Alright, since no one has directly addressed this issue, I will give it the old College Try. I have seen people complain about the fact that the pistol has been removed and replaced with the Battle Rifle. I am confused by this complaint for two reaons, the first one is, why complain when you basically have a pistol that has thirty-two bullets with a semi-automatic option, and second, why worry about the assault rifle being gone, everyone hates it anyway.

Wasn't the AR replaced with the battle rifle and the SMG and there is still a pistol it just has a slower rate of fire but is more powerful?
How do you know the battle rifle has a 32 round clip?

Bungie did not say there will be no pistol. When asked the question if whether there will be one they say "No comment" I, and thousands of others hope there will because dual wielding pistols will ROCK!!!

The smg is basically a powered-up AR and the Battle Rifle is basically a Pistol with more bullets and burst-fire when it's not zoomed. Basically they just switched them around.

I hope the pistols gone for good. It was the only unbalanced weapon in halo 1 and whilst it is one of my favourite weapons i'd rather the game was perfectly balanced than not.

Besides the battle rifle is looking awesome.

If they do bring back the pistol i hope that they bring it back without a zoom and much decreased long range accuracy. The pistol should be a short-medium range weapon - that would be much fairer.

At the moment the pistol is effective in all but extreme close and extremely long ranges. Which is why it is unbalanced.

Those are some thoughtful ideas. They should definately not have dualwielding pistol zoom and it would be nice if the acuracy was decreased. They are as accurate as the sniper.

OMG!!!! That would be so awsome! But ya about the people getting pissed about the BR replacing the Pistol and AR, WHO CARES!!! The BR is both put together! But if Bungie Puts a new pistol in the game and you can dual wield it.....................*heart stops*

Major overbalancing, if there was the original pistol, there would be no dual wielding. To sort the fact that you should be able to dual wield, they turned it into a 2 handed weapon, the Battle rifle.
There probably will be a pistol of some kind, but seeing as how in Halo 2 there is already a med range weapon, there will be no scope, probably slightly less accurate (but not too inaccurate) and maybe less powerful, (whoever has a wierd notion that pistols are super powerful, is strange in the head).
The pistol from first strike would be good, less accurate, no scope, more powerful in single player but not multi. It should be less powerful in multiplayer and target sensitive like the sniper was (Gold elite vs. Blue etc.) If implemented properly, I have no quibbles about a pistol in Halo 2.

"It's better to be dead and cool, than alive and uncool!"

I will be sad if the pistol in not in Halo 2. Mainly because who knows if the Battle Rifle will be as powerful as the pistol. I do not think that it is an unbalanced weapon because it takes some sort of skill to kill someone with 3 head shots.

It will take the same skill to hit 3 headshots with the BR, so what's the problem?
I also meant dual wielding pistols, not just one.

I hope they have a more short-medium range version of the pistol in H2 like the version in First Strike.
Even though i love the pistol from H1 i must admit it is poorly balanced.

Ok. I was thinking: WOW!! I want to be just like shady88 cause I could then beat 15 people by myself. Then I realized that you were fighting your mom, sisters, and 5 year old cousins. First of all, it is a lot easier to kill 15 different targets in a large stage like BG or SW than it is to kill one guy. By the way, if you beat those guys in a level like Battle Creek, then you are a lying piece of trash and everything you say from now on is null and void.

It would be quite hard to explain in story terms if they just took away some of the pistols accuracy, hey i say who cares, there are other weapons you know.

In response to your post, pablofrogo,as I said in mine, who knows if the BR will be as powerful as the pistol. It may take 4,5,6 or more head shots to kill someone. That is my main concern, but if it takes less than 3 head shots, then I have no complaints. If that is the case, then I would not be upset about losing the pistol. But I have been playing Halo for over 2 years, and I have developed a fondness for the it.

