Ok, ill be pointing out a few of the strategies I've seen in CTF during my days on halo PC, and show it's weaknesses and the best action to take against these.

The Firewall
Ironically, this isn't really a firewall, but it does effectively block players from going through. This is a common blood gulch strategy, What happens is that many of the team's players move to the middle of the map at once and take potshots from there.

How to beat it: All you have to do is blow a hole in the formation to let warthogs past, skilled warthog drivers with gunners can do this, and snipers are also effective, but be aware, they control half the map, they will also have a sniper or two, finally, if you manage to get your hands on a rocket, go ahead and demolish the wall to your heart's content.

Final notes: If you can get past the wall (with a warthog of course), you should have no problem nicking their flag, but be aware of respawning enemies. And remember, you will have to go through the wall again, and they might be waiting for you, so be careful.

The Army
Simply, this is just all or at least nearly all the players attacking at once, they willl stay outside the base, restricting you inside, and sending people in once in a while to grab the flag.

How to beat it: If they are teleblocking, there is not much you can do, my best suggestion is to grab all the good weapons you can and make everyone pour out of every exit and shoot everything you can, Or, send someone out once in a while, and pray that they can get a hog out of there, then, make a distraction, and have about 5-6 people make a run for the hog, if someone reaches the gunner, you might have a chance to fight back. Other than that, there is not much you can do.

Notes: This strategy is a typical Death island strategy If you can sneak a hog out of your base, the enemies base defenses will either be nonexistant or pitifully weak, just grab the flag and be aware that you'll have to face the army again.

The impenatratable base
Thisis simply the opposite of the Army, the enemy players just stay at their base, defending it with all their might, they will occasionally send out a hog with a gunner to try and capture the flag.

How to Beat it: The offense they throw at you is pitifully weak, just send all but 3 players (should be sufficient to stop a hog) to launch a massive attack on the enemy, go full on with snipers, rocketeers, warthogs, and pistols.

Notes: This is a strategy most used in Danger canyon aand occasionally Sidewinder

The Vehicle whores
The enemy just sends as many hogs as they can, usually without gunners.

How to beat them: This has got to be the dumbest strategy ever, just go somewhere the hogs can't reach and shoot them with the pistol or plasma rifle (slows down their turning) But if they have gunners, they're gonna be a pain.

Notes: This is done most in blood gulch, if the whole team attempts this, you're obviously gonna have to put up with a lot of "Omg h4x0rzz" when you beat them, just put up with it.

The standard strategy
Obviously, this is everyone assigning themselves different roles, drivers inviting gunners to their hogs, the normal strategy.

How to beat them: This strategy's only actual weakness is "The Army" strategy, other than that, there is no way to beat them other than fight.

Conclusion
Now you know the strategies, keep this in mind and try to identify these and think back to this thread.

While your here, post the strategies you've seen in your days. If you want your strategy added to the list, PM me the strategy in the format of the above strategies.

Hmm, I just take the flag yelling "OMG OMG OMG OMG"

Maybe randomly swinging it around at my teammates in an attempt to get them to cover me.

Works pretty well.

The style above I like to call 'freelancing' mainly because everyone is off doing their own thing. If you're facing a team used to working together (e.g. using teamspeak or something) then you're in a lot of trouble - you'd need several players a magnitude better than the people using teamwork to beat them, or abuse heavy weapons.

Freelancing is sometimes good, as it leads to effective sneak attacks.

Really is something only for public servers though, as Nessy says.

Another "strategy" that is unfortunitly veary comon:

Forgeting about the flag and just playing slayer and trying to get as many kills as posible before time limit (if ther is one) arives.

