Osmosis!

I'm in some confusion over the phrase 'Halo 2 for Vista.' I had thought that that was the name of the game. But now I'm wondering if Vista is a type of Windows, like XP or Pro or 91 or 95 or 2000. Help me out?

So Vista is a type of compy? And it's a downloadable upgrade of XP? You can get it from the internet? And it's not out yet, but it'll cost to download it?

I notice you have 'dont flame' in your sig. I can bet you money, if you were in any other part the forum, youd be toasty by now.

If you wont read the links people provide, heres the simple version (whats already been said).

Vista will be a brand new operating system for the PC. Its due out next year-ish, and will replace XP and the rest, for those that can afford.

No its not downloadable, no its not an addon, its new from the ground up.

Vista is just like Windows XP. When I say that, I mean just like Windows XP, you have to go out in stores and buy a copy. It's Microsoft's newest operating system which is coming out next year.

I love how people are complaining about having to upgrade everything to run Vista and/or Halo 2 PC....

Get real... you honestly expect to run all the latest software and games on the same computers you use now, that can barely run Halo to begin with?

Hell, my comp can run all the latest games on High+, but I'm still going to upgrade for Vista and Halo 2. End of story, quit yer *****in'.

Vista is a completely NEW operating system, unlike XP, which was just a rebuild of 2000, which was a rebuid of NT (says so at startup, lol) which was, basicallay, a rebuild of something else. Dunno what tho. 95? 3.1? DOS?

Think of it like this:

The basis of all the modern Windows OS's is NT, right?

So you have

........................................ NT....................
....................|........................................ ...|........
......Original stuff.....................................Vista
.......3.1
......|
.....95........
......|
.....98.......
.......|
..........2000
......|.............|
......|..........2000ME
...XP

Does that make sense? Basically everything past 95 was just a bandaid... then a bandaid on top of a bandaid on top of a bandaid. MS finally realized that they can't do that anymore, so they went all the way back to the original NT code, and started Vista - From the gound (NT) up.

actually there were 2 diffrent kernels for awhile. It started with *or before* win 95 and NT. the 95 kernel stopped with windows ME, and xp is built off of the NT kernel.

he is right though, the NT kernal is different than the 9x kernal. 2000 is based off the NT kernal as was XP.

Vista? You wanna know what Vista is? Microsoft's bastard child, and Windows XP's long lost brother.

To tell you the truth, it's gonna be the bugged equivalent of Windows ME. 98 SE would be better.

Wait a minute. Explain to me please how having a kickass PC is a BAD thing.

Oh, and as for the thread starter's question, I present the Vista wiki entry.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.

No problem, Vista is a new Microsoft version for PC, and Halo 2 will be launched for that version.

thats not a nice thing to say...

have you even seen vista? or are you blindly walking into a hallway of pain and flame?

I have the Vista Beta 2 *soon to be RC1* and I can tell you with experiance; It is no ME. Its a main course of kick arse with a side of boo ya and a tea bag for desert. I have yet to crash it, and I have tried my best. Most programs run on it without modification, a few needed a new version, and only a cuple are not supported.

Widow, you have been blinded by your ignorace and stupidity. Windows 98 is unsupported and outdated. It can not run today's programs, and will never be supported again after Vista is released.

Lol. I wasnt comparing Windows 98 to Vista. I was simply saying that Vista will end up being pretty buggy like ME was at first release. I would stick to XP until they come out with some service packs.

Hm. I would try the RC1 before passing judgement on how buggy the OS may be.
