Make this place a pay site. 1¢ a year, credit card only. A credit card number will then be attached to a profile, and that credit card would not be able to be used to create another profile. To spam, a person would have to get a new credit card whenever they get blacklisted...

Obviously that would mean a lot of people will stop coming, and I'm alright with that.

I hate you.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;

Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

But what about people that can't get a credit card? Wouldn't this be a problem for younger people?

Either get permission from a parent (which would be required to play the most current games offered by Bungie anyway), or stop coming.

Of course, there could be a "Regular" and "Premium" registration where you would have to pay to get the full functionality of the site. The "Premium" package would be just like everybody has now, and the "Regular" could be set up so that "Regular" members cannot access groups, can only create 1 thread a day and the time between posts would be increased (instead of 30 seconds [or is it a minute?] between posts given to the "Premium" members, it would be 5 minutes).

That would make it so people that are not allowed to use their parent's credit card can still take part of the main forums (even though it is limited). And of course, there wouldn't be any visible difference between a "Regular" and "Premium" member...

Are you alright? Yeah, that would certainly help with the spamming and flaming, but it would really decrease the amounts of activity.

This was the edit of my previous post, but people replied when I was typing it so I decided to make it a new post:

Of course, looking at your avatar, I also think people that have their gamertag linked would be able to be a "Premium" member. And the 1¢ per year wouldn't actually be necessary, just the credit card. I just thought Bungie would like to get their moderators some more swag... ;-)

PayPal has a verification system that links your bank account to your paypal account. I'm not sure how it works, since I have not done it, but I think you could use this system as an alternative to a credit card. That's assuming, of course, the person has a bank account.

It's not the part where less people come that I don't like. It's more of the fact that it discriminates against people under 17 or 18. Like you said, they could get their parent's permission. But some parents are wary of giving out financial information. Also, I just think that there should be a way for people of any age to join.

Overall, though, I like the idea of making accounts more... valuable. It's just that in my opinion, there has to be a way to make it available to all people. I just haven't thought of it yet. >.>

@trueunderdog

Chapter

Narwhallace Smithington: Gone, but not forgotten. Never approve of anything lil guy. <3
Furious George: The new -blam!-

I really like the credit card idea. It would reduce the number of spammers (which are mostly a younger crowd). There'd be less traffic but then maybe worthwhile threads wouldn't be pushed down as easily as they are.

I don't think any of this should be put it. It cuts off too many people. Makes this place to exclusive and I think it would ultimatley do worse.

I'm pretty sure that was the point of it. Bungie.net exists as a site for People who play and enjoy Bungie games and enjoy being with people who feel the same way. That is it's purpose.

Please remember that this is the way it used to be, before Bungie was aquired by Microsoft. The system used to be in effect.

Also, to those people that were arguing wheather if you acted bad here, would you get blacklisted from Halo 2, that would not happen. Bungie.net and Halo 2 are different...juristictions (for lack of a better word) Xbox Live deals with cheaters there, and the Moderators on Bungie.net deal with trouble makers here. Just because the accounts are/could be linked, does not mean that punishment for using one aspect would flood over into the other.

The whole point is to make people responsible for their actions. If they would have to buy another game of Halo 3 to register, then they wouldn't flame and call each other names as much, for fear of losing their account....for good.

Also, since Halo, Halo 2, and all the other Bungie games are already out, I'm not saying that you would scan your bar-code or anything. If this system would be put into use, all current accounts would be "Grandfathered" and you would not require a Bungie Serial Number to keep it.

If this system would be put into effect, it would mean that all [/u]future[/u] accounts would require a Bungie.net serial number.

Any more questions?

I definately think so. You shouldn't be on if you don't know their games. That's like joining IMDb when you hate movies.

Before Bungie appealed to such a wide audience too.

How did Recon get in on this and where did JaF's post go. Did you delete it JaF? C'mon JaF, you know you love me!

That is unless you are an admited cheater with a linked GT that contains sufficient proof. Then you do get a time out from both. I beleive both to be permanent.

Look at you! I can't stay mad at you. Just look at him people.
Or look at recon, that old geezer. I don't know what he has to do with anything, but look at him anyway.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind a game register option. Perhaps the ability to create a group and other extra's for a "registered member" and just the ability to post on the forum with a "regular account".

After thinking about this idea for a while, I seem to like it a bit more. It would be nice to make members accountable for their actions.

But I still have two main concerns, and I wonder if anyone has anything to say about them.

First, what about a house where, say, two brothers share one copy of the game, but they both wanted to join B.net?

Second, what about people who bought used games, such as an old rental? If the code for that game had been used by one of the people who used it before, then it couldn't be used again. But shouldn't the new owner have every right to join this site too?
