mistakes.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

If anyone's interested, there was a little article on passwords today on msn which you may all find helpful. The article is here

If you're lazy and don't want to go read it all, here's the bit which may interest you:

The don'ts

- Don't use only letters or only numbers.

- Don't use names of spouses, children, girlfriends/boyfriends or pets.

- Don't use phone numbers, Social Security numbers or birthdates.

- Don't use the same word as your log-in, or any variation of it.

- Don't use any word that can be found in the dictionary — even foreign words.

- Don't use passwords with double letters or numbers.

Some of the worst passwords are: password, drowssap, admin, 123456, and the name of your company or department. Finally, never leave it blank. That's a surefire way to let the bad guys into your system.

Finally, Bungie is now doing somthing to stop (or at least slow them down) these seps.

Other than that, thanks for the reminder!

iustus fortuna. casu consulto.

You should never divulge user name and password information, even your surname for that matter of fact.

Think of your live account and user ID as you bank account and credit card - would you give someone your credit card and pin number? - I think not!

Thanks Tom. I'd never even think someone would want my account info though, seeing as how I put the smallest bit of info needed. That way, nobody can find me or attempt to steal my identity. I'll watch for it.

These so-called "Group Wars" have some hackers too (I believe. I heard compliants about them). These guys will do anything to set a trap for you.

I don't get it. What's the point of taking over a group? It's e-terrorism.

A dude called Viggy did this to me and destroyed 4 of my groups. He also took over another, but didn't destroy it. The groups had a combined amount of about 175 members, so I was pretty pissed off.

My groups were spartan themed and were destroyed by an elite fanatic.

I'm going to say it. I can't believe anyone would actually fall for that sort of thing.

There are so many online games where the company will tell the users that they'll NEVER ask for personal information regarding login or credit card info.

Yet, people still fall for it, somehow. You'd think they would know that if you guys REALLY needed that info, you'd just pull it up. Actually, isn't that information even encrypted from you guys as well? That being the case, that'd only be more reason you wouldn't ask for it in the first place. At least, not over XBL or 'in person', but rather, in private via email.

I don't mean to call people idiots or anything, but c'mon..

Sigs are stupid.

A: How are these users asking? Is it something like, "hey, look, b.net -BLAM-'s your pass, try it!"?

B: What did your avatar come from?

And it's your connection that's slower than turtle sex.

In........................................................Out .

Whoever who gets their account taken by someone because they gave their password to someone with a name like "T3h 4chr0n0$" is a total moron and deserves to have their account/group taken over.

You guys are not catching it. Some members who are involved in "Group Wars" are hackers. In other words, you get caught up in the mix. You're information (not explaining) may be in jeopardy.

Recently Dark Falcon has taken over most of the groups that i'm in. There is no way he could of got Full contol in any of the groups since there is only cirtain people with those permitions and they have had them for along time. Maybe you could investate this cause its implauseable that he could take over well over 5 groups through gaining Full Control.
