Dude, an OS is not going to be sold by a single game, no matter how awesome or excellent the game may be.

And quite honestly, I'm more excited about getting Vista than I am about getting H2PC. H2PC, all in all, is just a game. Vista is supposed to be a new operating system from the ground up. I'm pretty sure there are a helluva lot more people upgrading with my thinking than are people upgrading using the formula "OMG H2PC=VISTA"

I'll let someone else explain the technical schtuff you mentioned. I'm too tired and lazy to fight right now.

Im sure you could play halo on an old spectrum 48k if it was written to do so. True it wouldn't look anywhere near as good and you'd probably have to load it over an hour or so but it would probably be possible! (Mmm monochrome colours).

Whats the point in developing something with all these new fancy features if everyone is going to turn around and say "No. We aren't going to use those because there are other people who dont have those." and they never get used. It's the same argument as when CDs came out, when DVD overtook the video, PCCD took over from 3.5" disks.

Also, me15ter, Vista isnt *THAT* exciting, although it is confusing. They've moved all the control panel about, choosing screen setting is weird and it still makes the same MS boot up noise as it ever did. It does have a funky see-through blurry glass effect though. So... it's sort of good ;)

Let me answer the vast majority of people who are complaining about Halo 2 being on Vista and not on older operating systems such as Windows XP.

Most of the people who are pissed off that H2 will only be for Vista want it for older operating systems. But the point is, most of the people who are annoyed by this fact (most, not all, but still a whole lot) have the crappiest computers. What's the point on having H2 for your operating system like Windows XP if you've got a crappy computer that probably won't even be able to run it!?

Like K121 Widowmaker. Do you all remember a while ago he said he was going to make Halo 2 for Windows XP since he was upset that it was Vista only? He's got a very low-end system. (I mean no offense to Widowmaker, I'm just stating a fact.)

TriggerHpy here is no exception. Why did you complain? I wanted to state this fact earlier in the other thread you posted several months ago, but it got closed because you and Ipjuunin were mad at me because you guys thought I was making fun of you for being poor.

*shrug* It's your opinion. I'm excited about the fact that they restructured the architecture to make it more secure (i.e. programs like Internet Explorer aren't integrated THAT deeply into the OS to wrest control of it, that by default, user priviliges are set to a moderate level to prevent program hijacking) and made it generally more user-friendly. Confusing...again, a matter of opinion. I mean, you look at things like the Breadcrumbs they're adding, the restructuring of the Start Menu so it doesn't expand across your entire screen and then some, the increased built-in security, Aero (which unto itself is another subcategory of excitement), and in my mind, it's a winner.

And compared to H2PC...it seems like a distant second when you factor everything in.

DAMMIT, KIM is HERE. and i didnt want to go on google because i would spend about a hour looking for what vista does. here a guy answers a question in 5 seconds. and i decided a dell would be a good next computer. and in my last thread kim u were making fun of poverty. U BASTERD. and if u didnt notice in the beggining of this thread my question was answered. and i CAN run h2 on this computer because its just the graphics. i got a fps around 30-40.

I wasn't laughing at your poverty. Did anywhere in my posts in that thread did I go, "ROFLMAOZORS J00 R POR!1!11!!!!!111"? No, I did not. I may have been a jackass, but only because you refused to listen to others and you criticized Bungie, when you had no good reason to do so.

And honestly, I doubt your computer could run it, or if it could, you woudn't get decent performance or graphics. You say you "got a fps around 30-40". What the hell, exactly, do you get 30-40 FPS in? Halo PC? Doom 3? Wtf? If you say Halo, well guess what? Halo and Halo 2 are two very different games in terms of graphics. I highly doubt H2 will be able to run on a GeForce 5500 with decent graphics and framerate.

Again, I apologize if I am offending you, I'm always like this. But you know, we're less inclined to help you if you act like a jackass.

And anyway, if your question was already answered at the beginning of this thread, then why would I bother saying the same thing? It would be unnecessarily redundant, just like this thread.

Blarg.

yeah i am pretty bad with PC's too, and i have a question:
someone said Vista is software not hardware.
so does that mean i can like buy a disk and install it and not buy anything else like new drivers or whatever?
yeah also this doen't have to do with halo: what the hell is RAM? i just can't understand. evry explanation i get is tottaly unexplainable.

Okay, you're horribly ignorant at PCs. Many people are. Don't feel bad.

Vista is software, obviously, considering it's an operating system. So when it comes out, you'll have to buy it and install it. Just like installing any other OS, I suppose.

Also, how can every explanation you get be totally unexplainable? My grammar senses are tingling!

RAM stands for Random Access Memory. Basically, it is a type of computer storage whose contents can be accessed in any order. If you can't understand that, then go Google it.

