To address why it is "offensive," is that it tends to just be used as flaming in the forums. It is used as an arguement topper. "Well, you don't know any better because you are a n**b." And things just degenerate from there. I was being way way over used.

Has to why it isn't -blammed-... I don't know. I mean, they -blam- the term for Bittish people "green-lemon-like-citrus followed by a Y." I mean, how often does that one come up?

"You must face the truth squarely and without flinching from duty. Our enemies are mortal no longer. Mercy for such as they is a chimera, self-deception is its only ally. Dedicate this weapon, given unto your hand at the behest of the Emperor, to their destruction. Regard its function as your only duty: you live only to bring cleansing fire."

is this a joke?

i cant say "noob"now?

Wrong. Newb is a person new to a game. N00b is a person who is either an asshat online, or totally suck at the game but boast their skills.

The problem is that you can (and probably will) get blacklisted for using either.

Nah, not unless I'm seriously using it to insult you.

Like, "You're a -blam!- n00b".

But I can surely go "I'm a n00b at CS". Which I am.

Here is something I do not understand.

A lot of my friends (and a while ago even me) have been blacklisted for using the word "noob". I will call this word the N word for the remainder of this post.

First off, I don't even think it should be considered a "bad word". Sometimes this word can be used in the correct context. For example, if someone is actually new to the game, then they really are that N word. Now, it can be used in the 'wrong' context as well, such as when someone is NOT new to the game and they get called the N word. But if they're not even new, then how can it be offensive?

Now, here is what I really want to know. If it's such a forbidden word on B.net, why don't they just add it to the "-blam!- filter"? They can put in all the different ways of saying it, including the double zeroes.

If anyone, particularly a moderator, could help me out here and answer these questions, I would be very happy. Thank you.

With that rule in mind, why isn't it -blam-ed?

Read Recons rant linked in his sig. The main reason is because it is a rule made by the moderators, not bungie. Or something along those lines.

The problem is that you can (and probably will) get blacklisted for using either.

In this case, I will simply refer people to my own personal views on the matter. Please feel free to read the rant that is linked in my sig.

It's not a debate, it is a rule. It's about the fact that people aren't able to abide by the Bungie Golden Rule of "Play Nice". Since they can't seem to use the word without it being a slur, an insult, and a generalization, it is not permitted on these forums.

Which brings us to my second in question in the first post, why isn't it censored?

I'd assume that because A) There are far too many ways to get around the censorship and B) it's probably just easier to ban the offenders than try to figure out every possible way of censoring the word.

Oh...right...and uhhh...what Rokit said.

Well then maybe Bungie should fix it.

But it is not a bungie rule. It is a mod created rule. Bungie has nothing to do with the creation of that rule. It was created by members that became moderators to try and "fix" the problem of others calling one another the "N word"

At least if it's censored, people will be aware that it's a bad word. I mean, most people just use "noob" or "newb", and so if they saw that those words aren't allowed, then they probably wouldn't say them. The first time I was blacklisted for using those words, I had no idea they weren't allowed.

Well...
I moderate my use of the word noob myself. I use it in the term "noob-combo" and I will occasionally call myself a "noob" in relation to a certain area, which would be the correct context.

If someone (a mod, most likely) has a problem with that, then of course there are three options: a) a PM telling me to sort my life out b) Editing the word out c) Blacklist.

I run that risk as it is the correct terminology in certain cases.

See, that is why you must read the Terms of Use, Code of Conduct, and the stickies before posting. But nooo some people are too good for that. No point intended.

I'd figure the stickies, which clearly say:

Noob, Newbie, N00b, and any other variants on the word newb are hereby banned from use on this forum.

would work just fine.

Noob is not even a bad word, the mods are just morons and cant stand the word, so they cry about it like the other members and makes a rule.
No, its people like you that misuse it and make it so it is not allowed.

If I am not mistaken, it was declared by the Bungie.Net Moderators that the word be banned from derogatory usage, and depending on the Moderator, the word is not to be used at all, depending also upon the context. Like, for instance, this thread is unlikely to be locked even though you used it because of the context.

EDIT: If you want a true explanation, have a look see at Recon Number 54's post in this thread.

I prefer the word newbie, but that's mainly because Dr. Cox is my hero.

The word wouldn't be banned if people used it responsibly, every word in the english language could be (is n**b in the dictionary?). As Rokit said, its a Moderator rule, not a Bungie rule.

Edit: Spelling
