Great constructive criticism. What made it boring? What are your suggestions for improvement?

You win the prize!

Anyone else who actually watched the video have an opinion on it?

lol I understand a whole lot of effort probably went into that video....but it sucked. There was no story, but the space battles were actually kind of cool. I've never seen that before.

I'm not sure if this was a series, but if it is it's got a fair looking intro. I was impressed with the space battle, you did a really good job at animating it. Also you timed your talking with the crew's almost perfectly unlike other films I've scene. The one downside was that when you were showing scenes like the spartans holding of the covenant or inside the covenant cruiser it got a little boring and lack of quality. But over all good job.

Hey Laird. Thanks for stopping by the Maw. I saw the newspost on HBO and I must say, it sounds amazing. I'm at school right now so I can't watch it. But when I get home I'll be sure to download it. Oh and nice to see you too Mothergoat, we don't get too many known members around here, ;)

Oh and just ignore Mr. Noob. Anyone who seriously supports halo2sucks.com can't be taken seriously...

At last, people with real opinions. I will take any feedback I can get, it will just help improve on the next part. I accept all criticism if it will in some way help better production values.:)

I thought it was really great Laird. I was a little put off by the voice quality, but that's not really your fault. I don't think anyone expects you to go buy production quality microphones :)

Apart from that though I thought the whole project was really quite impressive, and I'm looking forward to the next installments.

Just a word to everyone else who comments here. There's nothing wrong with not liking it, just explain why so it can be improved next time!

"It sucks." doesn't really help.

That was really cool, the battle scene reminded me of the ones in bsg and stargate which is cool, I really like the gun fire and stuff. Website was nice.
Crit:

the voice acting could have been better, but the covenent voices were pretty cool.
The human ships looks like their stuck together in some scenes, spacing them differently would help.
The human longswords looked really weird when they first appeared.
The initial missile looked too big compared to the ship, It would have been more realistic if it shot the missile and then zoomed in, but otherwise the missile was really cool.
The scale of the boarding craft/human battleships/longswords were waaaaaaay off....
Music needs to be louder.
On board fighting was abit iffy, needs more editing between shots to make it more dramtic, and it needs more movement.
When the ships first start firing their guns they suddenly all stop and it changes scene to the cov cruisers.... the firing should be continious...
Story needs work, ending was huh?
Needs more space battles
The explosions were ace, but I would have thought that the cov would withstand more shots, with their shields and all...

hope that helps

if you put more effort into story and made the action faster it would be really good

Listen, did you know what the story was in the first episode of Red vs. Blue, nope. This is the first episode, there is know way that you can tell if the story is good or bad at this point in time. It's like reading the first chapter in a book and saying it's good or bad, it just doesn't work.

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

Hm...I saw the trailer, and I enjoyed that...Downloading now...I'll post my opinions after I'm done watching.

Alright, I just finished watching it...and I must say, it was pretty good. The space battle was beautifully animated, and the movie flowed well. However, I have a few critscisms. The space battle...it was a good job, yet the attack lacked the fast-paced fury of battle. Sure, it was fun to watch, but it seemed as if it was a bunch of small potshots being thrown at the enemies, not full out war...maybe increase the intensity of battle. Nextly...the voiceovers. They were quite good, considering this is a fan movie, yet they seemed a little...unconcerned. As if their inevitable death had no effect on their emotions. And finally...is this going to be a series? The ending leaves a lot of things unanswerd; is the ship going to warn earth in time? What of the Spartan 3.8's? What is the Covenant planning to do in order to find the humans?

In the end, this was a good movie, ranking higher on the scales than most machinima I've seen...however, if you are capable of what I've just seen, I know you can make it even better with just a few simple tweaks. Hope that helps. :-)

Thank you all for the comment, and critic...this will go a long way to help me iron out the few mistakes there were. This is the first venture out, so it won't be perfect... but in time I hope to have something very worthwhile that you all can be proud of to watch.:)

Darkness: This is shaping up to be a trilogy series, Part two will answer those very questions your asking, part three will answer the last questions you asked. Each movie will progress with the 3d animation with each part of the series. I don't want to put all of the goodies upfront in on shot do I?:)

O_O

That was....wow.....

I'm speechless. That was freaking awesome. I didn't see why so many people had beef with the voice recordings. They were decent. Although yes, they could've been better. Just speak a little clearer, although the main issue was the background static. The use of Halo CE was superb. I especially liked the Covenant "bridge" though I think the actual bridge from the Campaign map Truth & Reconciliation would've done better or just as well.

I'm not going to lie, I am biased. I have a soft-spot for custom animations. But those were just awesome. I'm not sure what program you used. But if it's 3DS MAX you seem to have a solid handle on particle effects and explosions (meanwhile I quit trying to make a half-decent wireframe model :/). The story sounds good, but I hope you go into more detail as to who the human ships are trying to warn, and what exactly is going on other than a little hostile encounter.

Finally, the background, and opening title sequence was great, really makes it feel like you're in some remote region of space out there. The firing of the "nuke" was also very well animated. So in summary I give you mad props, keep up the good work!

Finally before the credits I nearly choked because other than voices, I thought you did all the animation and stuff just yourself! That would've been too much though.

Also nice to see a fellow Canadian Halo-fan(atic). Toronto represent ;)

P.S Mothergoat, it seems you're more famous than you thought :)

He's quite well-known around the Halo PC/CE community and over at halo.bungie.org for some incredible work he's done. Including fan music for Halo made from scratch (great stuff!), some *cough* interesting movies he's done on a very peculiar condition that afflicts players of Halo 2 Xbox LIVE, and most importantly (at least to this part of the community) the absolutely, hands-down, professional quality maps he's made for Halo CE. Just stop by his site...You won't be dissapointed.

P.S Can't wait for more MPD Mothergoat!

  • 09.13.2006 8:43 PM PDT

Haha, thanks jman. The third part is coming soon. As well as a new Halo-inspired tune AND CE map.

But I don't want to steer the topic away.

Good job on this first Unyielding, Laird. The effects were great. We've talked about improvement stuff, so there's no need to do it here. :)
