I've always considered Iceman Assassin's posts to be troll-like in nature. Oh well.

How so? I don't flame or link people to shock sites.
That's what spammers do (high volume/low content), not Trolls (consider them the "spice" of Bungie.net, just adds a little flavor). I know it's just semantics, but that's what some of us are trying to get across...

I'm slowly starting to understand.

One question: why is the phrase "Don't feed the Trolls" thrown around here so much? Makes it seem like Trolls are bad guys (which I've always been told, and thought, they are.)

Do you consider Soviet Jackal a troll? I do. He spammed, he flammed, he always entered a thread with the intent on ruining it.

But he did make people laugh. In the end though, he was just another bad apple.

And Charizard? Classic troll. Shock sites, Halo 2 leaks.

So in the end, it depends on your own interpretation. Some see shrewd people as Trolls, I see them as Devil's advocate, so to speak.

Before The Gathering™ in May of '05, they may have been considered trolls. They aren't considered trolls anymore. Since May 2005 a new genre of Troll has emerged. They are quicker, smarter, faster and more abundant than anyone cares to imagine. If you have posted on Bungie.net since that time, You Have Been Trolled, whether you realize it or not.

On more than one occasion, Trolls have been in OXM and even the front page of Bungie.net. Do you think random flamers/spammers would be given that honor? The answer is no.

This is not a topic that is subject to interpretation. You cant look at a lemon and decide to call it a pumpkin because thats your interpretation. We are dealing in absolutes.

Bungie.net is the best game developer on the planet, do you really think that they would just let ordinary trolls roam thier forums? Hell no, they imported The Trolls.

Either I misunderstood what you said, or you're calling Moderators trolls.

It was a misunderstanding. What part made you misunderstand, so I may edit my post to avoid future misunderstandings.

ICEMAN, see AtomicWeggie's post on page 4(?) for further clarification on your troll vs. Troll confusion.

Well you see them differently than I do. Many a time I have seen this phrase:

Don't feed the Troll.

Naturally, that makes me believe that they are bad. And that comes from learning from others while on this site and then taking that knowledge and forming an opinion on it.

What you see as a Troll, and what I see as a Troll are two different things. That's what makes it interpretation (and opinions.)

ICEMAN, see AtomicWeggie's post on page 4(?) for further clarification on your troll vs. Troll confusion.

That's what I'm gettting at. Apparently we're dealing with two different kinds of "trolls."

Well on other forums, Trolls and spammers are one in the same. Here they are different. Most people don't know this so they still say Don't feed the Trolls (or something similer) when what they really mean is don't feed the spammers....which doesn't exactly have the same ring to it.

Basically we've adopted a moniker that most would avoid and made it our own. Were we/they spammers in the begining? Probably not....although MTR....but because they were catagorized as trolls, they basically ran with it.

I think that's what they're trying to tell me.

Still, when you see a moderator say "Don't feed the Trolls," and other members say it, you naturally get the impression that Trolls are bad.

If you want that impression to go away, then people need to stop saying that (I have a feeling that won't happen anytime soon.)

That's just propoganda, like McCarthyism. Oh...boo...I'm a Troll and I'm here to eat your children...blah blah blah.

We need truth and tolerance here.

How about not labeling pple at all...the internet turns the knave into the brave and the brave into Gods...honestly in the real world you rarely have an arguement with someone and just go out label them something like "You _____!" because you'll probably have to sustain damage to your face and/or groin...pple do it here because theyre "safe"...

This includes you, Wuyie... The content in your post right there is very contradictory towards the point of your post. I'd label you a troll, or at least a spammer, because that's what you do.

Why wouldn't we call a "Friendly person" Friendly, and a "Jerk", a jerk?

Labeling people for their actions, in my opinion, is perfectly fine. It's how our society, and in some ways, this community, runs.

Iceman, I've already PM'd you the difference between what we're talking about here. The phrase "Don't feed the trolls" that the ninja's use on B.net refer to common forum trolls.

There is also a forum group called "The Trolls." Just because that is our name doesn't mean that we are "trolls" in the internet forum definition of the word.

So when you see a ninja talk about trolls, he is not referring to our group. Big difference.

Wuyie, labeling people appropriately, usually by the majorities' opinion is much different than labeling people by a few individuals' opinions, such as calling me what you just did.

Hey Weg, aren't they known also as the largest organized group of sexy bastards ever assembled under one roof?

I've also heard that they're better than you, not in Halo 2, just in general.

Both of these statements are indeed facts. Last year a top secret test was conducted by the FDA and Department of Interior Defense. Tests were run and re-run in hermetically sealed laboratories using Nobel Prize winning chemist Harlan G. Finkboner's fail safe method of testing called; "The Boner Bonsai Munchausen Effect."

Upon the tests completion, Mr. Finkboner was put into the CIA's witness protection program to protect his identity. After of course he ate each and every page of the hard copy of the test. So the "golden dookie" that you see under glass in The Troll cave is in fact Harlan Finkboner's undisturbed lacquered excrement of the test proving our sexiness and superiority.

Twink, you are absolutely right. I hear of a man from The Trolls known as JAC who can shoot fireballs from his eyes and lightining bolts from his arse!~
