Ok, this is something i think we could fix. Not only are we having problems with Elitism on the forums, but we are promoting it when a member signs up. I took a screenshot of a new account i made today (specifically for this purpose).

http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/5989/bungieelitismfd7 .jpg

This just seems a little... contradictory to our efforts.

----------------------------------------------------------

Becuase people cant seem to read these pages, i am going to state that i realise what this is, and that i know it was a joke and not intended for literal meaning. But me taking it seriously is PROOF that others will do the same. I didnt take it seriously the moment i read it, im just trying to point out that from this angle, anyone could have a reason not to go to this site.

Even from the angle of "we are better than non-members" turns people away. They will read this and say "Until i become a member there, i am not as good as those members. what makes me want to go to a place where people think they are better than everyone else?"

Im not the only one who can look at it like this. Now stop telling me im an idiot and read the damn replies.

God forbid a company, famous for it's public relations, quirky humour and interesting history should make a two sentence long joke.

To be honest, I think people will be destructive and idiotic regardless of what there is at their disposal. Post counters, avatars, ranks, join dates, they are just the ammunition for idiots to be idiots.

They will always use something to attack each other. I like the sign up thing though, I mean, it is so diffirent from the standard forms you have to fill out everywhere else in your life.

True, but it also takes 2 times longer than any other forum...

I just dont think that promoting Elitism, even jokingly, is a good thing for the site. Some people are bound to take it seriously/literally. If it has been found by me, then anyone else here could discover it and use it as fodder against the site.

Apart from being a joke, doesn't the outlined mean that we can act like we're better than non-registered users?

So basically the only thing that can happen is that people join the site to complain about how non registered members (who must be registering to see the message in the first place) are being subjected to discrimination.
Once they join to complain about this, they are registered members and therefore hypocrites.

Do we really want to listen to the demands of hypocrites? That's not the Bungie.net I know.

... yeah... I think that was an alright cover up piece O' logic.

No, I think only you take it seriously. You also perhaps need to look up elitism in the dictionary. Its very different to competition which is what the page you are referencing sems to be encouraging. Plus, why are you so bothered? It scares me that this is the most pressing thing on your mind right now. It scares me even more that I am in fact lower on the social ladder then you. I am taking time to respond to your rediculous post.

-blam!- it I'm off for breakfast.

If you take one thing away from this, understand its just another dank corner of the internet, with the members of said corner having opinions which frankly count for squat. Nobody is going to use the Comleted Registrataion page as 'fodder' against the site, as the issue is simply not worth anybody's time to address. Think before you post.

Ah, but can a white man not say a black man is being discriminated?

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

... O.o

I hope this thread is sarcasm.

However, one drawback, it would also relieve that forums of nearly all enjoyment.

Soo.... why would you still want that?

Seriously, Bungie doesn't promote elitism. If you are offended by a small joke on a random section of an internet website, you need to be slapped. Besides, you have no rights here anyway. Achronos is your god, we are all subjects.

Yup, I think that some have missed the point here.

That section is only, as everyone's said, a joke and it's just a small quirky way of getting people to join because they'll be better than people who don't join if they do.

Interpret it how you like, but at the end of the day it's not elitism, it's fun.

Emn1ty, I thought this issue was pretty well wrapped up on the H2S forums. It didn't really needed to be taken here as well. It's a joke, and if people take it seriously then there's something wrong with them.

Plain and simple, let it go.

*edit* And yeah, I just saw it as a joke. I think it's simply a matter of interpretation.

I was thinking of a way to construct a forum that would avoid all the problems we've been experiencing. But it will take a little effort.

First, turn on the moderation feature, so that new topic creations need to be approved by a moderator before they go online. Obviously, we can't have the moderators reading every post, so only do this for topic creations.

Second, have an automated moderation of the replies so that ONLY replies exactly matching either, "Yes," "No," "Maybe," or "WTH," are allowed through.

I think in terms of relieving the forums of the current problems this would work well. However, one drawback, it would also relieve that forums of nearly all enjoyment.

