I'm just curious about this. Haven't checked who the authors were, but were they bungie sanctioned as far as being story sources and not just settings? I just see a lot of people quoting info from them and am curious if they are legitimate sources. No other bungie product used books to tell the story, though in Marathon you had to do a lot of reading, heh. Also you can look at things like the star wars books. They aren't the "official" stories, but they are what is there.

Yes, they were taken right out of The Halo Story Bible.

Trautmann helped.

Yes the books are definetely legit, and they carry a lot of vital plot information for Halo 2, so it is probably recommended to read them just before Halo 2 actually hits the streets. I don't know about the comparison to star wars books, but it seems like these are way more relative (the talk about making a movie in the last Bungie Update said that they had enough Halo history to cover the movie) so I gather that this is from the books.

Ok heres my Gods honest Halo loving fan. 1st and 3rd suck. Read em if you please but they took away from the battles and made it all Star Trekish. Way to much crappy spaces battles and stupid characters. Oh yeah and the covenant smack us around like Homeless Prostitutes. Like Jackals rule everything and the Elites are only in the end of the 1st. Yep.
The Second that was written by a different author is a well written adaption of the game. Filling in alot of the stuff that was in between like the base and stuff. Read em if ya want but I consider them just as you said the star wars books are all BS compared to the movies. The GAME itself dicates all I take seriously myself.

Hey Danarchy... cool the language and terminology... I've never read the books and don't intend to, but saying you hate 2 of them is sure to get a reaction here... tread lightly. I get them fired up alot, but I'm used to that and quite enjoy geting people to prove themselves...

I actually liked FoR and FS more the HtF. They gave more information about the plot and developed the story more. The Flood seemed too action packed for a book. The action was only good in experience.

I would actually say the Flood was the worst of the three, I really did not like the writing style, and the fact that it made you identify with the Covenant was a poor choice, but oh well.

if you read an interview with the author of the book, FoR & FS, he says he actually satat a table with bungie members and discuss what should be in the book. Plus: i`m pretty sure bungie wouldn`t let them publish it if it wasn`t legit.............

The books follow Eric Trautmann's Halo Bible. Saying the books suck is like saying Halo sucks. BLASPHEMER!!!!

The books were good reads (regardless of if your a halo fan or not) I have to agree (with who ever said it first) that the second (the one actually based on the game) was my least favorite, not due to the story but more writing style.

yea, the 2nd wasnt that great, probably because it was written by a different author than the one that did FoR and FS (that guy rules). The Flood wasn't as interesting and most people could just play Halo and find out the whole story, so it didnt get as much appreciation as the others.

Im in the middle of reading The Flood again and yeah. Though I absolutely LOVE all the Halo books, out of the 3, TF is my least favorite. not by much, mind you. but i still liked the other two by Eric Nylund better. Plus, my name is Eric and Eric Nylund wrote the third and first books and Eric Trautmann keeps the Halo Bible. GO ERICS!!!!

EDIT: Though i did like how the story was viewed through Master Chief's, Captain Keye's, and the Covenant's eyes at certain parts.

Like some of you other guys said, I think that the first and third books were the best. They kicked ass, and they also explained the story that didn't go on during the game, so it gave me some cool info and stuff about the halo universe. Kick Ass.
