I was just thinking this question to myself: What makes a good community? I think a community is a group of people who come together, as one, to talk and discuss whatever they have on their minds. Communities should be about the people; what they do, say, think, feel etc. A community should be a well-structured, well supportive group of people able to express their views and opinions on matters concerning them and others, in a way that does not offend or harm others. People should have their free speech, but not to the extent that that speech could cause offense or harm to another person(s). I think we should respect and give credit to others, regardless if they are new, old, black, white, or of a different religious background.
Why am I saying this? Personally because I believe we could be a bit more caring, supportive, and loving towards one other. You never know, doing just that might make your Bungie.net experience(and your non-Bungie.net experience) that bit better.

Just a thought....

I agree about everything you feel a community should be.

A community should also be a place where each member feels valued and has as much opportunity as any other to make a difference. Furthermore, a community should allow people ample opportunity to develop and express their opinions free of coercion, ridicule or bigotry. Finally, a community should strive to promote tolerance and respect by fostering an open and honest dialgue between all members regardless of power; real or imagined.

Wait! I think I perceive a problem. LOL.

Enjoy these forums mate.

When you can make an Original Post without a "Please don't Flame me" disclaimer. Granted, we don't have that in here that much, but I see it more often than I should.

I've only been here for 6 months (I think) and over those 6 months I have made a lot of Bungie.net friends, improved my knowledge of the game a considerable amount, and I feel like I'm part of an Online Community for the very first time.

I've never been a fan of Forums that much in the past. The only one I ever got into was TvTome.com (if anyone knows what that is.) And I can tell you- it's nothing like this.

On this site, I feel like we're a family. Seriously, I know it's a Forum, but everyone is so unique. I mean, we have people who you see and interact with and partake in laughter. We have volunteers who watch over us- in their own "Special" way (from dmbfan's sarcasm to Recon's gentleness, to Yoozel always being drunk, to 'Shishka the terrible')

Seriously, sometimes I just like to sit back and take it all in. Watch you guys post and laugh and learn at the same time. And the best part? It's so easy to be accepted here (well, The Flood isn't as easy.......but it's The Flood LOL). There are so many people willing to help you, and that's what makes us great.

But........there are some things that aren't so great. A lot of the time, I see too much Flaming. Like I stated earlier, too many Posts end with "Please don't flame me." That needs to change, and fast. People shouldn't be worried about Flames and put-downs. That's not why we're here.

I could go on for another 1000 characters about how great (and sometimes weird) this site is, but that will be saved for another time. I will say this:

For what it's worth, Bungie.net is one Hell of a fine Community

=)

The Joyeuse IP Formula

A good community? A small one.
The Frag Dolls' fourm, for example hardly has any locked threads. They have member since, picture posting privlages, costom avatars, and NO SPAMMING! People there use their privlages properly with no fuss. And (OMG for me) no sexism! If a girl is here they get harassed. (You might not see it, but it's there)
They (FD community) behave wonderfully. Here, some people think they rule the other members because of something so stupid: (beating H2 on legendary, member since, H2 rank ect)

People need to be kind, respect others, use their privlages properly ect.
That's what makes a good community.

One that doesn't have people with 50 accounts telling themselves, "Good Idea!" or "OMFG Bungie should totally do that!"

In a nutshell, people need to grow up. There's a difference when some "forum-friends" (for lack of a better word) joke around and when someone's being spiteful.

All a good community needs is cheap beer and women.

That's my three cents.

Never underestimate the community-gathering potential of really well-made salsa.

The salsa is nothing without the chips.

I'm tempted to take the 4-5 hour drive all the way to McKinney, Recon, if you have salsa and chips. Lawl
