I'm trying to figure what should be the most affordable broadband service I should use. I pretty much bought my xbox for Halo and Halo 2 warrants me subscribing to Live. I'm most likely gonna use DSL, but I don't know what speed is "decent" for Live. Here are my options:

$34.95 per Month: 256Kbps Downstream/128Kbps Upstream

$42.95 per Month: 1.5Mbps Downstream/256Kbps Upstream

$54.95 per Month: 3Mbps Downstream/384Kbps Upstream

I don't intend to host games on Halo 2 or Star Wars: Battlefront (my other addiction), or pay for more than I actually need. Keep in mind that my Xbox and my computer is never online at the same time.

I strongly suggest trying to get cable internet than dsl. In case you dont know those speeds can vary depending how far away you are from the server. If your going dsl then i would suggest the 1.5 Mbps connection, i have that on cable and it flys. I am thinking the 256kbps would be a noticable difference on LIVE compared to the 1.5Mbps connection. 3Mbps is more if your gonna be hosting or absolutly need the fastest connection possible. I have also had DSL before but in my opinion cable is way better.

well, cable around here is $60 a month. I don't intend to host games, ever. And I live close to a Bellsouth utility center. I don't need to use more bandwidth on Live than I actually need. My computer is not running when I'm on my Xbox.

Then go for the 1.5Mbps connection. 34.95 for the 256kbps is a rip off lol and you would be dissapointed for playing online games.

Damn dude, you're really getting ripped off wherever you live. I have cable at 4.2 Mbps for only $34.99 a month. You should really look into cable as your source of internet.

Thanks. I was wondering about the 1.5 mbps connection, since its 6 bucks more than the basic lite DSL. I am more worried about the upload speed, I don't want to be the one who lags up games.

Yeah, the place I live at (Orange Park, next to Jacksonville) is full of people suckered into anything that looks seems nothern/westen and chique. I wish there was a cheaper way.

Well, 3 Mbps/256 Kbps for Comcast Cable is $42.95 monthly. Looks like we have a winner.

That's what I'd pick...besides cable internet.
