Now that you've taken the time to look at my sig, I actually regret not providing you with something more worthwhile.

I fully understand the purpose of the septagon. If I didn't, I wouldn't spend as much time here as I do. If someone has a legitimate issue or suggestion, I treat them with respect and try to be helpful. However, in this case, this guy is an attention seeker. He has picked the most random insignificant problem he can and has taken it to two forums. He's taken the stance of being the defender of the less the .01% of people that will be offended by what is clearly meant to be a joke just so people will listen to him for a moment. That makes him a douche IMO and I have no problem of informing him that to me, he is a douche.

If there were something likethe Irony Police they would raid the forums at at some point and silently haul away a huge chunk of the community for "alternative means of interrogation"...(yes I know...I'd be the first one taken...shush now)...thats your opinion dude..just like this guy has an opinion about the site..neither of you is wrong...but youre not right either...theyre your personal opinions to have and theyre fine as long as you dont try to force feed them down anyone's throat or throw there's under a bus to make yours seem more creditable...the funny thing is that youre exhibiting the sort of behavior this yahoo is complaining about..now both of you go to your rooms and watch some Animaniacs....

I don't have opinions. When I speak it becomes fact. Chuck Norris is my cousin.

As bad ass as the Walker Texas Ranger is he got his ass handed to him by imcomparable Bruce Lee...plus he looks like the off-spring of Willie Nelson and David Hasslehoff..Hasslehoff providing the immense body hair and penchant for nut hugging jeans...

We do not speak of "The Day of the Brucing." It is well known that Chuck had taken all of the world's Polio into himself that day so that he may try to rid the world of it. Had he not been ill, Bruce would have fallen to the beard.

Note: I had trouble thinking of a disease that had been irradicated, so if you or someone you know suffers from Polio, I'm sorry.

What's wrong with saying that the members of this community are good folks? Better than average? Deserving of recognition and praise? In my opinion, many of them are.

But because of how many of the good members of this community are, I don't think that they would be the sort of people who would act that way, even if they were entitled to.

Sure, we've got some arrogant jerks here (*raises hand*), but I try to never lose sight of the good folks, no matter how attention-grabbing the losers act.

Nah, you're not a jerk. I don't know what standards you use to compare people on the "Jerk Chart" but you're far from it on mine.

It's all a matter of opinion when you're dealing with community members. There are some people that I adore on this site, and some that I don't. But in my eyes, I see someone as equal as me- even if they joined a mere minute ago. Then, based on how they post, you can tell the kind of person they are.

So individually, we make generalizations about some people, and conclusions about others based on facts (like watching how they act.) With the community- it's a giant melting pot. There are so many different people here that I can safely say that you'll never find another Iceman, or another Recon or Wuyie or Mabian or anyone else for that matter.

That's what makes us "the best," as the post in question more or less sums it up. We're all unique in our own special way. Bungie.net is one giant, fun, dysfunctional family.

And I <3 it.

I'm pretty sure somebody isn't going to act "snobbish" just because they read a joke and think they absolutely must act that way. People will act like jerks because they ARE jerks. Same way people will be humble if they are already a humble person.

Somehow I thought you'd assume that right off the bat, but I guess not, being that peoples' emotions are so easily controlled by a sarcastic sentence.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

If a *censored*, such as yourself, is so easily offended that they are bothered by what you've just shown us, they're probably not gonna fit in here anyways. At the very least, you have to be able to take a "your mom" joke without *censored* to stay here and actually enjoy yourself. You just want attention and want to create controversy. For that, I label you the official *censored* of the day. Official because I say so. *censored* because I never loved your mother.

This whole post wasn't needed in the least bit, Meech.

I'm not flaming you, but let me tell you about The Septagon: The Septagon is a community forum. When someone has a problem with the Bungie.net website, he/she comes here to share it with us. The glory of it is that no matter what the problem, you should feel free to discuss it here without fear of overly harsh criticism, or scorn.

To be honest, that's what you just did. You shouldn't have said those things. We need to show some compassion and understanding when dealing with community members and their issues. As stated, we're like a "family."

Could you please edit your post to sound less harsh? To be honest, stuff like that only hurts peoples' feelings in the long run. It's not needed. Granted, this issue was a subjective one- either you're worried about the problem, or you're not. Just because you don't think it's a problem means that Ultima Geek doesn't see it as a problem.

That is what The Septagon is all about. We help each other here. And with that, we can come here for help for ourselves. Please help him by contributing to the topic at hand, or not saying anything at all.

We can all get along here. We're the Seventh Column. :-)

Uh oh! Watch out guys, here's a man who knows the Septagon! I think we could all use a good lecture from him.

No, I thought what Meech said was pretty accurate. Mabye not the douche part, but the rest was pretty head-on. If you can't take that much sarcasm, you won't enjoy this site anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Meech and I already resolved it. He's just ........."Speaks his mind" :-)

I just thought the <insert cleaning aid for bodies> comment was a tad extreme, but that's what makes Bungie.net so great. The Extreme members, LoL.

