No harm in opening both, to figure out which side is closer to vid card. Yeah I completely didn't care about grounding, and I'm still alive...I think

about the case thing, it really doesn't matter which. on my comp the door is on one side so it's pretty straight forward. like we've said before, it really just depends on your case

And the metal watch, no, that won't help. Just touch something metal before working, and you're best advised to either touch one part of the metal case or something metal while working on it.

Remember, you can't get static shocked through wearing your metal watch, now can you?

Oh ok...phew, I was worried about my life there for a moment...xD

Anyways, I have a metal watch (pretty expensive too, sorry for bragging, lol), and I always wear it on my left wrist. Would that help? Oh which "panel" of my PC should I open? On the google tutorial video, it shows the guy opening the right side (right as in the frontal part of the PC facing the audience's direction).

No need to brag about cases :P Generally its the left side when facing the computers front. Take that panel off, but if you just see a big plate of metal, then you know you need to open the other side :)

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

Stop scaring hima bout static. You wont die from it since you are trying to discharge it from you to begin with.

Oh ok, so I should take off my watch before opening and working with it right? And don't worry, I'll see if I can find some thick metal plate and I'll either sit on it, or put one of my feet on it. =D

Ok, I watched tons of tutorials from google video and youtube, of how to open your computer and install a hardware without any problems, and I think I'm ready. Once I get my graphics card in one month, wish me luck guys! =)

Thanks everyone for your help.

Good luck, which you won't need. You'll be amazed at how easy it is. Most people think of computers as a magic box filled with pulleys and levers and wires and crazy stuff hooked up to the "magic tv".

It's really no more work than unscrewing a box, taking a side off, pushing two clamps to take out a video card, and then replacing it.

I wonder if the Wolf thinks the Moon listens when he howls at it.

lol i know what you're feeling like. i was all nervous and careful when i was cleaning out my ps2. just a few recomendations: wear rubber gloves so that any static that may have been built up from any carpet in your house cant fry your Mobo(it is VERY possible to fry a motherboard by static), and then just look around on your mobo for a slot that your video card can fit into perfectly because the video card slots arent labeled most of the time , stick the card in, make sure its in good, close up your pc, boot it up, install the driver,-if the box that your video card came in didnt have a cd with the driver installation on it then go here and get the driver for your card.then install it reboot your pc and you should be good to go. dont forget to readjust the settings in halo so your new video card will take affect.! GLHF!

Yeah, I was exploring youtube last night, and there was a good documentary of how a computer is built, and what's inside. When the workers that are being filmed opened up a random computer, all it had inside was a big green panel (the mobo) with random parts, some "tapes", and a few wires, that's all. I was like "wow...it's that simple???" after the 7 minute video was over, and I think I have enough confidence to open up my computer now. I'm even thinking about giving it a test run, by opening it a week before I get my graphics card. =D

Yeah, you've got to be really really dumb/make a big mistake to damage something just by opening your computer. No harm in doing so. I used to have fan problems and had to open the case every 2 hours or so and manually give the heatsink fan a flick to get it going.

Oh, and when you're blowing out all the dirt in the fans, be sure to jam the fan with something so you don't break the fan's delicate motor. Just wedging the tip of a Q-tip or toothpick to stop the blades from spinning will do, so long as the fan doesn't spin when you're cleaning it. Why? If you blow the air in the wrong way, or even if you blow the air into it too quickly, you might damage your fan's motor.
