Heres an interesting artical from PC World: The Future of Your PC.

Personally I thought this was the most interesting.

Imagine how well Halo 3 would look on the pc in the future? FTW!

200 watt video card? thats freaking unbelievable, then there if of course that one video processing unit for $17,000+...

yep thats why I said "video processing unit"

but think about it, look at how we need a completely spearate power plug in for our video card today. Imagine what we may have to do for more power in the future *points at the $17,000 video processing device*. Imagine having a completely separate box for your video motherboard, which you can upgrade your gpu, add more ram, having a separate power suppyl for that video device*

I bet though that the video card will stay in the computer in the future. There will be advancements that will enable the energy consumption to level off and keep the processing power to go up.

What if the highly theoretical Halo 3 for the pc had the ability to do multi-threading, addressing a separate dedicated physics processor, and utalizing multi-core sli/crossfire video cards? Imagine what you could be able to do with that engine...

Hrm...don't take this offensively, but those articles aren't exactly telling us anything we don't already know.

That kind of "we know already" article, plus the heavy advertising, is what turned me away from PC World...

Then again, I could simply be a biased sonuvab17ch

The magazine isnt that bad (good reviews) but their online sucks -blam!-.

Good find though, I dont see myself using any of that in the near-future.

most of us won't be using most of that hardware for a long time, unless something major happens.

I was more refering to games being able to utalize multi-core processors with great efficancy, enough to make gamers want the best of the best. dual multi-core motherboards with sli/crossfire *or the video device of your choice* and running those games at such high marks that the game makers can splurge on expencive effects and super-high poly models with real-time reflections.