How very Orwellian of you.

Lest we forgot that this "elitism" to which you refer only exists on the forums. That whole bit about snobiness and aloofism, aside from being a joke, would only draw scorn and laughter if exhibited in real life. It's not like the real world would take being a member of B.net seriously. In terms of in house elitism, keep things in perspective. You are getting upset about children being A-holes on an online forum for a video game developers.
While I love to have conversations like these, it's just unhealthy to take this place so seriously.

I know it was a joke, im just telling you guys and pointing this out to you that it could be used against the site, and taken seriously as I have done. You guys have signed up months, even years ago, so you know it is just a joke. But what is to say that some 13 year old kid who doesnt understand that starts poking wholes at us?

Im not trying to say it is on purpose, im just pointing it out to the people who should kno. We did discuss this on h2s.com, but why keep this from the bungie community? I think you would rather want to know about this, than not know.

Anyways, lock this thread, delete it, i dont care. I just wanted to point out there are a few ways for it to be taken, and some of them are too literal.

I'm not trying to be a smartarse here, but not many 13 year olds would actually bother reading all that writing, they would move on to the more fun stuff.

If a douche, such as yourself, is so easily offended that they are bothered by what you've just shown us, they're probably not gonna fit in here anyways. At the very least, you have to be able to take a "your mom" joke without pissing your panties to stay here and actually enjoy yourself. You just want attention and want to create controversy. For that, I label you the official bastard of the day. Official because I say so. Bastard because I never loved your mother.

This whole post wasn't needed in the least bit, Meech.

I'm not flaming you, but let me tell you about The Septagon: The Septagon is a community forum. When someone has a problem with the Bungie.net website, he/she comes here to share it with us. The glory of it is that no matter what the problem, you should feel free to discuss it here without fear of overly harsh criticism, or scorn.

To be honest, that's what you just did. You shouldn't have said those things. We need to show some compassion and understanding when dealing with community members and their issues. As stated, we're like a "family."

Could you please edit your post to sound less harsh? To be honest, stuff like that only hurts peoples' feelings in the long run. It's not needed. Granted, this issue was a subjective one- either you're worried about the problem, or you're not. Just because you don't think it's a problem means that Ultima Geek doesn't see it as a problem.

That is what The Septagon is all about. We help each other here. And with that, we can come here for help for ourselves. Please help him by contributing to the topic at hand, or not saying anything at all.

We can all get along here. We're the Seventh Column. :-)

Oh but it was, I shall explain. Read on.

I fully understand the purpose of the septagon. If I didn't, I wouldn't spend as much time here as I do. If someone has a legitimate issue or suggestion, I treat them with respect and try to be helpful. However, in this case, this guy is an attention seeker. He has picked the most random insignificant problem he can and has taken it to two forums. He's taken the stance of being the defender of the less the .01% of people that will be offended by what is clearly meant to be a joke just so people will listen to him for a moment. That makes him a douche IMO and I have no problem of informing him that to me, he is a douche.

To be honest, that's what you just did. You shouldn't have said those things. We need to show some compassion and understanding when dealing with community members and their issues. As stated, we're like a "family."

Who are you more likely to be honest with, your family or some stranger? Family, right? That's what I'm doing, being honest. He is creating a problem where there isn't one and I'm attempting to make him regret that. I would expect you to do the same if I had brought a BS issue to the table such as this one.

The only way that post is getting edited is if a mod does it for me. If I hurt his feelings, I can deal with that. Maybe he will learn to find a real issue before taking it to two forums.

That is what The Septagon is all about. We help each other here. And with that, we can come here for help for ourselves. Please help him by contributing to the topic at hand, or not saying anything at all.

We can all get along here. We're the Seventh Column. :-)

I think I have contributed. Normally I'm helpful and in this case I think I helped the general public by attempting to make this fellow shut up.

BTW, if there comes a day that "your mom" jokes are unacceptable on B.net, I'm leaving.
