You'll have to excuse Frankie, he was geeking out on pretty HD DVD pictures.
Seriously though, you guys need to get a little perspective. Here are two facts about Halo 3 for you:
1. Halo 3 will not be released until an unspecified date in 2007.
2. There will be very little concrete news on Halo 3 for a while (see 1).
So, given those to facts, sometimes there isn't going to be much to talk about in a Weekly Update that is related to Halo 3. But, considering that it is the Bungie Weekly Update and not the Halo 3 Weekly Update, that's okay. This week, the goings on at X06 were the big news. In addition to our announcements, some of the community team are there at the event, so it is logical to assume that some of the Update is going to be about what they see there.
I suggest all of you whining about the lack of Halo 3 content in this (or any other) week's update suck it up and realize that significant Halo 3 news is unlikely to appear in the weekly update. That is not its purpose. The purpose of the weekly update is to keep at less some communication to you while we're in these media blackout periods during development. Some news is better than none, and frankly, it is far easier to for us to do nothing than to listen to people complain because we didn't have any Halo 3 news to talk about.
Hey Achronos,
Let's say I swallow the observation that Frankie is simply that interested in HD technology. Well, doesn't change the fact that by gushing about it's various qualities and price over here on the Bungie Weekly Update he is advertising the thing. If I know that... he knows that.
Putting that aside, I never focused only on a lack of Halo 3 information.
I simply said that the Bungie Weekly What's Update should be about Bungie related happenings. Sure, Frankie was at X06. He likes the HD DVD Player.... great. In fact, he's right to like it... it's very good.
But this site and the Weekly Updates are for the people who visit Bungie.net to learn more about Bungie and this Bungie community we're all at such pains to maintain. I am here, reading the update, so that I can enjoy some interesting facts ranging from work on ALL Bungie related projects and various happenings in the Bungie world.
With that in mind, when I read an update that looks suspiciously like PR for Microsoft products, I start to concern myself that Bungie may be cynically using their updates for purposes beyond their proposed function.
All I'm saying is that it'd be nice if you guys didn't do that.... intentionally or otherwise. Of course, you could choose to tell me that you'll do what the hell you'll like. That's entirely legitimate too. I'm just speaking from my perspective of a guy who is interested in Bungie and wants to feel like Bungie is interested in him... for reasons that extend beyond my wallet.
