I'de wanna see a Steam like system that keeps H2 updated and allows you to browse and DL custom content.

Stop posting these unnecessary threads about H2 Vista, it's spam. Go post it in the H2 Vista Discussion thread Iggwilv posted.

Halo automatically updates *though patches are few and very, very far between*, and it would be impossible to browse custom content. Don't ask why, it just wont work.

PS, steam blows my pipes. *well, i just hate it how everyone yells out STEAM! WE MUST HAVE STEAM! STEAM IS GOD! ALL BOW DOWN TO STEAM! STEAM *blah blah blam blah blah suxorz blah blah can blow my blah blam blah*

Ah, but halo doesnt update does it? Theres been many problems with it, most had to do a manual patch of 6 or 7, cant remember which. Add to that, theres actually only been a couple of patches, the rest have just been security fixes.

Why isnt it possible to browse custom content? Steam does it to an extent. And I have to say, I hated steam when it came out. it was rank. It smelled. But it has gotten better. A few examples:

Once you have bought and registered a game on it (via online or a dvd) you have that for life. Its on your account, and if anything happens to the CD/DVD (like it did mine) you can simply download it via steam. Very handy actually.

Your tied to that account. A few good reasons for this. First off, it helps piracy. True, there are ways round it, but its more difficult.

Also, being tied to that account makes you in big trouble if caught cheating. Having a few games on there makes having the whole account banned rather a big deterrent.

Reasons why it aint so good:

It doesnt wait for wireless connections, so it always complains about not being able to connect when i startup.

If everyone had things like steam, youd have loads of things starting up when you boot, or have to start them to play a game.

But I still like it though, its come in handy. I wouldnt be suprised if Anywhere live (or live anywhere? whats it called again?) does much the same thing. We know that halo2V is going to have live integrated, so we shall wait and see.

It would eliminate all the lost CD key topics for a start.

the manual update was due to a problem with the updater, and thus you can not update with an updater that can not update *ps, i believe it was 1.05*

Being tied to an account does not deter as many people as you think it would. Look at Xbox live and halo 2. That was a very large mess.

Sure dling a new cd/dvd is nice, but people would probably figure out how to pirate that. I don't know exactly how steam works, but if you dl the image, then what prevents someone from pirating that image, and giving the cd/dvds away for free?

How i belive that custom content would not work is that people would make lame mods and such of maps, and fill up the lists with them. There would be crappy maps that you would have to wade through just to find one good one *ie the box sword map/ rocket box map example would be the crap that you need to wade through to find a map like no remorse*. Then there would be the 11 year old pre-puberty idiots that would upload inappropriate things... bad, bad things.

and before any one suggests it again:
NO CUSTOM EMBLEMS! *for the reason just stated at the end of the previous paragraph.*

ps, people will still post "lost cd key" posts, just to go forage for more keys when they get banned.

Steam. The only problem I have with that service is this:

Why the fsck do you have to get every single Steam-powered game ready if you're going to be playing only one?

Either way, Steam's not coming to H2PC, the only way it may is if Microsoft creates its own competing service.

Well he suggested a Steam-like system, not the actual Valve online service itself.

But I don't think it'll happen. Just because it works well for one company/game/product doesn't mean it will work for others!

No, steam validates everytime you connect to it. And you have to connect to play a game.

Yes, it has been cracked, but its difficult.

And not every mod gets on a list, only the good working ones without bugs that are submitted.
