I just recently set up a dedicated server for my clan, but everytime I try to join, it says: Your client is newer than the server. Or something like that. Please help me. I also have the latest version of the server.

How many computers do you have? And if you have two computers, are you sure you set up the dedicated server in the computer that DOESN'T have your HaloPC game installed?

He did say he has the latest version though...

He might have installed DS on the computer that has his HaloPC installed.

I only have one computer, and the DS is on that comp, with Halo installed.

Ther's your answer.

You need more than one gaming PC if you want to host your own DS with you being able to join it. You can't join a dedicated server in which you have it installed in the same PC that you play HaloPC on. Then it won't be "dedicated" now won't it, since if you're just going to use one computer, you could just host a non-DS game.

But then, yeah, this got me ticked off as well, I mean what the heck, for clan leaders who don't have another gaming PC, they can't host dedicated servers, unless they rent'em. =/

Well screw that, I'm not gonna buy another PC just to host a server. Not to mention I don't even have a router.

That's incorrect...you CAN host a dedicated server and play on it all from one PC. It just won't be as smooth as a seperate server, since a single network connection can only handle so much upload/download bandwidth.

Dedicated servers aren't auto-updated. That means you need DS 1.07.

To join your own dedicated server, go to LAN Games in the online listing. Your server will be there, and you can join it, assuming that it's 1.07. Then just use Rcon as you normally would.

P.S. Sometimes, for whatever reason, your server won't show up. Either try an IP connect, or restart Halo.

WHOA. FINALLY. I. CAN. MAKE. MY. OWN. CLAN. SERVER. WOO7ERS.

But before I start downloading the Dedicated Server like an excited, rabid dog, is there any flaws/cons to hosting a DS on your PC than hosting it on a different PC? Like lagging alot mroe than you would if you hosted it on another computer, constant errors, etc.? I hope not.

well, there are several problems *but also a few good things*. The major problem is that halo pc sends out the data for the dedi to recieve, then that data does a loop at your isp and comes back to your computer. Then the dedi does the same thing, resulting in you using up a lot more bandwith. granted you may have a simmaler problem on hosting a server on a separate pc using the same internet connetion. Another problem with hosting and playing on a dedi at the same computer is that you have to run be running both the dedi and halo at the same time, which increaces the ammount of cpu utalization. On an older computer this can create a large ammount of lag.

There is still good though! You can come and go from the game as you please and not have to worry about the server going down. You also have a very nice ping with your server, show it off! If you get banned somehow or someone is doing something bad, you have the server right there to take care of.

thx ^^

oh, also don't forget to have halo pc and the server set up on different ports. Otherwise you won't be able to join your game.

Whenever i run my dedi and game at the same time, my dedi is set to port 2304 and my game at 2302

I'm sorry, but I have no clue what that meant. Once again, I'm sorry for being ignorant...

And I have a question. When I set up my dedi server, I don't only want to set up one server for my clan. I want to set up 3: a private/clan war/training server, a public server with gametypes guests wants, and another public server, but with gametypes that us {LP} clan members like. Do I need to download Halo DS three times to set up three dedi servers? Or can I just download once, and it gives me options to set up multiple ones?

k, you can have up to 8 dedi's running at the same time. you can start all of them from the same program. you may have to copy the program and put it in separate folders to have different settings for each.

about the port thing. You can't join a server that is on the same ip and port that you are on. halo uses port 2302 to send and recieve data, that applies to halo pc, ce, and the dedi.
To have a server start on a different port, you will need to start it up with an extra command '-port ####'

you can do that by creating a shortcut to the dedi program, under properties for the for the shortcut, and in the target field add the command after the quotes *don't add the ' with the command*

the other way is to start the dedi from the command line. I wont tell you unless you use the command line to start up the dedi *its hard to explain*.

Ohh so you join through LAN for your own DS thanks
I've been wanting to test it to make sure i got the int.txt right

>>EDIT<<
Hmmm. I just tried but it didn't show up in the LAN server list. I had my firewall off and my ports are forwarded. Do I need to forward different ports for a DS? When I tried to join direct IP it gave me the Retrying Server thing... :P can anyone help?

If you trying to run 3 or 4 servers from one computer, with no router AND want to play on it at the same time, you are going to need a *LOT* of upload speed otherwise everyone will have a very very bad playing experience.

Yeah, I figured that might happen. I might only make two for my clan, a private training server, and a public server with normal gametype rotations. I'm going to manually host servers that has gametpye rotations which us {LP} members likes. I don't want to cause too much lag, so yeah.

Also, I have another question. Boo didly, you mentioned something about having your own ports for your own dedi servers, but does the ip/ports come WITH the DS you created? Or do you need to just think one out of your head, with some random Halo related ports? Also, people have been having problems with their DS, and they can't join it, or can't see it in the LAN list. Will this happen to me? I don't want to download/install anything unnessacery, ever since I got Call of Duty 2, my hardrive has been running out of space, with only 4 gigs of space left. I might buy a 160 gig hardrive later on (after I buy my FX5200), but until then, I can't download or install anything unnessacery.
