Have you updated to the latest version of Halo? They released a fix for SP2 related problems, although I hear it didn't fix much. It's worth a try though. Join a multiplayer game on the Internet and it will automatically download any updates. If you can't even start the game, go download the patch manually from Microsoft's website.

Yes I've tryed the patch and also tryed to fresh in stall halo after I installed new drivers for my sound and video but nothing has worked...when I try the strings.dll and binkw32.dll and all I get is a corrupted Halo.exe when I apply the binkw32.dll. I have even downloaded and installed a new beta version driver for my video card that was supposed to work better for windows xp but so far no luck. I try to keep Windows and all my drivers up todate I have even up dated my motherboards firmware to see if maybe that was the problem and still no luck.

The only other fix I've heard of is to kill as many running processes/services as you can before playing Halo, as mentioned in this thread. This would make a sensible solution, as your first post claims you had Halo working for a time by disabling a certain auto-startup line in msconfig. I'd disable every startup item, restart, try Halo, and see if it works. If Halo works, then gradually add startup items back into your configuration until the problem reoccurs. You then know what program to get rid of or to shut down before playing Halo. It may take some work, but at this point it seems necessary.

Well I finaly took the time to redo the msconfig thing and it wasn't my start up programs causing the problems it was one of my services...PLUG N PLAY can you belive it so no if I disable it to play I can't get sound connect to the net...or use my game controllers what is wrong with my plug and play service....halo for PC runs fine on my laptop a bit laggy but runs fine and I have pretty much the same stuff loaded on it that I do on my big pc only diff is the amount of ram and Video card...and its all older and slower and lower on my laptop then on my big machine...and its not just halo its tomb raider AOD wont play and Dxdiag crashes when it runs the diagonstics on direct input8 .....and I have the latest version of direct x.....if I disable plugnplay I can get through the Dxdiag with out problems. what is wrong with my system and who do I need to contact microsoft? my motherboard manufacture??
