I was just thinking....Earth must have something on that the covinant really really really want beause other wise they would just destroy the planet straight away but by the looks of the game they launch an invasion force! Possibly Earth holds a hidden forerunner weapon that the covinant are afraid of so are trying to get hold of it before the humans find out?
Whats every ones thoughts?

Maybe but another reason could be because the Covenant know Earth is the homeworld. The Covenant are thirsty for blood and honour, the more humans they kill in ground combat the more honour they get back home.

Well, hopefully it wont have anything to do with the pyramids. It's just getting lame at how practically all sci-fi games that are based on earth have to have somthing to do with them.

Not entirely so, in the e3 2003 demo there is a downed covenent ship. If that ship were to contain a high prophet then that would be why they have not glassed that part of the planet yet.

I don't think they're after anything Forerunner, I think they're after something really special that we have. Has anyone wondered how they found Earth anyway? I've read the book trilogy but didn't pick up any hints as to how they found us. Is Ackerson a traitor do you think? Furthermore from the situation at Earth on what I've seen of the demos, we're pretty screwed and it looks like theres no way we can win and though this may upset some of you I feel that no matter how good he is, Master Cheif cannot make a difference to the overall situation on Earth. Then on the FAQ it states MC takes the fight to the Covenant, how is this possible when the situation on Earth is so grim, what could possibly give him a chance to do such a thing? There has to be something very special about Earth, very special indeed.
Also I doubt that the Covenant would risk sending any Covenant ships with High Prophets anywhere near Earth, low prophets maybe but not high. They didn't send a High Prophet to the Halo so I doubt Earth, the High ones must all stay on the Covenant Homeworld.

Maybe earth isn't that far away from the covenant home world, even though, the covenant don't really have one. Because if the covenant are a race of multiple species, then surly they're from multiple planets.

Well first of all with the Covenant attacking the ground with troops. There were many occasions in which the Covenant landed ground forces. Generally it is whenever their ships are about to blow(and they still want human blood), when they want something of the Forerunner, or if they are going for their over inflated sense of honor. Then there is the case in which they are still fighting in space, but want to double the pleasure in killing us by sending down their ground troops.

As for how they found us....I think we did it. Not in 2552, not in 2525 when we first met them, but thirty years ago from our time. That's right, our time. Ever heard of Voyager 1 and 2 or the Mariner 10 satellites? Well on those craft are these golden plates. On them show humans and guess what, the coordinates to Earth in relation to several pulsars. Now I understand that by time the Covenant would actually find them that we would kinda screwed anyways....because in 2552 they will still be pretty close.

But remember those asteroids that would go into slipspace without reason and come out again? Yeah. My theory is one of those satellites went into slispace by accident, travelled many light years, and ended up near some Covenant ship that took it in and they found out where we originated from. Giving them reason to come to Earth, without following us, and attacking the Sol system with ships and ground troops.

If you actually read 'The Covenant Hierarchy' and all three of the Halo books as well as playing the game you answer almost all of your own questions. The covenant want to destroy the human homeworld but because they didn't instantly glass it from space it shows forerunner technology is present (stated in 'The Covenant Hierarchy'). Also, 343 Guilty Spark survived Halo, if you watch through the credits it shows him flying away into space, and in my opinion he is how the covenant found Earth. He has knowledge of our location and lifestyle from the Pillar of Autumn and has a grudge against the MC. Also, I think the Flood made it to Earth with the help of Sargeant Johnson who was infected while on Halo but unable to be mutated because of previous plasma damaging his brainwaves.

so he inadvertantly carried the flood bacteria (or virus or whatever they are) to earth, effectively causing an epidemic that will turn everybody into the flood?

How the covenant found earth? because Bungie thought it be pretty cool to have earth based missions.

Why the covenant don't glass earth? Because that pretty much ends the game.

if you pepole payed attention to the book one bit, you would know that the covies found a rock in the measuem at Cote de Azur (or something) the rock was a star map left by who? oh of course! our good olf freinds the forerunner! they partialy scanned the rock but it was disrupted by MC planting his boot in their ass. then when cortana showed cheif what the covenant star map was, it looked exactaly like that part of the stone. so um. DUH.

i think the flood that are apparantly in halo 2 are from the other halo ring that comes into play not johnson (he's too cool to die by crud like the flood). i still think someones betrayed earth to the covenant. guilty spark has nothing to do with covenant (he ordered sentinels to kill them and blames them for releasing the flood) furthermore we can't be forerunner. the reason guilty spark thinks MC is forerunner is because of his armor which we stole the ideas from the covenant and they stole in turn from the forerunner and thus the resemblance to the old designs. (i say old as spark suggests u upgrade to a class 12 in the first game).
if the forerunner do have a tie in to humanity they are probably the 'missing link' to our rapid evolution (in retrospect). if we we're forerunner and the covenant worship them as gods, wouldn't they praise us rather than attempt to wipe humanity out.

Mate they couldnt be the missing link because that would mean they are primitave apes.
I cant see bungie going down a "planet of the apes" path. Besides the missing link in our evolution would date back to about 200 000 years ago, not the millions of years ago that the forerunners were actually meant to have been around.

i don't mean missing link as in bigfoot i meant they gave us abit of a kickstart, introduced fire maybe. something like a historical/religious connection that we can't remember as a race as it isn't recorded

i don't think the luminous key prophet is a high prophet, probably a mid rank. like the red elite. and doesn't the ship that MC steals come into the system after Halo is destroyed?

[b]Hey Zamamee, the Forunners probably come and save Earth.

Possibly but besides their artifacts i think the forerunner are long gone. if you want my reason for Earth's salvation i think the Flood infect Covenant space causing Earth to go on hold. MC goes to covenat space in the hope of putting the fight to the Covenant and finds out about the flood. this results in an allaince between man and covenant to wipe out the flood. they do, peace between races (until maybe halo3, keep it a loose peace) end of story, though of course there will be lots more than that. i just feel its a story that explains how the earth isn't beaten, the war ends and how the flood could be involved after the first. (though if it we're up to me the flood would have not made it to halo2)

I heard that 343gs (the monitor) will be making a second apperance. Maybe the covenant have some beef with 343gs cuz he was the guy in charge of guarding the flood and he let captain keyes and some marines into the forerunner. Or maybe the covenant want to get back at human for letting the flood loose but it doesnt make sense because the humans let the flood loose but killed the entire flood race.neutralize adadptive paracitic life form: complete

i don't think there we're any covenant left after Halo to report about guilty spark to others so he remains unknown to them. the covenant we're the ones who fist released the flood. if there was a flood epidemic in the galaxy i doubt humans would be on the top of covenant priorities.
