OK, old thread, I know, but I'll continue the debate:
Grunts, Elites, Jackals, Hunters... dumb as doorknobs, I reckon.
Here's my evidence:

Grunts
They're funny, but stupid (actually, they're pretty smart...compared to other Cov.). They stick together... prefect targets for grenades. They don't charge up plasma shots, and they run away from you.

Jackals
They charge up plasma shots at you to take down shields, but they do it to Marines as well. All that does is give them a nasty rash. It's more effective to just fire smaller shots, kill them faster. AND THE SHIELDS... with a sniper, pistol, or any effective weapon (like the butt of your gun, perhaps?) you can kill them like that. In case you're wondering, that small indent where they point their plasma pistol, that's where you fire. They recoil, then one shot to the head finishes them.

Elites
Actually, pretty smart (for a bot :-]). The best way to take them down is to surprise them. Come around a corner, and they go "arrr", "who who who" or "arrrrr who who who!!!" (I agree, REALLY bad translation) while pointing at you. Chuck a plasma grenade at them (or frag) or, charge up a plasma pistol, then shoot them in the head, or launch a rocket at them, or fire at them with the sniper. Too easy.

Hunters
Easiest of the lot. One shot to the back, dead. They just RUN at you. All you have to do is sidestep or jump, then one shot in the back. EASY!

I have only touched the surface. If you've noticed anything about any enemy (Cov., Marines, Flood), send it in!

P.S. If you've noticed anything about what I've said, feel free to correct me.

you really don't need to point this out....people kinda noticed it while they were playing the game.

what was the point in this again, heres some of my advice: Play the game on Legendary!

Grunts: Used as cannon fodder....they seem crap but they get in your way.

Jackals: Great Snipers, a pain on legendary, always catch you in the weak spot.

Elites: While the Grunts are in your way these guys make life harder, always forcing you into cover or tight corners.

Hunters: let me ask you something....if you dont have a pistol or sniper rifle, what do you use instead when faced on legendary!

next time you make a post like that.....please make it so it has a point to it.

back away when they charge, melee to the face once in range, sidestep, melee in the back after they pass. Repeat. The dance steps are a little more complicated when there's two of them but it's still easy. You just have to remember where the other one is and how long it's been since the last time he fired.

Or 2-3 clips of needler rounds will do it. It's amazing how effective they are. Nobody respects the needler. I find that sad. The needler is a great weapon. You just have to know when and how to use it, like any other weapon in Halo.

The needler is the best wepon to use against elites, aside from the sniper, and arguably the rocket launcher. You can take out a horde of elites and grunts with one clip.

once you learn how the tracking works in the needer, it is an excellent weapon (though still not my first choice). of course, you also learn how to easily avoid it, so that's where it goes back to being uneffective. i suppose the best use (in mp) would be to fire it into a group of guys fighting, to finish off the survivors and get a few kills.
