Okay, I have made the switch from Internet Explorer Release Candidate One to Firefox today because the Fox uses less resources, and so far I have been unimpressed and even disappointed. I am satisfied by the lesser amount of RAM the browser takes, but it's disadvantages outweigh it's functionality and customizablity. I have the newest release, 1.5.07 or something, and the site layout of Bungie.Net is not nearly the same.

Differences:

* The "Chars Left" indicator on the bottom of the post menu is no longer functional.

* The text seems somewhat 'pixelated', meaning it is larger than what is is supposed to be, and has jagged edges, it is no longer 'smooth' and they are unusually spaced.

* The 'bar' that the bottom navigation bar rides on stretches and loses detail and only a black background remains until it reaches the bottom of the page.

* The buttons below a user's post are on the opposite side, and the background to them seems separated.

* The search function at the top is sometimes out of place.

* My spell checking program no longer functions.

Keep in mind I did fiddle with the Options and it made a bit of a difference, but not quite enough.

Why does the site have so many differences between the 'Fox and Internet Explorer?

Differences, not problems. I prefer FireFox over Internet Explorer, even though the thing on the side doesn't go all the way down or because the text looks a tiny bit different (I like the different look better).

So yeah, just differences. Dunno why there are so many, though.

It is somewhat annoying, though. I will likely switch back. Granted, Firefox IS an excellent browser, just doesn't do it for me.

Hmm, I contradicted myself (or at least, in a fashion), I listed them as differences then called them problems at the end... I will correct that.

Still, I do not understand. Is the site just not as compatible?

Also, the Relpy and PM buttons below each post are on the left in FireFox as opposed to the right in Explorer.

I prefer Firefox becasue witht he Fasterfox addon it makes internet browsing much faster then with IE. plus I also have the IE emulator on for some sites as firefox is not able to display WMV files in browser, so I switch it to IE and it's fine. Beats the hell outta downloading everything.

Well surely there shouldn't be this many differences, I don't know.

I'd say the worst things would be the text (it hurts my eyes, yes that bad), and the Character indicator. The Character indicator not working isn't exaclty a problem, as most of the time the limit is not nearly reached or even approached. But it was intended to work, and it doesn't.

These differences wouldn't be so much of a problem if people weren't making 'The Switch' as much and so many people used the 'Fox.

Mind posting those? I would be most greatful, as would other 'Fox users.

Also one of the Moderators making a thread with a list of Spell-Checking programs for different browsers, fixes, plug-ins, etc. would help.

I owe you one. Thank you very much.

However, I may switch back anyway. We will see how much of a difference it makes.

But, my question still remains, why the differences?

The difference is for copy right purposes. It has to be a minimum of 30% different from IE and other internet browsers to not be considered copyright. I thinks thats what the law is.

But after Downloading the IE tab addon close all firefox browsers then open it again > go to tools > IE tab options > Add(url is the one you are currently on) > Apply > OK > refresh.

After that bungie will look like IE in the Firefox Browser.

Also remember that the site is designed for IE and firefox displays it differently. I love the new one (i am beta testing 2.0 right now) The spell check is so sweet and it displays alot faster now. i do use the fasterfox and it did work but using beta add ons are limited right now.

Firefox is better generally (if you want specific reasons, I can list them), but think about it, why would Bungie look better on another browser other than Microsoft's own [crappy] browser?

Besides, you can just use the IE tab thing that I've never used but I should.

For Carnage, Apply Within.

I have returned from the Untamed Lands. MOAP is dead.

One reason I use Firefox and not IE is because IE is so transparent it's unreadable. I installed the Vista Transformation Pack and now I can see right through the browser.

Firefox is generally much faster on many sites compared to IE, but not on b.net. I got rid of Firefox after I downloaded IE 7 Beta 3 (Tabbed browsing on IE is great).

I actually talked directlly with one of the devs for Internet Explorer 7. I told him that a spell checking system integrated in IE 7 would be most usefull. He said "...a fair sum of people have been requesting such a thing. We are looking into it." This either means they are indeed working on it or he told me to go away. We will see, won't we?

Well... they haven't implemented one in the RC1 for Vista version... so maybe it will be in the IE7 SP2 or IE8?

You can start by reading this link.

I'd also like to add that Firefox is compliant with current W3C standards and is constantly being updated to fix security flaws.

And last, but certainly not least, tabbed browsing. That's a give-away.
