You can't melee when dual wielding

The thing is there are no melee attacks while dual wielding. If you have already akimbo your weapons why would you need to melee attack?

why not? its seems like you would be able to. like it could do a lot of damage, you could punch a guy once, then do a finishing uppercut or something like that

This little thing called balancing has to be done, if you want to melee drop weapon 2, or alternatively keep the enemy at a distance so you don't need to melee.

Admittedly, Im a bit on the blunt end of the Halo knowledge, but isn't there going to be the melee weapon from the elites now? (They are elites, right?) What's wrong with having a shotgun and one of those as an Oh -blam!--er for CQB? Makes sense to me.

There is the energy sword being in Halo 2. However, the energy sword and the shotgun both cannot be duel wielded.

um.. why is that exactly? and.. if you have the energy sword, what else can you have?

Like I said, you can't dual wield with the energy sword.

The shotgun is considered a two handed weapon. The energy sword is single-only due to balancing issues.

Hmm.. I don't know about the Master Chief, but my shotguns have slings on them. And yes, I use them every day for work.

while dual-weilding, if you hit "b" (for melee), you drop your dual-weild weapon and are now ready for melee. i believe this was in the 4/21/04 update or secrets of zanzibar, i'm not sure, but i read it from official bungie.

Pressing the melee button or the grenade button will drop the weapon, I believe, and I don't think dropping a weapon will take as long as reloading a rocket launcher. :-D

O.K say you have to SMG's. You go up behind someone then press B and both SMG's would go into a sideways upper cut motion. BINGO DUAL MELEE!

Like people have been saying - If you press the melee button when you have two weapons, you drop one and start punching....

gunslinger37, could you provide us with a link, please?

"People" saying what you can do is one thing, actual verified information from Bungie is the word of God. No offense.

what i dont get is why some of u guys are so worried about running out of ammo with both dual weapons when all u have to do is press y and switch to a secondary weapon. if u dont have a secondary weapon reloaded then u arent that smart now are u

Maybe this is a misinterpretation on my part, but I was under the assumption that one could only carry two weapons, and if one were to duel wield, then, well, they'd have two weapons already. I don't know, maybe my confusion is due to my endless nights of playing Halo, but the thing is, I've been playing Halo ever since it came out, yet I can't get enough of it. I just never seem to get tired of playing with the grunts and hearing Sgt. Johnson cuss them out. :-D

Watch the demo again. When Joe kills the elite while dual weilding, he picks up ammo for the BR without picking it up. He was carrying a Needler and SMG and had a BR as his secondary weapon.

This from the fact notice the secondary weapon.
You can't melee attack or throw grenades while dual wielding. You can stop dual wielding at any time by pressing melee attack (discards extra weapon) or by pressing Y to switch to your secondary weapon.

Balance is one of bungies biggest things to worry about with halo 2's multiplayer. They had to make both dual wielding and one weapon have both pros and cons. If you are holding a single weapon, you can melee and throw grenades to equal out the massive damage you can do with the beefed up needler and bullet hose smg. Thats probably the best answer out there for you.

*Slaps head* Of course! I shouldn't have forgotten that part of the demo. I must have watched it like hundreds of times by now (yeah, I'm a Halo nerd like that :-D), I should've remembered it. Thanks for the clear up! *Goes back to the rockslide battle in Halo*

Oh, and if you guys would like a massive battle with many of the covenant in one place (I'm talking 30+), there is a way to set it up. In the 2nd level (Name: Halo), just go past the tunnel part and go to the area with a lot of rocks, a plateau, and a marine with a sniper rifle on it. Trigger the first covenant dropship, then leave and rescue the other marines in the other areas to pass the time, allowing the other dropships to drop. Don't worry, by the time you're done with the other areas and head back (either the left or right entrance) of the rockslide area. When you arrive, you'll have a nice welcome party with plenty of your covenant friends to say hi to. You can either head to the plateau and try to survive the attack or practice your sideswiping skills with the warthog. I'm sorry for rambling on like this in explaining how to set it up, but I thought I'd let the people who don't know about this, something that could turn that spark of Halo into a bright flame. I got this information from halo.bungie.org. ^_^
