Its a form of bumping. Its unfair to the other posters. When you post something, the community will respond to it if they see interest. That way the boring ones get filtered out from the interesting ones. However, when you bump, your post gets pushed to the top regardless of whether of not anyone else posts. Second reason... Why you have a 10,000 character limit. I personally have only used it up completely once. And in that event you are allowed to double post the rest of your comment below. Finally there is no reason to, all it displays is a lack of any online "manners" of sorts, and that you have no regard for anyone else’s threads.
The problem that I have with double posting is that it's often a result of near-sightedness and/or rushed replying on the part of the poster. If their thoughts are still so scattered when they're posting that they didn't think of everything they wanted to post the first time around, then they should've just slowed down. It gives the impression that their post wasn't that well thought out and thereby takes away from the legitimacy of their posts, deserved or not.
Exactly, double posting just shows you don’t know what you are posting about to its full content. Besides even if you want to add on, you can always edit your post to insert the parts you want to add. Just like I am doing now.
If you want to address multiple points then there's no reason to use two posts, there's plenty of space in one and you can quote as many people as you want. Replying to two separate posts/ideas with two separate posts seems like a waste. That said, I realize that sometimes you'll read something, have an immediate reaction to it and you have to reply to it then and there but then after you post that you'll read the rest of the thread and see that there was something else you wanted to address. That's somewhat understandable, but in general you should try to read the entire thread before replying to it.
Once again, you can always edit in the rest of what you want to say, and what I am doing now looks more organized than a double post. Usually if you read through the entire thing you will see that someone else already covered your comment, you will also find that you may find new arguments later on in the thread. These new points may be more interesting than the original one. The point is, read through the entire post, think about your reaction, and post. Especially if its in a political group.
