1. No comment. WTF is a rasterizer?

2. No. I said that my laptop sucks, and you said that Halo was made for "INCREDIBLY LOW RANGE HARDWARE". My laptop is the epitome of low range, and now you're assuming that I'm another one of the tards who thinks that megabytes are all that matters.

1. Yeah, you dont even understand what it is you're critisizing. For one, you could try using a dictionary. Seeing how rasterizer seems to be a noun form of a verb, you could try looking up the word raster.

The rasterizer is the code that spits out what you see when you play the game.

2. It's playing the game isn't it? Dont you understand that the ability to make things work, albeit ugly, on things they're not supposed to does not mean failure, it means inability to supply the proper hardware? You cant make a bow from the middle ages shoot a fifty calibre bullet.

Some say Gearbox sucks. You say that Bungie mandated everything that Gearbox screwed up. Maybe they all just suck ass at making PC games.

Yeah, their Brothers in Arms series is definately a failure.

Ya, bungie sucks at making games rrIIGHHtt...
So Marathon, Oni, Myth, and their classics; they all suck? Ya, you won at that...

That makes no sense at all. No doubt bungie makes great games. He never even stated bungie makes bad games. Please expand on your 5 year old style post.

I'm sorry, I fail to see how I possibly mentioned, implied, or even thought about Bungie in my post there.

Ah. Yeah, I think I know your s/n from h2v.net. I believe you have a decent post count there and wondered how that post could come around.

Shut your pie hole, and stop deepthroating Gearbox. They screwed the pooch. Sure, Gearbox's additional maps and weapons were well done, but they totally screwed up the one thing that they absolutely had to get right in a shooter - the netcode. In a shooter, nothing else matters if you can't hit what you aim at.

Fortunately, Gearbox isn't getting anywhere near H2V. MGS is developing it in house. End of discussion. Lock this thread.

I wonder if the Wolf thinks the Moon listens when he howls at it.

Gearbox did a fine job.

The xbox runs at 320x240@60Hz. Your computer is spitting out 6.5 times the pixels of what the xbox is.

.
the Box uses 320x240?! wow thats kinda pathetic. i guess when look at it consoles really arent that powerful. ive played through halo 1 for the box many times and ive experienced some framerate drops in campaign especially when using the AR.

Ok what is this thread even about anymore?

Look gearbox did a semi poor job on the netcode, but Bungie required 56k to be allowed. It also doesnt need you to speicify if your on 56k, so 56k players can be with dsl or higher.

On the otherhand if people choose to host a game and get lag its not because of the netcode, its more the host fault. Its also a variable of objects moving and how many people ect. If lots of stuff is going on then its gonna lag. You shouldnt compare this game to games like CS:S or BF2 those game came out later, were optimized for the computer from the get go, and had MP as a big focus.

Don't you love ignorance? Gearbox did everything as they were told. The beta of Halo pc had a netcode without any noticable lag, guess who made it, gearbox, guess who ordered it to be removed? Microsoft and Bungie.

Little kid gamers like you have no idea on what goes into these games, and you whine and complain. If I was in charge of Halopc, I would have done exactly what they did do. Halo pc is an enormous sucess, and made lots of money. Thats what it was made to do, not be an awsome online compeditive game.

As a gamer, I wish things had been done differently, but as far as the developer company side of me see's, they did the right thing.

If you can't see the situation from both sides, gtfo and go watch your cartoon -blam!- or something.

oh, and good post TimeSplitters3, nice to see there are some rational minded people here

so gearbox did the right thing when they half-assed put in code for 56k? is that what you are telling us?

  • 10.08.2006 8:02 PM PDT

They did not have the choice of which netcode they were alowed to use. They were told to make it use 56k, AFTER they had written one for broadband.

And as far as it being the "right" thing, from a buisness perspective, yes they did. From a players perspective not at all.

so, were they just not able-bodied enough to optimise the code for 56k?

It's complicated to write one, even more for a game like halo, which was based on a network code that was set up as a daisy chain system, and it needed to be able to control things via the server. That is why you see things like vehicles pop, because of the latency of the netcode, seeing as it needs to update the location. Theres a sticky on gearbox that explains it, when the forums go back online I will post it here for you.

Okay, I fail at life. Brb, gonna go get a knife and some Simple Plan music.....

How could this happen to me?
I've made my mistakes!
Got nowhere to run!
The night goes on - as I'm fading away!
I'm sick of this life!
I just want to scream!
How could this happen to me?

Hey, Johnny, get the hell on Xfire already.

I'm no computer expert, but my pc exceeds all the requirements for hpc, and even when I have the lowest possible settings on, I still run into areas of the campaign with sluggish fps. I never had any problems like that on the xbox, so I have to think that Gearbox didn't do so great a job. If you'd like to see it yourself, go to the stairs room in PoA on Legendary. It plays smoothly on the box, but drags on the pc.
