What can we do about people who wreck groups? I don't mean, don't let them get power in the first place. But what about after they've trashed a group? Can we post in the public forums to let people know what happened and to watch out for them?

Cos I know we can't make threads about individuals.

Any advice guys? 2 groups I'm in just got hit. One had almost everyone booted and the other has GONE

Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

No, making threads about individuals is not allowed. In theory you could send a PM to a moderator, but since the mods don't get involved with group issues (and can't restore groups), they may not help. And sending a PM to Achronos won't work, since he's said time and again that if you're not responsible enough to watch who you give power to, he's not going to help. He's helped in a few cases, but he's already said he doesn't want to be responsible for other peoples' mistakes.

Yeah, fair enough. We've managed to salvage one of them. I just wanted to warn people what happened.

Discuss them in leadership groups and warn other leaders about them. The public forums is not the place for discussing individuals.

Yeah, this has happened a lot before. Group wars are stupid. But in the future, be a little more careful with who you grant admin powers to, as stated earlier by Mabian.

The only people who can gain access into your groups are Super Users (gold text.) But they won't do anything about it; I guess because it happens so much and people need to learn.

I'm sorry about your loss. Keep your groups on a tighter lease in the future.

God forbid you send me one of those I was checking for cool gamers and saw you messages too, I will scream to the top of my lungs and smash this damn screen/BlackBerry to pieces! You've been warned -_-

May I tell you that when you start a Chapter, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. This means you run your own forum without having to hear from Moderators. There are perks as well as cons. The con is once some idiot decides to destroy your chapter the moderators will NOT help you because they didn't create the chapter. One of the perk is once you create that chapter, YOU are the moderator of that chapter that means you do whatever you want and you show the members who's boss.

In other words, stop crying because we ran out of tissues.

http://www.bungie.net/fanclub/106646/Group/GroupHome.aspx oh yea and if you want to you can join.. but if you look at the members that have high promos like mc and all kinds of others like concil man leader and supreme authors

Anyhoo. Yea, just don't grant anyone power unless you know them very, very well. And even if you do, give them very limited power. My basic rule is to never give anyone except yourself full powers...

Yeah yea, I know that (I'm not the person who hands out roles anyway...) but I was sort of meaning is there anywhere we can let the community know to look out for them? A list thread or something...?

The best thing to do is PM Achronos about it and warn him about it. That is what I would do...

Achronos knows..........he just doesn't care.

Sure, he has the power to do something about it, but seeing as how people need to learn from their mistakes, I guess he chooses not to. Or he just doesn't want to bother with it. Or both.

At least that's the impression I have on his stance concerning Group Destruction (because this happens all the time, despite the warnings about who gets group admin powers.)

The only coin for which I have to purchase loyalty is honor.

Prognatus Archos

Through my experiences I have had to deal with similar instances, and have refined a bit of a system.

1. Full control- Unless you have agreed with one person from the start to co-lead a group, NEVER give this out to anyone.

2. Promote, and demote (edit security roles)- Never give these powers out either. They can be even more damaging in the sense that they can take over your group.

3. Kick, and approve- Do not ever give out kick, and be cautious to who has the approve power. You do not want a conquer to kick all your members out, and you do not want any conquers to get in.

4. "Privatize" your group- make sure that new members need to be accepted in order to post, and get in. This will serve as a filter to make sure that known spammers will have to be manually approved by you, and can not just come and go as they please.

6. Delete post- Do not give this out. Although its may seem harmless a spammer can go through and delete every topic and post in a forum, and make it almost devoid of activity.

7. Edit post- Give to trusted advisors.

8. Blacklist control- It is alright to give this to people you know in real life, or over some online messaging system. Only give to trusted advisors.

9. The others are not very serious or dangerous to give. At the worst the person could spam, or give everyone 3 day blacklists.

*Also in recent times there has been a few instances where people create phony bungie.net login pages, or phony e-mails with spy ware in them to get your password. Do not open an e-mail from anyone you do not know. And do not trust a login page unless you can see the bungie.net login in the address bar. Protect your login information, never share it.

