What's so wrong about posting about politics, religion, blogs, posts about members, and among other banned things in The Flood? It's supposed to be off-topic right? Why not make it really off-topic?

I mean who really cares what people say there? Spamming should be the only thing that you should get blacklisted for. There's a filter for bad words too. I just don't see the logic anymore to restrict members so much in that forum.

I think if people were allowed to do this, people would eventually become mature and we'd really have some deep discussions and topics to talk about, plus the regulars we love to see there would stay longer instead of leaving the site for long periods of time.

The flaming, dude.....it's all about the flaming.

I think the rules need to be a bit more strict. If there wasn't any rules there wouldn't be any discussion, it would be people flaming people for their opinion, and spamming non-stop. People would be trying to get attention by posting fake blogs, and people would be flat-out insulting people via creating a thread about them. I don't see how they'd mature, if there is nothing to guide them along.

Yeah, and I know what all you guys are saying. But I love The Flood. I just wish it was more like the groups and other forums I've been too. I'm thinking if it was really off-topic we'd need round the clock moderators, and I don't think anyone would want to do that.

So, by that logic, The Flood serves no purpose.....?

The problem is that it would require a lot more attention.

They would have to stop threads that bash others, threads that are borderline obscene, and threads that target one's political or religious views.

Flawed logic, perhaps...

The Flood is for a non-exclusive group to talk about about general things, but they are restricted from certain topics because they're too touchy for our public forums (especially the state of the Flood, if not Bungie.net altogether).

Groups on the other hand are somewhat exclusive groups (open or not) and they are to be used to talk about those topics that are taboo on the public forums. The administrators of groups can better handle their members by setting a member queue and keeping a closer eye on it (as it is their group).

The issue of unrestricting the Flood is that this forum is designed for everyone, and it would quickly become a battle ground of cursing, racism, anti-semitism, and practicly anything that you can think of that is bad. It is just too much. Now, less restrictions I can see, but there are still things that shouldnt be allowed.

I have to disagree. I honestly think that The Flood should be a little stricter. Many of the threads there seem to break a rule. I'm not saying it should become bootcamp-esque, but I think that if a thread is locked more consideration should be taken as to whether that user deserves a 7 day ban or not.

BadJMan put it so nicely. Giving people free reign to talk about whatever they want certainly won't make them mature.

Taboo subjects go in groups, and being a game developer's forum, I don't see why such matters have to be discussed publicly.

Personally, I don't like browsing an off topic forum filled with nothing but short threads about school/work and long threads arguing blindly about beliefs a forum won't change. What I don't understand is threads like these with people that rarely contribute to the Flood and complaints about lack of intelligent discussion at the same time. Like...does talking about what you're suppose to talk about constitute more intellectual debate? The Flood is the funnest, in my opinion, and you can be highly creative both in creating and replying to threads...even with these "strict" rules.

Good point. Anarchy would only make things worse. The Flood accomplishes its purpose, and we are allowed to talk about almost any topic there.

I for one agree with you. Sure it'll take more moderating but I'm sure out of the thousands of members Bungie could probably pick a few more ninjas. Give the Flood free reign but be extremely strict when it comes to flaming. No doubt the first few days/weeks could get messy but it would level out eventually.

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

The people of Bungie.net have already proven they can't even discuss Bungie related material in a mature manner. If they can't control themselves when discussing a video game, do you really think they will be mature when discussing things like politics and/or religion?

If so, don't worry, reality will still be here when you get back.

I think that if you want a totally free forum, then you should start your own, hit up SA or something like that. Having a forum on an official website that has all kinds of... bad things... in it, would certainly be bad. There has to be a line somewhere, I think the fact that we have a spam board at all is pretty unique. Lots of places won't even give you that much leeway.

Excellent point. We have plenty of freedom already, and there are private groups that discuss politics and religion.
