This is bordering on insanity. Its like youre saying that Bungie makes games not for money or profit. NO, they make it out of the goodness of their hearts. Im sure the people that work for Bungie LOVE what they do. Im sure that when theyre not going crazy trying to finish a project they feel lucky to be doing what they do for a living. But they wouldnt be doing it and Bungie wouldnt exist if it didnt sell what they made. If they didnt make quality no one would buy it. Its not like theyre planning on flying planes over cities and dump copies of their games over them for free. Theyre producing a product.

Yes, I'm aware of the fact that they do it for a living. What I'm saying is, that they're not just making their products to promote Microsoft, as some in here tend to believe.

Is Halo 2 Vista being made to promote and sell the new OS? You bet your sweet ass it is. What other reason is there for a company to devote time, resources and money to create a version of a game that came out 2 years ago for a new OS that not people dont have yet? To see if they can do it? To improve the game? What are you nuts? For money. To find a new avenue of revenue for a successful franchise and to help pick up sales for a untested OS. For the love of mercy look at the world thats behind that computer screen.

See, I like to think that there are some people in this world that have a goal that goes beyong simply making a profit. To illustrate this, compare Bungie to EA. Sure, Halo 2 may be only to promote Vista. I don't think so. Go ahead and call me naive or whatever, I really don't care. I think that Bungie has more goals than pure profit. Sue me.

Yes Microsoft "really needs to promote a new OS". They have to convince people to shell out cash for something new. They have to provide incentive. The poor want to be rich. The rich want to be richer. There is nothing wrong with that. Personally I'd rather hear that upfront. Of course they want to make money. I dont hate them for it. Ive been trying for years to break into comics because I would love to write them. But not for FREE.

If they need to promote a new OS, showing off a game that's already in existence won't really do much, in addition to the fact that XP can play games already. I guess I didn't properly word my argument. My point was, Microsoft wouldn't need to use Halo 2 Vista to promote it, if they're trying to tout new features.

It's the same reason I don't get why I see Coke and McDonalds ads everywhere. They're already household names; they're everywhere. Same with Windows.

But it comes back to the same point. You can be the biggest fan in the world. But it doesnt mean squat if you dont buy the product. Because that is the most important show of support you can give them. If you dont buy then they cant exist to make games.

You're absolutely right. Except for one thing. If Bungie made Pimps at Sea, I wouldn't touch that game ever. The concept annoys me, and just sounds stupid. Does that mean I'm less of a Bungie fan? Not at all.

And one more time in closing. If they changed the updates to a monthly thing or a more sporadic thing that would be fine. As long as they announce it. But how can you fault people for saying Id like to hear more about your project. The thing your company is working for. People keep saying I dont mind that the updates have no new info. I just dont read them. Then what the hell is the point of the update if people are not reading it because theyre not getting the info they want?

Nobody's faulting you for saying you want to hear more about the project. Don't we all? I think the problem people have is that you're -blam!-ing that they're not giving you info when you want it. Again, you make the assumption that everyone here just wants Halo 3 info. It surprises me that someone with such a narrow mind can hold an argument this long.

I don't care if the updates don't have Halo 3 info or not, because one, I find them funny in one way or another, and two, that I have other reasons for being on this site, not just Halo 3 info.

Like someone else posted, you shouldnt have to go to site A,B,C or D to find out what Bungie is doing when they have their own site. It would be like going to a Gap site to read what Louie Vutton is coming out with next fall.

You don't have to go to site A,B,C, or D for other info, because they get their info FROM THIS SITE. The only exception to that is the next issue of EGM, which supposedly has a Halo 3 blowout of info. That last paragraph made no sense, or whoever you were quoting. Have you ever gone to another game site and found something there that you didn't see here? I doubt it.

If you go to IGN or 1UP, and they have Halo 3 info, you can come here, and there's a 99% chance that a BWU will be there on the front page with the same exact info.

Nedus this is for you because I dont want to quote such a long post. IMO youre off on a couple of things. First I didnt say that the only reason they make games is for profit. You totally glanced over when I stated that these guys obviously love what they do. Im sure they make games because they find it fun. But I really like swinging my puppy around when he's hanging onto a toy. I dont do it more often because I haver to work and get paid. If someone paid me to swing the dog maybe.

I know they love what they do, which only reinforces my point.

Why would they choose an "old" game for a new OS. Well when that game sets sales records and is still extremely popular 2 years after its release then its not an ordinary game. I know Windows plays Halo now. But the point is to make people buy the NEW OS.

Eh, you got me there I guess. Touche.

