I’m surprised how important knowing C++ is. Most of the systems I’ve worked on, there has been explicit instructions not to use C++ due to its unreliability as well as ease to infiltrate. The main problem is that when the software compiles a program there are common traces that can be exploited. Plus redundancy and parallelism doesn’t work very smashingly. If you’re trying to analyze an interferogram recorded from a phased array system, the efficiency just isn’t there in C++. Well it looks like it’s time for a nap. Maybe I should visit Sharky the Shark dog’s crib.

For Carnage, Apply Within.

I have returned from the Untamed Lands. MOAP is dead.

I'm perfectly happy with just being a fan. I know that even though I'll never work with/for Bungie, I will always be part of the extended Bungie family.

And yes, I'm going for the cheesiest post of the year ;)

"I pledge to punch all switches, to never shoot where I could use grenades, to admit the existence of no level except Total Carnage, to never use caps lock as my "run" key, and to never, ever, leave a single BoB alive."

Im shooting for working in the game industry, even if its not Bungie I want to work on some aspect of it.

We'll settle this the old navy way; The first guy to die, LOSES! (President Thomas 'Tug' Benson)

I tell people the same thing about a 4 yr degree. I working on my BS in Computer Science. I got friends that were thinking of going to one of those 2 yr colleges and I tell them the same thing. The game insdustry is hard to break into and if you don't make you won't have much to fall back on. Me, on the other hand, I will still be open to a great many other jobs like Software development, and web design for example.

Good write up. It tells me that I did indeed make the right decision on choosing my Major.

No. Microsoft is situated mostly in Redmond. Bungie have their own studios in Kirkland.
By the way C++ is more widely used than C# but they're essentially the same. C# has some new built-in features.

TO THE NEIGHBOR'S!!!

I noticed Volt mentioned in your article KP. Volt/VMC recruited me as a game tester a few years ago. It was the best job ever! Even the games that sucked were worth working through to be on certain projects that to this day I am legally bound not to speak of. I currently work in IT for a large Seattle company, but who knows? Maybe i'll come knocking on Bungies door someday. It would be a dark day in Bungie's history im sure.

rember guys, knowing c++ and web design won't get you in. It is the peice of paper you get from college :<
and major ass kissing, once you get into ANY job.

From their, ass kiss your way up, and ALWAYS be a "student" in college, taking 3credit hours looks good, even if you got agood job, stay with at least 3 credit hours so you can be a "part time" student and it looks VERY good for getting jobs :)

There was a part where it was mentioned to program your own games, there's a great program, Game Maker, which allows you to do so for free. You can get it registered for around $25 and it will have more features. The website is www.gamemaker.nl, they also have a forum with examples and programming help.

...And I hope to get into bungie some day as a concept artist or any kind of artist, I've always been good at sketching and okay at modelling.

yeah that program is great!!
it has some good content and will help you get started on your way to making games of your own,,just a little bit from personal exp.
because I would absolutely love to work for bungie in the near future, but I dont think that is going to happen any time soon because I'm only 16 and still in school. but its something to aim for in the future. I love to work with computers and such mainly i like to work with code and configuration.

just to let you all know I'm writing from Australia and would it be possible to get a job at bungie and not have to move to the US to work?

I can understand why people would want 2 work for Bungie.. O' about 2 years ago, and doing Halo 3, but why would people want to work for them now, there probably Soo backed up because of halo 3 it would be Hell. And then when its over then what... I still think Halo is going to become a CSS, but we'll just have to see. And since im working on becoming a computer animator i would love working on the maps. But that’s only of Bungie wants to continue making so much money its crazy..IE Halo_Source.
