Ok, maybe I wasn't clear.
Take an assault rifle. Fire at a friend until his shield is down. Count the number of bullets it took. Now, do the same thing again, except this time kill him. Count the number of bullets it took to kill him.
Now subtract your original number (the shield) from the new one, divide the number it took to take down the shields by the number you just got from the difference, and you have your percentage.
IE (x-y)/y