O M F G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i get a 30 - 40 in halo, battlefield 2 and unreal tournament because of all the ram sqiushed in the computer! I SAID I WOULD GET VISTA IF I COULD. I CANT AFFORD BECAUSE IT COST ATLEAST 500-1000 DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 MY COMPUTER CAN TAKE A CRAP LOAD OF DAMAGE AND NOT FREEZE!!!! I MADE THIS OTHER THREAD TO ASK THAT QUESTION CAUSE MINE WAS CLOSED DOWN. YES I WAS VERY OFFENDED. AND YOU JUST SAID AFTER SAID I DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY CUZ U SAID TOUGH FREEEEEEEEEEEEKIN LUCK. AND GOOGLEE SUCKS.

But like I said - not all games are created equal. And what resolution and settings can you run these games on? 30-40 FPS is not impressive in a game like Halo at 640 X 480 with all settings lowered.

Oh, and stop freaking out, dude. Vista will not cost "500-1000 DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1" Not even $500. Chillax.

Dude, there's a small chance that your computer would be able to run H2. Small. However, I don't think you'd be too happy with the performance you'd get, if you could get it to run.

Nice reasons everyone.
But one thing:Vista will take up a lot of processing power and RAM. MAke sure you have a lot of it to run Halo 2 Vista to the max!

Yes, you are, dude. Gaming isn't cheap, as I stated in your other thread which you posted about a month or two ago. Besides, Microsoft doesn't need games to sell their OS, and I wish people would stop bashing Vista.
Yeah wut he said, and your grammar is horrible.

Euhm...we all know that Windows Vista will feature DX10 and all the latest graphical trinkets that come with it, and we know that Halo 2 Vista will be for Windows Vista only...but as far as I know, it still isn't confirmed that Halo 2 Vista will make (full) use of this DX10 code. And judging from their latest screenshots, they're not using a single DX10 feature!

Sure, they've taken those screenshots on a hi-def widescreen monitor, but it's still the same two-year-old game build on a slightly updated seven-year-old game engine. why don't they use the Halo 3 engine huh? Both Windows Vista and Xbox 360 use the XNA code as the game development tools, so it should be very easy to port Halo 2 on the latest engine to PC.

All I see in those new screenshots is jaggies, jaggies and more jaggies. All in front of a low-res 256 colour background without any updated models, texture or anything. They did add a bit of bloom lightening to distract us from the antiquity that this game engine hails from.

Now, I wouldn't mind so much, if this game was also available on Windows XP, but if they're gonna make it a Vista only game...they had better use every DX10 feature with it!

EDIT: Before any of you start whining that I probably have a crappy pc, these are my current pc specs:

Asus P5W DH Deluxe mainboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 processor (OC'ed at 2.94GHz)
Sapphire X1900XTX 512MB graphics card
OCZ Gold 2*1024MB DDR2 Dual channel kit @533MHz
DiamondMax10 320GB S-ATA2 16MB cache 7200rpm
DiamondMax10 250GB S-ATA 16MB cache 7200rpm
Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic soundcard
Acer 21' LCD-TFT 8ms monitor
Logitech 2.1 speaker setup
Windows XP (SP2)

So I don't have a crappy computer that can't play Halo 2 Vista, judging from the latest official Halo 2 Vista screenies...I could run that game at the highest settings, with only my DX9 graphics card!

As for now, I am NOT impressed with this lame port.

Hello? Have you been paying attention, dude? It's an early build! Not the version that's going to go gold.

Everything is a guess until we see the final product.

An early build doesn't mean that the graphics will get a complete overhaul when it's done, and early build means that it still has bugs in the code and that it isn't feature complete yet. Sure they might make a few additions to the graphics, but I doubt that it will look much better than it's current state.

And if they were planning on updating Halo 2 Vista so that it would use the latest DX10 features, why not simply say this? This isn't teasing us, this is simply claiming that it will be a Vista only game because Microsoft wants this, not because they're using the latest and greatest graphics code available only in Vista. We all know how Halo 2 plays like, we already know it's plot, so there's no real reason to act secretive about this port.

I wouldn't mind for the current graphics if it was released for XP also, but if they want this game to be Vista only, they had better make it worth my while...and money!

I mean, why don't they use their new Halo 3 engine for this port huh? It looks so much better, and that would truly be a game worth buying soly for Windows Vista.
Now I hope that you're right about the graphics and how they're gonna look much better in the final product...but I highly doubt that this will be the case. We'll simply get some lame pc conversion of a two-year-old xbox game with a few extra maps and some bloom lightening to make it look like a completely new game.

Speak for yourself. The vast amount of people who will buy H2 Vista have probably never played the Xbox version, because they're PC gamers, and don't like the controller. So, no, not everybody knows the plot.
