Bungie has said that halo 2 for pc will only be for vista Witch for me is not a problem because i have a dual boot with xp and the beta of vista (completly ready it does everything that the full will do).but for most people who wont get vista due to its price or because the y dont now how to dual boot,it wont be good some feed back please.

What? Play a game? FOR FUN???
This concept of fun confuses and infuriates me!

HALO 2 WILL NEVER COME TO XP. Quit wasting time complaining about it. This is the umptheenth thread about H2 only being on Vista.
Enough. Its never going to happen on XP, and I'll let someone else whos got the reasons memorized word for word explain why.

The graphics for Halo 2 don't look good enough to require DX10, I mean..Crysis doesn't require it and the 360 can't even handle that, but the 360 can easily handle Halo 2.

I think M$ loves using Bungie games to sell their platforms ;)

Why waste time developing for an outdated OS?

um yes....DX9 vs. DX10 anyone? I don't see how that could be an easy switch. That's basically like asking for halo 3 on original xbox. I know it's not quite the same, but that's the gist of it.

...except if you look at the core architecture, the kernels of the system, XP was based off of old...what? 2000 architecture, based upon something or another. Vista, on the other hand, has completely different base coding than XP.

Of course converting it would take money and time. And to be honest, playing H2PC seems like a distant 7th reason to get Vista when I size it all up.

But from the screenshots, the graphics don't really look better than the Xbox version of Halo 2, so I don't see why DX10 will be needed, when F.E.A.R. clearly has better graphics than Halo 2, and is on DX9..

Here's a reason: PROGRESS!
XP is outdated. When it was new, it was crap, because it was based on already-outdated software. I have said outdated software.
Yes, my computer is still running 2000. Yes, I laugh at me too. I am still trying to convince my parents, who are complete tehcnophobes, that 2000 = crap, XP = slightly less crappy crap, Vista = probably moderately good.
I have yet to succeed in 5 years of trying.

I find it interesting how no-one actually knows how Vista will be. People keep saying 'its probably going to be better'.

The few people I know with the beta version hate it.

Im keeping XP. If you want to get vista on the release, more fool you unless your well off. Just make sure you keep XP installed on a dual boot. Theres many programs that wont work with it for a while. Be it the fault of microsoft or the program maker.

Besides that, Ive just heard its £150 odd for the BASIC version. F.O. if Im paying that. Theres sod all point in having a wider range of versions if the most basic is out of range of many people.

Like Ive said a 100 times before, Theres only a point making halo2 pc for vista if it gives us something we havent ever seen before in gaming. It should be taking advantage of so much stuff that games couldnt before.

So if its not as good as any of the games already out, its a flop.

This is bungies/microsofts flagship game series, intended to show off the from scratch built new operating system. So if they dont impress, they should rightly get slated for not making it on XP. Where its safe to say it would easily have more sales.

The screenshots released of Halo2 (PC) were of an UN-finished game, on an UN-finished Operating System and there is little doubt that a lot of it including the graphics will change between now and the release date.

PC Gamers are the people who have to understand that things move forward. People complain that it isn't being developed for XP but why is no-one complaining about ME, or 98 or 95 or 3.1 or 3.0? It all moves forward. Im sure most games today could be played on an old Voodoo3 graphics card if needs be, they dont HAVE to be made to take advantage of the latest technology and programming but they do so they look better and deliver a better experience to the end user.

Why develop a new OS at all if no-one is going to use it and continue to use the old ones? Why make an XBox360 when you could continue to make things for the old one?

dalmedya is correct. So? The halo 3 is coming out relatively early in the 360's time, and is arguable not the best the 360 could have. The point is to raise the bar on the new platform/OS, and allow the developer to learn, in order to make future games. I mean, say the xbox could handle halo 3. Do you think bungie would still make it for the xbox? Doubtful, they'd probably like to move on, and also to increase familiarity with the 360.

I hope you guys realize the last time Microsoft made an operating system from the ground-up was Windows 3.1/'95. So yeah, XP is based off of 2000, which is a suped-up NT, and it goes on and on.

I realise how old it is. I realise what potential it could have by running on Vista alone, but as I said, until I see it doing something no other games have, and wowing me, I'll hold my judgement on weather they could have just done it for XP.

They could make it for XP as well, dispite all the extra costs I still think they would sell more. But thats another argument, and their decision.

In short, unless its better than every single game out now by quite a way, they wasted sales for making it just for Vista.

We will just have to wait and see.

The first beta was a bit screwy but the RC1 they just sent out is alot more stable according to a lot of the people playing with it. I haven't had a chande to get my hands on it yet (they should have made it an automatic update) so I don't know yet.

WTF, I leave for a few days and this place turns into a noo.....I mean warzone.

Ok let me break it down.

XP is an out-dated POS.

Vista on the other hand looks to do for PC's what OSX did for Mac's.

Its a wholly new OS, it also implements next-gen PC effects, such as DX10.

Yes Halo 2 could be on XP but whats the use in making two version of the same game with one giving the better expirence?

It's a waste of time, money, and men to make it for XP.

XP isnt quite a POS. Fact is, no-one truely knows what the final Vista will be like, so what are you comparing XP against?

If it outsold the vista version, it wouldnt be a waste of money would it?

Do you know how many PCs are running XP? Many more than there will be of vista for a long time, especially given the higher prices of vista. And its not as if XP is that buggy. Its not like a 98SE to XP move. A lot of people simply dont need vista. And why should they spend £150+ just for a few things they dont need?

But microsoft has decided to use Halo2 PC to show off Vista, and I cant blame them. Perfect oppertunity really.

But I only hope it does impress.

We all know it is perfectly capable of running on XP, but M$ is a -blam!- about it.

Im fine with running Vista to play H2PC. I really am fed up with XP at this point.

The only things people need to do is eat, sleep, go to the bathroom, and die. Thats it. Everything else they do is because of something else. People don't NEED to upgrade to Vista, but they will. Once I get RC1 in the mail, I will half judge Vista. Beta 2 was terrible. I couldn't have it running for more than 10 mins without it freezing. I hear RC1 is better.

You will probably see very little difference from H2V from Xbox. DX10 doesn't magicaly make things look better. The developers have to create things. Since bungie isn't going to create a whole bunch of stuff for a port, you won't be seeing that many new things. It will however run faster, smoother, and more efficiently than if it was on dx9.

Do what you wish, seems you're pretty confident (coughnarrowmindedcough) in your choice, but between an OS running off of outdated base coding, and a newly restructured OS, I'd rather take Vista.

Halo sold Xboxes, Halo 2 kept them in the running, Halo 2 Vista will sell the Vista OS.

I'm assuming that's the master plan :-p

No, it isn't. I wish people like you would stop saying, "OMG M$ WANTS TO STEALZ HOUR MONEYZ !!11!!!!1!!" Microsoft doesn't need video games to sell their new operating system. The master plan is progress.

Despite the fact that I think Halo 2 would still look alot better than on the Xbox even with just DX9 cards, I still think that having H2 for Vista is a good idea, and most of the people complaining are mostly people who can't afford a new OS. Hello, people? Gaming is a luxury, it's not meant to be cheap. Making Halo 2 for other Windows operating systems just so some people can play it is like burning Manhattan to the ground so some punk in New Jersey can see the Empire State building.
