First off, it's not out, I still under development. And there is not price on it yet. For Vista itself, it's $99.95 to upgrade from XP to Vista or $199 for the non-upgrade.

I Googled the Vista price and here is The Article I got it from.

E hem.

Scroll down to my post. I don't feel like retyping everything.

Oh, and Carnage? I wouldn't trust news from anyone other than Microsoft. Not even from PC Mag or something, they're all media and therefore susceptible to Rumor. Especially not from something found via a Google search. No offense meant, but it's just not reliable.

Either way, from what I hear, the price is for an upgrade from a VERSION of Vista to another, not from XP to Vista.

EDIT: Ah, what the hell. Copy and paste it is:

Windows Vista, the next iteration of the Windows Operating System, is a new OS restructured from the base code upwards, instead of being built on the aging XP architecture as previous OSs used to do.

It's going to come in seven flavors, ranging from the basic to the Ultimate. Vista will require a DX9 compatible or DX10 graphics card in order to run Aero, which is the sleek new "glassy" interface it'll utilize. Aero will be included on all versions except the most basic version (home basic). In other words, Aero will be avalible on Home Premium, all business and enterprise versions, and of course on Ultimate.

Now, as for the Vista Capable sticker...DON'T believe that. It's total bull-blam!-. What that means is that you can at least run the most basic version of Vista, the Home Basic edition, the one that lacks the Aero interface. What you want to do is check up the specs of the actual computer against the listed compatible processors and GPUs for Ultimate Edition.

A Release Candidate (read: beta 3) version is currently avalible to download only to a select few who have previously signed up for the Beta Testing program. I've already secured my own copy and CD key, and will probably test it out on an old computer.

I would NOT recommend downloading and installing the RC1 on your primary computer, as it is still a "beta," albeit polished and devoid of nearly all the known bugs. It is more or less another beta and should be treated as such. Either way, the beta has an expiration date (set on my copy of Vista as June 1 2007) which will basically force you to downgrade to your previous OS, always a messy operation imho.

We don't have a release date yet. The game is still under intense development and it's way too early to give a credible date. We ourselves don't even have a rock solid shelf date. There are a few internal projected time windows, but nothing worth publicizing.

As soon as we have something solid enough, to the point where we can be 4000% sure that we'll meet the date, you'll be the first to know. As of right now, it's all up in the air.

Responding to this quote in another thread since this forum software basically muzzles anyone trying to start a new thread or respond freely.

Halo 2 is coming out on Vista so you get the best experience possible. Do you want a kick-ass full featured improved Halo 2, or do you want a stripped down bad graphics blue walled half assed XP port?
If that were true, then how come the screen prints I just got done looking at look like a boatload of crap. My Halo PC on an ATI Radeon X1600 Pro look better than those screen prints.

Don't give me that line about "ooohh, Vista is going to give you such a better gaming experience"... It won't do anything particularly noteworthy that Windows XP cannot currently do.

It is nothing more than Microsoft punching our bank cards for some additional cash. I challenge any of you to prove it to me otherwise.

As for the release dates, well, Lord only knows what is taking you folks at Bungie so long to get a two (plus) year old game to market for us loyal PC users. I would love to blame it on the MS marketing people who are probably breathing down your necks more than you can stand, but at this point I would even question that logic.