If you follow these basic guidelines then you should be safe from an attacker. However, if your group is destroyed you could try pming Achronos. He helps if he thinks you were making an effort to protect the group, but try to prevent the attack in the first place. Good Luck with the groups.

What the hell are you looking at?

You're missing the point.

there are plenty of other groups out there that have non of this trouble - you need to look at yourselves and think WHY people want to trash your group.

My point is, Is there somewhere we can post to let people know to watch out for them.

IE: New Members, they don't have any reputation. How can we tell if they're liable to do that or not? *cough* Compulsive liars *cough*

No, there isn't. There maybe a group out there that is made up only of people who have founded groups of a certain size. I suppose it is not a horrible idea in those groups to set up a thread of "troublesome" individuals.

Could one create a group of "Troublesome Individuals"?
Or would that go against the Do not make threads on users Law?

It would have to be a private group. There are plenty of private leadership groups out there.

Can I make a suggestion?

Why not handle the group-destroyers the old-fashioned way...like CIA-style?

Think about it; hire someone in your group to be a double-agent to sneak into the enemy group to gain intel, then report back to your group leader to destroy the enemy group...

On the internet, intel is EVERYTHING...so use it, because making a thread about it in the septagon is useless...moderators can't get rid of group-ruiners because groups are private, thus there is no proof...so you and your group have to work together, like a group SHOULD, to take down the destroyers...

It is the only way to do it...fight back, but fight back with guerilla tactics...

EDIT: In fact, I am working on helping a group right now...just helping out is all...my choice...sometimes, it's important to help groups whom have beefs with other groups...no matter how nerdy it is to watch group wars, it is extremely funny...you gotta hand it to some people, some of those groups are just plain lame...denying this fact is futile, LOL...for example, some groups are dedicated to elites having power over spartans in groups....how lame is that???

If you found it...PM me....I have somewhat of a plan to stop the group-destroying...but PM me the riddle, if you know it...that's all I can say...

Okay, I am going to try and end this conversation right know. Many people spam attack other groups because they have a grudge against one another. I can tell you know, when a group involved in a group war is destroyed they will most likely rebuild. The only way to protect yourself, as many have said, is to be a power who*** so to speak. Do not give anyone else power except for yourself or someone that you know personaly or for a few years.

I understand your point, merokit, but sometimes, to defend yourself from a pesky group, you have to destroy it...

So hypothetically, from your point of view, if something or someone is annoying you, you have to act through violence or the same way they act on you? That is not helping or fixing the problem, that is becoming the problem you are trying to fight.

Not exactly...

An example: I was just added to the member queue of two groups: a spartans-only group and an elites-only group...the last post made in the elite group was two months ago...thus it is dead, meaning I have essentially taken it over...a group will only remain active once EVERYONE has left...but I am one of the few remaining members...

The leaders of both extremist groups are relatively active...if I could get them to turn on each other, I could destroy BOTH of them without doing anything..."elites VS spartans" seems to be a heated debate in the group world, and those 2 forementioned groups are allies with relatively popular groups...so if the two groups are gone, it would hurt the reputation of the larger, more popular allies...see?

But the real trouble is selectively taking out a group...if a crappy group is allied with a nice group, you have to find a way to disband the two without harming the nice group...which is what I'm trying to do...
The elite group is one which I have gained intel on...the leader was last active a week ago...there are four topics....the last post was two months ago...therefore it is a wasteland...it's like a dying weed...yet it is alsos allied with the gunslingers...all I have to do is PM the leader of the gunslingers and tell him/her that the group is dead, and it will disband from the elite group, thus the elite group is rendered harmless, then I'll leave the member queue, and it will die...

Maybe I had too much caffeine, and maybe I'm excited from watching CIA shows....but this is fun, like being a kid again.....XD

Yes, but as you are still saying, you are fighting with what you are fighting against. Even though you are not necessarily taking over the group from inside to out, you are still destroying the group. Yes you are not killing the group literally but you are just playing the wait and react game. The group is already dead by that point in time, and who says they will not re-group bigger and better with a more active leader? So, to sum all that up, you are mainly just playing the waiting game, yes? Correct me if I am wrong, please do. Because, until then, I will react as I have been.
