In H2 the shooting needs to be as realistic as possible. Not to cheapen the majesty of H1 but the shooting, b/c it is done perpetually, tends to get repetitive and you become descensitized. Some ideas to liven this shooting component to the game are . . . .

1. Blood trickles pouring from the wound.
2. Add some guts- I'm tired of the two dimensional koolaid stain on the walls and ground.
3. Design the physics so that while recieving fire the elite's body contorts and seizes, instead of just standing there taking it.
4. To some it up make it so that the player feels himself pumping lead into his/her opponent, never let them feel indifferent to the central act that is the base to Halo combat- shooting.

*Do this Bungie and you have yourself a game.

It sounds like a good idea, but is it realistic. First off, Halo 2 is practically already completed, I doubt they would go back and make changes at this point in time, but who knows.

there are some things here and there that i would not mind seeing changed, but halo was a good game b4 without that stuff. u dont need blood and gore to make a great game

I think your right they should have more "taking damage" animations whether its just that their arm flys backwards if you shoot it. I also think the covenant (or any others) should be fully destructible. (e.g. fire a rocket at them and their body parts go flying) I think this would make it very cool but its age rating would probably suffer. If this is so too, I think shots with the less powerful weapons (e.g. smg) shouldnt cause decapitation (just keep it at shotguns and rockets etc.).

This is true, redefining key characteristics of the combat gameplay would take a large graphics engine. I would settle for realistic entry, and in some cases exit wounds.

Yes, Halo is a Cinematic Reality, not true reality. Halo is more like a movie where things aren't quite the way things happen in real life. For example, did you know that most cardiac arrests are fatal? Only about 20-25% of all cardiac arrests are survived by the defibrillating paddles. In the movies it looks like every single time you pull out the paddles the person survives. Movie reality is different then real life.

Nice fact. But you've misunderstood me. I understand and encourage games not to strive for reality because the reason we play games in the first place is to escape reality, so playing realistic video games would be counter-productive to the purpose they are creative. I think Bungie could do this and still maintain the sureality that makes it great. By the way, I recall the defibrillator being synonymous with their death, but maybe were watching different movies.

Here's my opinion on your suggestions

1.blood trickling from your wound - Blood would not come from your wound because mcs/elites armor keeps it from doing this. It says in the suit, that is until you're on the ground.
2.Guts? no thanks, I wouldn't mind keeping this game at a lower rating, because I like the fact that even younger people can play this without the "That's bad for you, you're not aloud to play that" from parents. Cause I like to play with little kids too. :P Oh and the armor also prevents this from happening... except maybe from the plasma sword.
3.I believe this is in the game to some extent. If this was put in with full realism, there would be one problem... you couldn't aim. You'd be screwed after one shot is in you. Again, the suit may have a factor in this.
4.Actually I find that this is already in halo 1, because you do feel like you are doing something to the poor guy, when his shields pop and you finish em' off

In conclusion, you are a psycho. jk don't spaz

you cant say that,Draerden, this is futuristic, 500 yrs from now, our species may have evolved to have built in difribilators, or say spartan armor, but yeah blood and gore is my type of stuff

Sorry, I dont know about you, but I dont play video games to escape reality but I just want to have fun. Realistic games impress me and make me want to try them, they aren't counter productive.

OK slick. Put down the covenants guide to everything about their anatomy and physiology. These suggestions were only to be applied to the covenant and their armor is a nominal detail when you are dealing with the high grade weapons the military posses. The blood could escape the wound the same size as the entry wound, because if it did damage armor was punctured. I would advise that you not apply true physics ( covenant armor and its ability to retain blood), otherwise you'll end up ruining a good game. Chew on that.

He's right.

But you just gotta keep halo 2, like halo 1. I don't see it fitting into halo 2. It has to be somewhat consistent.

in reply to the post above
Why can't I use realistic physics theories when you have? I don't see the reasoning there.

Thats one of the things i like about Soldier of Fortune, it has per-pixel damage (shoot a dude in the eye you see a hole in his eye, shoot a dude in the hand you see a finger missing, two desert eagle bullets in the face takes someone's head clean off, ect.). Granted, gore does not make a game, but per-pixel damage does add to the overall realistic feel. There isnt a prayer of Halo 2 being like this though cause it is a pretty big part of the overall coding and it would take forever to change. And i dont think Halo 2 needs it anyways, its not really suppossed to be a realistic game.

The gore in Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix was imprseeive for about five minutes, and then just became absolutely rediculous and totally unrealistic. I could not believe that by hitting an enemy in the stomach, a organ actually comes out into his hands as he falls to the ground. The game went from impressive, to rediculous, to a coaster for my cups and a frizbee for my dog on weekends.

OK Bungie. I call on you to hype up the shooting dynamic without loosing the origional Halo spark. I'm not sure if this is possible to the extent I have asked and i'm not well versed in gaming technology so my opinion doesn't count for much other than it being brilliqnt insight.

"Poops" Have you ever read Frankie's Updates Legendary Cam? It's Bungie slang for dynamic props in Halo 2 that you can interact with.

I'm quite well read myself, everything from Ender's Game to the Lord of the Rings. I was reading Clive Barker back in grade school because I didn't like Stephen King. I've also been published. How about you?

Here are my reasons: One, Gore gets repetitive. Two, It wouldn't work realisticly. Three, It's not halo-like. And lastly, I just don't like the idea.

That's besides the point...I think that with this feature it would make the game fall in between being, too much, and not enough. With the advice halo2 would go out of the sense that it looks like Cranberry juice. And still behind the point where you don't have some Turok-gore experience. Don't get me wrong I love Turok!
