Hey guys... I hate to start another 'game has closed down' thread, but I gotta do it. I did run a search and saw pages upon pages of results, but nothing specific to my problem. Here's the deal...

I'm connected through ethernet cable to my router. This router is a linksys which has worked pretty solidly over the past couple of years. It feeds a wireless signal downstairs to my brother's laptop. There are no latency problems sharing the internet as it is roger's fastest cable service (extreme). However, recently my brother picked up a copy of Halo PC and we've been trying to frag alongside each other. Once we both get into the same server, after 5-15 minutes (roughly) of (great) gameplay, we both get the dreaded "game has closed down" message, even though I have verified that the server is still running and everyone elses score is intact.

When we're playing on different servers, we can both play to our hearts content without any lag issues or weird game closedowns. We have both bought ligitimate copies of Halo and have entered our respective cd-keys.

What I don't understand is why it works flawlessly for several minutes before closing down...

Can anyone shed some light so we can tear it up together without being booted?

My friend and I used to use a router to play Halo online, except he used a cable connection for his laptiop. We never had a problem so It's most likely the wireless. Wireless sucks, especially for high traffic programs such as games.

Wireless is L33T, cables are crazy, wireless owns! Oh and, try playing on lan, or its because you guys are sharing the internet, so one gets more and the other gets less packets, so you dont have enough packets to play, and trust me, you do not want a cable through your attic, and try playing on someone elses server, with both of you in, if that doesen't work, try lan. Hope i helped.

Some of us would love to have wirelesss, but it is not for our needs. I would use wireless if the signal could go through the plumbing in my wall, AND allow me to upload my videos without them corrupting. Wireless is just as good as wired for mst things, but not all.

Thanks for the quick replies, guys.

We've tried joining different internet servers together and always the same frustrating result. LAN works fine but 1v1 isn't really our thing, and I seriously doubt we could host a game with a decent number of players.

We will try it with a wired connecttion and see what happens, but even then, running an RJ45 cable from the 2nd floor to the basement for the sole purpose of playing multiplayer together is a bit of a stretch. But at least then we would KNOW what the problem is..

Could it possibly be a port-forwarding issue?
Dynamic/Static IP issue? Is it possible both my brother and I have identical (or very similar) IPs and that when the server recognizes this it boots us out?

I realize I'm reaching here but the logistics of this problem really bother me. Even if it's impossible for us to play online together...I would really like to know why.

You did buy 2 separate copies of Halo right?

Don't drink to excess– You might shoot at tax-collectors... and miss

Computer: Power Mac G5 CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2) Number Of CPUs: 2 CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 1.25 GB Bus Speed: 900 MHz

ATi Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition

Could someone, (neighbor, etc.) be using your wireless connection and stealing bandwidth? Check your router software to see if someone else is on your network.

If you can run a wire. Set security to keep others off your wireless service.

I WISH I didn't have wireless...linksys sucks.

Since you are on the same network, did you mess up anything with linksys's port forwader? That can cause problems in many games, to the extent that some don't even work. I know for a fact that halo does work though, and so perhaps check your ports.

I would suggest best that instead of sharing internet y dont u all buy a separate net.Anyways ping does not depend much on the connection speed. It moreover depends on the distance from the server. So the best option is to buy a separate connection and tell ur bro to buy his own,for his laptop. My clan mane is[XD] and my name [XD]Hitm@n
