Don't drink to excess– You might shoot at tax-collectors... and miss

Computer: Power Mac G5 CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2) Number Of CPUs: 2 CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 1.25 GB Bus Speed: 900 MHz

ATi Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition

You have to practice. A few test shots will let you know how much to lead.

First of all try to find a server that has under 100 ping you can sort the lobby by ping number so go for the lowest.

Second when you are firing at someone listen for the "beep" and watch for his shields to flare. Remember how in front you had to lead and try to match that distance on future shots.

Don't hold the fire button down it makes the gun more inaccurate. Tap rapidly or "flutter" the fire button.

Pay attention to what the players that are whipping your ass are doing. See how they move what weapons they choose and where they go on the map.

Practice! Practice! Practice!

Such inspiring words! :')

Um, he basically said it.. However, I notice loads less lag on Halo CE, but that could just be my imagination. Why don't more people do CE? I can't figure it out.

I would play CE, although all the good players stick with the professional version of the game.

Gaming Systems:
Intel Core i7 720QM (4 cores, 8 threads)
4Gb DDR3-1333mhz
1Gb AMD Radeon HD 4650
Windows 7 64bit

Xbox 360 w/ 20Gb HDD (2008 edition) & XBL Gold.

If your Ping is really bad it can be caused by a slow download internet connection and/or upload rate with your internet connection. In my experiance, a Broadband Internet Connection of 1Mbit speed or better tends to get rid of most laggy situations. If you have a 256kbit connection or slower, don't play Halo Online, it screws up the server for everyone and you WON'T be able to play without a serious ping!

Or play with a 56k connection for a couple of years, and trash loads of people unused to lag.

Not that I would advocate doing such a thing. Absolutely not.

Im on 4Mb, I dont believe that it screws up the server for everyone else, although you can tend to warp alot.

Professional!? They're basically the same thing without single player campaign...

Yeah come on, CE does have better netcode, not necessarily less ping, just less requirement for leading. Must be that all the "good" players as you say are scared to adjust. Not to mention the fact that even blood gulch gets boring after 6 games in a row. (maw dance party ftw)

And if campaign is what you care about, you can easily move over the campaign maps/get CMT.

LOL, I have broadband running at 256, and I deal with it.
Ping has more to do with the distance between your machine and and the server.
I am in Australia, so if I try to play on an American server, I get ping of about 350-400.
AND I DEAL WITH IT.

All the best players play PC. The lead is larger but alot of good players say it takes more skill that way.

Amen. To be honest, CE is basically for freestyle, to enjoy the silly maps you made. PC has official maps, and it's good for serious, competetive matches.

Ya, I've knowticed that I kick loads more ass on CE because the players there just want to have fun. Halo PC is filled with hackers, or these killing machines who have no other goal in life than to be the best halo player that ever lived. I play halo PC when I want to fight. If i want to have fun I go to CE, simple as that.

I wonder if the Wolf thinks the Moon listens when he howls at it.

and stay out of the servers that take up the first 3 pages those are usually infested.

Same, I consider myself fairly good at the game, but that doesn't stop me from placing a c4 on my face and running into the enemy base just because I can...fun>skill.

When you damage someone with a bullet or a nade you should hear a "beep". Its letting you know that you hit the person. Listen for it the next time your in a fight, turn your sound up if you can't hear it.

My halo pc has some odd sound problems and I don't always get it, but yeah it's definitely there. Very useful.

  • 10.12.2006 6:52 AM PDT

Hey, I join rooms that usualy have a ping of 40-90, and I'm using 1500k, which in Australia is pretty not bad, but I still have to lead my shots and can't walk a straight line without suddenly moving forward or backwards slightly. Is this 'cuz I'm probably playing with mainly 256 peers? Because I can't help but feel I'm doing something horribly wrong...
