I think it would be cool to make your own Halo 2 battleground. Then be able to post them on Xbox Live or XB Connect.

Yes, definatly!! This would make Halo 2 MUCH better and posting them on XB live/connect would mean that i'd never get bored of the game!

I'll give one reason why there shouldn't be a map editor. Quality of maps and gameplay will go down. Not to mention, Bungie will have to build in download support into Halo 2, which whether they have or not, they're keeping top secret.

Number one...every Xbox live game has download support anyway and number two we would only download the maps if we wanted to play the map...so the bad ones you would not have to play unless it was your choice.

  • 05.22.2004 2:33 PM PDT

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

I would like the map editor because you could make your own maps to play with bots(if Bungie has them), but what would be even better is if you could make maps with covies on them. You give yourself ThhUltimate Challenge.
And Bungie could occasionally have map-making contests, and post the winners on Live. Viola! The content stays fresh, and all Bungie has to do is judge map entries.
But the map editor would suck if any idiot could play a crappy map they made over Live.
The problem is that even if you don't have to download every map, you don't know which ones are good, and the servers would be flooded with non-Bungie maps.

I want to see a map editor because I would love to build something that my friends and I can LAN on that we really want to play.

That isn't necessarily true. Downloadable content is different from downloading. You may be able to download, say an update, but not necessarily MAPS or ICONS etc. I know for a fact some Xbox Live games do not have downloadable content. And, if what you were saying was true, then Bungie would have no debate on the downloadable content feature in the FAQ ;)

I don't really see any downside to a Map Editor...if the map sucks just don't play it...it's as simple as that.

I have Xbox live...and every Xbox live game once again has downloadable content...updates are something different but there is a section for Xbox live games when you sign on and you go to the section which says "Downloadable Content" and if there is a new map then you will be able to download it...it's standard...even KOTOR has it.

My point was, not necessarily. There may be a 'section' for it, but your GAME has to support what you download.

Well I must say I'm no longer sure what you're talking about but I know Far Cry Instincts is going to support it for the Xbox so why would Bungie not be able to do it? According to UBI you'll be able to make your own map and you can also test it on the fly...you guys need to have a little more faith that Bungie can pull it off.

I'm not saying they couldn't, I'm saying they haven't decided. When you download content for a game, on Xbox live it's just a general server with reserved space. But when you actually download it, the game you own (say this time Halo 2) has to support outside maps that are on your harddrive inside the Xbox. Because, every game on the Xbox loads it's data from the disc, into memory and keeps reading as it goes.

On a side note, don't trust anything that's not from the mouth of Bungie.

When I download a map from Xbox live...it gets stored on my hard drive number one...number two Xbox Live 3.0 supports us having our own storage space on Xbox Live (I think it's stored on an Xbox Server)...so if we upload our map to Xbox Liver then someone would be able to download it.

You are missing the conceptuals completely. I never said it COULDN'T be done, I'm saying Bungie has yet to announce it's support for it. When you run your game it has to READ the harddrive for custom material. This must be SUPPORTED IN GAME, otherwise this feature does not exist. This means, Bungie MUST PROGRAM IT in their game.

Dont ya think it would be really poor like the map editor on time splitters 2!?

  • 05.22.2004 3:00 PM PDT

"It's better to be dead and cool, than alive and uncool!"

Yes, I believe that custom maps should be on Halo 2. Mainly because after more than 2 years of playing Halo, I'm ready for some new maps. And my computer is crap, so it will not run Halo pc.

I get what you're saying but there has not been an Xbox Live game I have played to this day that did not allow me to download new maps from Xbox Live and then store then on my hard drive...and Bungie said they are going to fully support Xbox Live 3.0 which means voice messaging, clans, and user created content.

I'm stating that as of Thursday, May 20th, 2004 Bungie FAQ state that they have yet to decide or let us know. I hope they do at least some content download, because I'd love a custom icon.

Well don't worry the FAQ doesn't have to say it...content download on Xbox Live is standard.
