Every publisher hires people, as do a few developers. But you should probably get something like a Computer Science degree before testing, as it is a lot more technical than you would think.

Bungie may not hire you, but they certainly do hire testers. If you had payed any attention to the news stories and weekly updates, then you would know that they hired a team of people just for the testing of the game.(not trying to flame you)

Testers are usually Microsoft employees... the lucky ones... and yes, to get a job in the video game industry (other than working for a magazine) you will need Computer Science knowledge...

I don't think they would need to hire anyone at all. Anyone, and I mean anyone on this forum or even owns an xbox would gladly test Halo 2 for free. They have people, but I don't think they pay them.

I believe it was Shiska that said testing a game isn't as fun as it seems.

not as fun, but im sure they could find people who would test for free. With that said Im nearly positive they pay.

Bungie originally did most of the play testing themselves... like being banned from leaving the office until they had each finished playing through all of Marathon... 3 times I believe it was. :P

Not to mention the 1 month shipping delay as they got too busy playing mulitplayer Marathon to do anything else!
