It has been a while since I have been active and this is a new forum ID so I am not a noob.
Now my real points: I was wondering if Halo 2 Vista is available exclusively on the Windows XP Vista opperating system or is it able to be used on regular Windows XP?
narcoticproperties@hotmail.com , I would like to chat about it if the staff could contact me.

I'd rather hear about Halo 3. Personally, I could care less about Halo 2 Vista. I've played Halo 2 already and won't be buying it for the PC, and I definately won't be buying Vista just for it.

this wasn't by frankie so I'm guessing the weekly update has just been delayed? It also doesn't have the label "bungie weekly update" so i don't think it's the weekly update. hopefully tomorrow they will have a weekly update that is very full of info and that is why they had to hold it off until tomorrow (due to the mass amounts of halo3 info that just couldn't be added by tonight). =0P

:o.

I'm horrified that mouse accelaration was ignored totally until after the game had been showcased, so now, not only is the game ugly and outdated, it's being made by a load of developers who have quite obviously ignored every other game on the market atm.

To the idiots arguing over maps: IF people knew what they were doing with maps, they can be tiny and still be fantastic. The source engine's maps can be huge, contain thousands of objects and textures and be only 5 or 6mb. The reason the CE maps were so -blam!- huge, is that the people making them insisted on using custom everything. They could have just used the standard Halo textures (of which there are more than enough), but no, they had to customise eveything, custom weapon skins, custom vehicle skins, custom mothers. Downloading maps directly from the server is the only way to do it. Having people have to try and search through everything on the web leads to problems and conflicts. And anyway, even if they are that big, 120MB is only about 5 minutes on a half-decent connection, that is of course, assuming, you're running the H2V server on a dedicated box on a proper line.
Death to home-run servers on domestic lines.

You dont seem to understand the Blam cache file. CE map files are considerably larger because they are inherently so from the start. Whereas Counterstrike: Source map files are small, CE maps are large because they have to carry everything. Source maps dont have to carry anything other than the maps themselves. All the weapon/player models, sounds, textures, and animations are stored elsewhere. With a CE map, everything but certain global objects, which are mainly unrelated to multiplayer, are stored in each individual map file.

Now if you want to rid yourself of everything but custom level geometry and its respective texture mapping, then go ahead and -blam!- about the size of the maps. For you, it's a royal pain in the ass, but for me, it's freedom. Because of the way Blam cache files are made, I'm able to put in ANYTHING I want.

Looking at the latest build of the map I'm going to put out on H2V launch day, retail market and wallet willing, the level geometry itself is just under two megabytes and my bitmap folder is slightly smaller. Does that make you understand now?

Yeah, heaven forbid they go to www.halomaps.org and use the search feature.

There has been a variety of answers to likely the most FAQ conscerning H2V--How is dual wielding going to work? It seems simple...right mouse button for right weapon, left mouse button for left weapon. I understand how such a predicament could put strain on a developer, and possibly this is the best solution.

Okay, the point Im trying to get to here--I would like to see a setup that would allow players to do as we've said...right for right, left for left--but... I'm not sure how many PC gamers would agree (although my gaming history starts with halo xbox, Im a PC gamer at heart now), but I think it's going to be a bit of a headache trying to use this setup while NOT dual wielding. It's going to feel terribly odd trying to shoot a battlerifle or something similar with the right mouse button because typically this type of thing would be done with the left button and the right button to zoom... so on and so on. So for my question...

Will it be possible to have the right for right--left for left setup while dual wielding, and a traditional setup while NOT dual wielding. I don't make video games, I just play them...So I have no idea how hard it would be to program something like that, and how functional it would be. It's just a concern of mine...and maybe others.

MrTapion:
The name is Windows Vista, not XP Vista. And no, Halo 2 wont Be for XP. Vista is the next Windows OS incase you are wondering.

elmicker:
The reason why the HEK was released is that people want to customise everything. Sure we could have just used the textures and stuff that came with the game, but people do love the customization of halo.

NO! Do you not get the flippin point? 15 people downloading the same 40+ meg map file from a server is not what I call good. And whats worse, probably a portion of them would just leave and go dl another map.
Having people have to try and search through everything on the web leads to problems and conflicts.
Oh my, searching for the map name and the word halo is soooo hard... it hurts my poor wittle fingers.
Death to home-run servers on domestic lines.
Not everyone is rich and can afford to pay for a server in some city far away. Anywase what if the people just want to have a small 6 player server that they can control with ease? Is that a felony?

TwoyTaylor:
If the ability to customise the control scheme is like Halo, you would be able to map the controls however you want. You can have the right on right, left on right, etc... or you can have the triggers on the keyboard if you want.

All the people blaming about the update:
Shut up. If you want to post blam, then go to the flood. If you can't have keep on the topic of Halo 2 Vista then DON'T POST! It is as simple as that. The next update my or may not come out this weekend, depending on what frankie feels like giving to you... which I hope is very little due to the fact you have no life outside the realm of updates, pitty. Perhaps you should dig a hole and cover yourself up with dirt if you can't live without an update every week.

Right, of course. As with almost all PC games, you can map out the controls how you like. But there would have to be something seperate altogether for dual Wielding and for NOT dual wielding. If you set the right weapon to shoot with the right trigger, Im assuming that would go for 2 weapons or just one (which would cause us to say...shoot a shotgun with our center finger...that would be difficult for me). It might be possible to have a set of controls to be used while dual wielding and another set to use while not dual wielding. That might be very helpful actually.

Cool update. Not sure if I'm gonna go for H2V or not...maybe if theres some new stuff I will but I'm still content with XBox.

And wheres the next podcast!?!?! I want the -blam!- podcast!!!!! :D

edit: Zaph, very good post about the map files.

Where's the REAL Weekly update? The one that's well written and reflects Bungie's disturbed sense of humor spiced with tantalizing bits of Halo universe bacon. No offense Matt, but the Halo2 Vista updates are boring... there's too much irrelevant marketing fluff and Vista puffery. We want irreverent BUNGIE info, not poseur corporate MICROSOFT blather.

I have no interest in Halo2 for Vista (specifically the uninspired promotional wanking.) And from the comments you've made (e.g. mouse vs. thumbstick; JUST figuring out mouse accelleration...) and the general tone of your missives; I'm a concerned that you're more accustomed to addressing an audience of suits rather than ranting to a maniacal cult of gamers