And yeah, it was a joke (the issue brought up in the Original Post). But it's all a matter of taste. If he wants to interpret it as offensive, he can. I don't see any problem with it, but if he does, then he has a right to share it with us.

Ok, this is something i think we could fix. Not only are we having problems with Elitism on the forums, but we are promoting it when a member signs up. I took a screenshot of a new account i made today (specifically for this purpose).

http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/5989/bungieelitismfdf.jpg

This just seems a little... contradictory to our efforts.

I have a question for you, who actually reads that?

I prove my point.

  • 09.13.2006 2:29 PM PDT

If it was not a joke, I would say that it doesn't promote eliteism on these forums, but it is intended to promote eleteism over other forums (and possibly communities) in an effort of world domination.

You guys, i understand it is a joke, so why you are all telling me that fact about 30 times doesnt seem to make sense. Im merely stating that anyone can use this against us. Its true that some do read the rules.

Im not an attention hog, so calling me an idiot isnt needed. I merely wanted to point this out to you becuase of the reason you guys said, "No one reads that". So none of you know its there if you havent seen it. Some people do, like i have and a few others, which means there are probably thousands of people who have actually read this and pointed it out on other forums, directing members away from the site.

There is no reason to get on top of me for just trying to make you guys aware of this, im just trying to help. I understand that is was meant as a joke, but there is always someone who cant take sarcasm. Please, i tried to say this once already, and I was flamed a few times by those who neglect to read the posts in the topic.

I like that some of you supported me, and it may have been a little bit of an exageration on my part, but please dont hold it against me like im spamming for attention. If any of you have read what I post in the Halo 3 forum and in here (kinda rare here, but i do read threads here often), you would understand i never try to get any attention, but to inform and help out others.

Sorry for bringing this up, do what you will with this thread.

You are serious, aren't you?

You know what, Bungie does not promote eliteism. In fact, if I am not mistaken, they despise the very idea of elitism, though it doesn't show very well (ranking system, anyone?).

I know the ranking system was intended to help people play with others their skill level, but oviously that isn't how it worked out.

READ THE REPLIES! For god's sake, this is what makes me so annoyed on these forums. People neglect to read the replies in a thread, even if it is a mere 2 pages long. All this does is lead to repeating and repeating and repeating of the same thing.

A common theme on the forums was folks donating their savings – lots of our players are kids, or don't have much money. These aren't the last, selfish slobs they're sometimes portrayed to be by the media. They are hard working, well-behaved, caring folks who will make sacrifices to do the right thing. We know that even the $20 we're asking for the T-Shirts is a lot for some, especially younger players – so stuff like this really knocks me on my ass.

That was just a year ago. Anyone else seem to recall how this community and the members of this site responded? If you ask me, any member who stepped forward and did something selfless and positive, they would be entitled to "act like they're better than other people..."

Don't forget the people who accused the selfless of kissing ass to "Bungie and the mods" for doing something for the community. Also, don't forget the people who act like they're entitled to be arrogant jerks, when they do nothing at all for the community. I won't name names, but I can think of a few members who fit this description, most of whom frequent the Flood.

Take this post I'm quoting. I agree with it, and I would be inclined to say something like, "Excellent point, Recon." I don't do it for two reasons: One, is that it's kinda pointless. It doesn't add to the discussion. Two, the main reason, is that I know at least one person will end up accusing me of kissing ass.

Why does this happen? I think it's because some people think that anyone who agrees with, or is a friend with a moderator/Bungie employee is an ass kisser/elitist.

Seriously though, anyone who actually thinks Bungie promotes elitism needs to be slapped. How can this be "used against us"? God forbid someone accuses B.net and it's populace of elitism. Uh oh! We're doomed now! Anything but that! Now we'll never be able to get more members!

Would you really care if someone said that? Chances are, you wouldn't take them seriously, and just ignore them.

We know that you realise it's a joke. And it is a joke.

So anyone "using it against us" is just stupid and doesn't know how to take a joke. Why should we be worried about someone saying ill of Bungie.net because of a joke on the sign up page? If anything it just makes them look stupid.

The fact of the matter is that it is a joke! Are you looking for it to be taken down because some stupid 12 year old doesn't understand sarcasm? There are some things we can't fix, and the stupid 12 year old is one of them.

-TGP-

PS. I have nothing against 12 year olds.

I didnt say once that it should be taken down, and im not commanding it to be. It is a joke to us, here we know it is a joke. Saying that we are elitist doesnt make a difference to US. But it does to possible members, which means hundreds of members a day could be turned away from joining this site by this.

You dont need to take it down, and if your not, then why discuss this any further? Stop dragging this conversation out just to beat me down more and more.

Note: by the time the members read this, they've already joined up.

So anyway, if you want it locked (and I can see no real purpose of it being open any more either) I'll lock it. But seriously, I don't see how that paragraph can be used to deter people from joining.
