Is there a server usually dedicated to playing online? Nothing like xbox live but maybe just some people who are usually connected.

You don't need a specific IP to play with people with the normal version of Halo.
Just open the game up, and go to the multiplayer internet lobby. There will be a list of servers in there to choose from.

1-Is this a legal version of Halo PC

2-If this is CuEd, are you using a legal CD key?

3-If this is CuEd, you must manually update, please search MS website for the 1.7 patch

OK now we got to the real problem. Try downloading the patch from here http://www.softwarepatch.com/games/halo.html and installing manually then run Halo and you should be fine

The autodownloader won't work on some systems so you need to download and install it.

Hmm. Does downloaded versions of the game alter the numer of players online? My friend got a downloaded version, just to see if my computer could run it-- Real ugly on this thing... Nay fear, I play the Xbox one anyway.

Anyways, a hundred-ish people? Maybe on a good day, I'll see forty or fifty. But I'll probably only find one big game, which lags like the dickens.