You dont see Coke and McDonalds ads everywhere? Either A) there are so many around youre blanking them out or B) you live in a cave...underground...in the Artic. All brands promote. "Known" brands have just been better at it so theyve been around longer.

I said I don't get why I see them everywhere. Don't talk to me about glancing over things ever again.

As to me "-blam!-ing" and being narrow minded are just your opinions and frankly arent worth me responding to. As for the last bit about other sites getting their news from here. I dont think so. Just like in any field involving journalism and reporting news, sites about gaming try to acquire their info BEFORE the company in charge releases it.

Well, of course they're my opinions. Who else's would they be, Sherlock? Thanks for letting me know my opinions are mine; I thought someone had stole them or something.

Sure, sites try to acquire news from the source before the company releases it. You're right. But does Bungie do that? Very rarely.

The idea that Halo 2 Vista will significantly change the landscape of Vista sell-thru is insane, and your argument's relevance drops every time you say that. Halo 2 is being made for Vista for many reasons, but not to sell Vista. It is to take advantage of several things Vista brings to the table, one of which includes confining our porting efforts to a single OS and platform (making the work much easier and in a managable scope). That, and some other features that you'll hear about eventually. The point is that we're not Microsoft shills - by limiting ourselves to Vista, we can make sure the PC release of Halo 2 is both interesting and worthwhile compared to the Xbox version, as well as being manageable and not distracting from Halo 3.

And before you use the example of Frankie's post about the Zune and HD-DVD drive to call us Microsoft shills, please remember that Frankie is a gadget freak, and loves things like that. And when we can't really talk about Halo 3, he'll switch to what he knows. When you're on the road at a convention like that particular Update was, well, sometimes that happens.

Success does bring many things. But success doesn't change people with integrity. I'd like to think Bungie has that.

By that, I mean that I like fans. I'll go out of my way to be on this board during my free time to answer questions from fans (the ones that I can anyway). I've met a few fans, starting back with my first real fanfest (the Halo 1 launch party in Chicago). That was overwhelming, running two 16 player LAN games of Halo 1 when nobody knew about Halo multiplayer and before the Xbox was even launched. But that was great - for fans, I'll do a lot.

But for customers, well... this isn't a support web site. It isn't for marketing, either. It is essentially a Bungie-run fansite. You say that with success, it brings the mass market, and that we have to adapt. I have a question for you... Why?

Why should we care if "the masses" don't like the Updates? We can't satisfy them, they want everything, including the game itself, yesterday - and express their displeasure when we don't meet such absurd demands. I'm not going to change just because "the masses" tell me to. That would make me a marketing tool. We don't operate like that - we have integrity. That means that bungie.net stays the official community site. This place exists because of the community. The Bungie community existed way before bungie.net did - hell, for the longest time, halo.bungie.org was considered the "official" forum because bungie.net didn't have any forums.

We used to have a www.bungie.com site that was essentially a marketing web presence. It is gone now, because it served no useful purpose. No one here wants to waste time with that. The people we care about are the fans. Let the bean counters and the marketers worry about "getting exposure" - we'll do that, we have people on it - but they aren't working on this web site.

I've been at Bungie for nearly 6 years, working with bungie.net and the Community team the entire time. This place is special because it isn't just another marketing site - the community makes it special. It is a fansite. Changing it the way you suggest, even if it is just the website, strikes me as a change that goes against the very heart of what this place is supposed to be. And while we maybe need to work more at making fans of Halo into fans of Bungie, I'm not going to give up on that goal just because the "masses" demand more Halo 3 screenshots.

I hear where youre coming from but with success comes many things. An influx of new faces, some who are just "customers' and high expectations that border on demands.

Good ol' Tom. I love that guy. ;)

My ONLY problem with the Update, is that I was a big fan of the WWU. I wish we had more in that form.

Frank O'Connor is a 12-year veteran of the videogame magazine industry and has therefore never worked an honest day in his life.

If this isn't a site about halo 3 like stated by the mods then why when i enter halo 3 in my browser does it direct me to the bungie homepage. Case and point. you can link outside of this site all you want but i know the old xbox.com had the same thing as the new one. halo3.com leads right to bungie.net. Therefor it's expected to have halo 3 news. Which as you all remember at one time it had only halo 2 news. I am not going to argue little points but it's things that this site isn't about halo 3 that bother me.

I will have to argue the point even if a tidal wave is coming to wash my ass away.

Here, let me help you walk away. I'm locking this thread, now that it's clear that it's nothing but a trolling session.