A month ago (or two?), me and 15 others were playing a good CTF game in Chiron, and man, was it fun and adrenaline rushing. Both red and blue team has 2 flag captures, and it's point game. I quickly get the flag, and I'm telling you the truth when I type this, but for 40 whole minutes, me and two body guards were trying to survive with the flag. Yes, 40 long minutes of fun. Every time we entered a random room, for a few seconds or so, me and two of my teammates, would hide in the shadows, me with the flag, and looking down on the floor, so my flag doesn't stick out, and my two teammates crouching on front of me, ready to pummel a whole bunch of AR bullets to an incoming enemy from teleporters (our other teammates were kicking ass elsewhere). And many a times, the enemy detected our movements with their radars, and whenever we saw 10+ red dots coming at us from all sides (and remember, this was Chiron, the enemy could be in any random room), all I could think of was "Omg, omg, omg, omg, we gotta get the hell outta here!". Everytime we encountered enemies, my two bodyguards would assault them, while I try to hide in an empty room (which was nearly impossible, because with full 16 people in the server, almost every rooms had at least one person in it). I would encounter some unsuspecting enemies as well, so when I meet them, face-to-back, I start sweating like crazy, and screaming like a flag whoring maniac, and sticking the pointy part of the flag through their backs. After 40-45 minutes of nonstop adrenaline rushing action, I was finally killed by a grenade (we eventually lost). But man, if you're playing CTF in Chiron the best strategy after picking up the flag, is to get 1 or 2 trusty partners to help you out (since you can't shoot or throw nades while holding something), and keep your eyes glued to that radar of yours. If you see an enemy, quickly try to backpedal your way back to the teleporter you came from, and stick that sharp flag pole through their bodies as you run, and if you can't kill him/her, let the bodyguards finish them off.

Nah, it was exactly 8 vs 8 (with a few people quitting at times, but they were quickly replaced), but I only had two bodyguards protecting me, the others were doing something else, and completely ignoring the fact that I had the flag. That, or they were trying to hunt down the other flag carrier (that's why I couldn't score for 40 whole minutes). xD

That's due to the usual nubs who says "crap, my team's losing, so I think I'm gonna go on the winning side for now..."

*switches teams*

I get annoyed by those kinds of people...

yes rockets vs infantry on a hill.....that's gonna work honest

Well, assuming you're freelancing, and the opponents are working together, that usually means full hogloads of vehicles coming your way. Rockets are a good option at that point.

Freelancing can be very effective if you know how to sneak. Granted this game ain't no Thief clone but it is possible to sneak your way close enough to the enemy base to swipe the flag and make it home. Usually the enemy is trying to steal your flag or to go Slayer on everyone usually leaving thier base wide open.

I wonder if the Wolf thinks the Moon listens when he howls at it.

its all pretty obvious information, but thankyou for taking all that time to type/post. In my spare time sometimes i get bored so i make battle plans mosly for blood gulch. i have about 9 but ive never tryed to put them to affect. my favorite is "Artillery D"

Artillery D:

For Artillery D you will need at least 2 LAAG hogs and 1 tank.

For red base setup the 2 hogs up on the hill that leads up to the mountain pass. Put the tank in the same spot. Don't dare try to station your turrets(LAAGs and Tank) ontop of the hill because you will be extremely prone to rocket/sniper rounds. the main goal of Artillery D is to kill everything that comes toward the base(except your teammates dee dee dee). While the 3+ people are sitting up on the hill gunning and mortaring away the rest of the team is assaulting in the remaining hogs and going through the tellie. The 2+ LAAG hogs are there so that any blues that have gone through the teleporter and coming by the cliff edge they can just hose em down with LAAG fire, and the tank is to hit any long range(near the cave) shots that are too far for the hogs to make major damage. You can pretty much do this with one tank but when you shoot the tank round and people are getting closer to you the hogs are there to back you up while reloading. Its pretty much the same thing for blue base just park the turret units near the cave at blue base and defend away(just watch the cave) and any flag capture attempts should be easily stopped. I hope this works!

One strategy I've seen is... be sneaky. Hide near enemy base with flag for a while. Take an unusual path, e.g. in Danger Canyon, go up the tunnel, but don't go through the center room, go down the ramp into the canyon. Great if a team mate picks you up or if you parked a vehicle there.

If the flag is set to return on it's own, you can drop it to fight, even in close combat. If it returns when the enemy touches it, you can drop it for somewhat more distant fighting.

Yeah, its from public servers, I always go to the Maw at the wrong time, and I have no one skilled willing to switch servers to a one on one, and I cant be bothered getting a buncha good people and playing a team game.

Edit: also, to make my life easier, if you are gonna add on strategies, please Pm them to me in the format I made for the other strategies so I can copy and paste to make my life easier.