Well blackwater, you are also lame. Any pistol that can kill me in 3 shots is stupid if I can unload a full clip of AR shells into you and it MAY kill you. I have always thought that the pistol is a cheap weapon to use and should only be used by newbies. You also seem to think that the pistol requires "skill." Well, I know many people who think that the pistol requires no skill at all, because zoomed out if you see someone off in the distance, you can kill them pretty easily with a pistol. And no pistol should have a range that great in any game.

First of all I believe the pistol is unbalanced but it's no weapon for new players. New player weapons are AR, Shotgun, Rocket Launcher (bigger guns) Secondly is takes some skill to kill a guy at extreme close range with a pistol wich can easily happen on a crowded map.

In First Strike one of the spartans gets a pistol looking weapon with a oversized barrel, as the books are usually very close to what the game is im betting that that is what will be "replacing" the old pistol.

 • 05.22.2004 6:00 PM PDT

Alright, I'm going to answer this question with cold, hard, logic. My love for the pistol aside, this is what I really think happened in Halo 2- and why Bungie added the Battle Rifle and SMG.

Looking back at the two starting weapons on most missions in Halo (pistol and Assault Rifle), you'll notice that the smaller weapon, the pistol, is much more powerful than the large automatic weapon, the Assault rifle. To tell you the truth, I don't think that's very realistic- neither did Bungie. So to solve this problem, Bungie takes the Assault rifle, and gives it new skin. It becomes the new pistol, the way they're supposed to be, worse than your main weapon, the rifle. The new Assault rifle (SMG) also becomes dual-wieldable to give it more firepower than before. If you notice in the recent demo at E3, the SMG even has the same retakcle as the Assault rifle. So now Bungie has the Assault rifle completely balanced, and realistic. Now for the pistol. They turn the pistol into your new primary weapon that the Assault Rifle once was. To make the weapon not be able to be dual wieldable, it's made much larger, almost a clone of the Assault rifle. A scope is thrown in, number of bullets are doubled (but power is halved).

...and -blam!-, you have completely balanced, realistic weapons.

[/RANT]

Im very sure neither weapon will be removed from the final release of Halo 2. Why the hell would bungie be removing things from the game? The only reason the pistol seemed overpowered is because its the only weapon with area specefic damage besides the sniper rifle. Same goes for the assault rifle, it only seems underpowered because it doesnt do area specefic damage, and ill bet all weapons will do different types of damage to different body parts in Halo 2.

It makes no sense whatsoever to not include everything from the first Halo in its second installment.

In one hand, we have the high hopes and faith in tradition, blindly wishing the AR and M6D will return.

In the OTHER, we have the close-minded contentment that the BR and SMGs have promptly replaced both in solving the balance and power issues so many have clamored for in recent months.

We'll agree that the AR was useless on it's own, and the pistol was all too powerful. We must realize however, that we are speaking of a VIDEO GAME - nothing more. Hence, the potential for CHANGE. Beef up the AR, and tone down the Pistol.

But THEN you say they already HAVE, with the BR and SMGs!!!

It's a vicious cycle!!

THEN we bring the REALISM factor - the fact that the very STAPLE of the UNSC, and the all-too-common standard-issue SIDEARM of ALL UNSC personnel simply CAN NOT DISAPPEAR overnight. It's not possible.

Or IS it?

THEN AGAIN, even if it WERE possible, there's still the fact that all those weapons STILL EXIST. It's similar to today's AK-47. They've been around for years, what once were standard issue are now outcast and scavenged by lesser powers. So even if the BR is the new Standard, the AR and M6D MUST still be present.

Earth is our LAST STAND. Even CIVILIANS must now bring up arms, to defend the massive ball of dirt beneath their feet, that simple sphere of rock and sand which we call HOME.

MY opinion: The M6D and MA5B will return. Bungie is taunting us, torturing us, leaving us to rant and rave about their potential return, laughing and pointing and getting a kick out of it all the while.

Mangy Bastards. Such LOATHING, such LOVE.......it's almost laughable.
