I would've thought that an option existed that allows a user to simply browse all of Bungie.net's groups. It seems somewhat silly that there isn't.

What if you're not sure what you're looking for, and that you only know you're looking to join a group or two? There'd be many people who'd do it on a regular basis, scanning through them all, occassionaly saying, "Oh, this looks like a cool group -- I think I'll join.".

Relying on advertising alone to recruit new members means that many young groups with potential go unnoticed and eventually die. A shame, really.

Should this be implemented?

Some groups don't want that, which is why we have the ability to have groups locked that require admitance into it. I see no reason to make a group that can have anyone read through anything they want as they please. There really is no reason someone cannot join a group that they are interested in unless the people in the group don't want them to. And in that case, it is the group maker's choice.

It would be ok. I have often wondered how many groups there are, and what they are called. Yes and no to your idea at the same time.

Okay, so on creation of a group, the founder gets the option to "Add group to community directory". They either check the box or they don't.

That way, groups that want to be more selective about who is aware of the existence of their group, can be.

The membership request system (in which the Admin is in control of who is allowed to venture beyond the frong page of their group) will still be active ofcourse.

For Carnage, Apply Within.

I have returned from the Untamed Lands. MOAP is dead.

I guess it would be a good feature. Have categories for you whatnots.

Does anyone use the group search?

"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

Considering how many groups there are, and how many groups are made per day, I'd say the process of "looking for a group" could take months, perhaps a year, with such a directory.

I do, however, remember that someone once came up with the idea that when making a group, the creator should label the group with certain "keywords" that describe the purpose of the group, which would then be used for the group search.

I would like that feature. I do like to check out groups that sound interesting.

I'm fine with the current system. When I'm bored I just type in towns I've lived in and see if there's any groups. Sadly all the ones I've found are dead.

If there was ever a Newer Hawtness, it would be neat to see the classifieds get revamped in some way to where groups were advertised a little differently. Kinda like a yellow pages with pertinent info or something. It would have to be a little different then a forum so people couldn't bump their group to get more attention. Perhaps there could be periodic spotlights on groups from time to time. I dunno, maybe a bad idea...

Then what's the point of groups being private if anyone could view them?
