Here's the thing about a H2V demo:
If it's made for XP, then every sensible blue-blooded Halo-playing PC owner will download it. This will create unbelievable hype and anticipation for the full version that would be released on Vista. It's a great marketing deal for Microsoft: release a demo for an existing OS, and make people want to buy the new OS, Vista, for H2.
One problem: H2 is being made to run on Vista, not XP. That means to make a simple demo for XP, the H2 Vista team has to port the game into XP, which it isn't being made to run on. Major compatibility issues abound.
If it's made for Vista, then the H2V team has less code re-working to do to create a demo, as opposed to if they made it for XP.
A few problems: No one will buy Vista just to play a demo. That would be the most expensive demo ever.
Second, if a H2V demo was made, it would be redundent to get it because H2 is supposed to be Vista's launch title. In other words, why download the demo of H2 when the full version is available at the same time?
