I'd like to take a minute to talk on the subject of halo and fathers. Like many familys; my father and I have a hard time finding things in common. My dad has always had a passing facination with Halo, he thinks its "neat" and he "likes to watch the grunts blow up". I kept insisting that he try the game himself. Having never played a videogame in his life; he was reluctant to pick up a controler. When he finally did play the game with me, he brought a whole new meaning to the word noob. It was amazing to watch him slowly grasping the concept of the controler and the properties of the game. Guiding him through the virtual world of halo was a real bonding experience. I could tell he was enjoying it too. I can't wait to play Halo with my dad again.

My question to you the reader is... Do you share Halo with your parents? Have you any similar experiences to share? maybey your mom playes LAN games with you and your buddies. I really wanna hear some responses.

Id like to share my story of playing with my father, but hes an ass. Actually that was one of the few moments of happiness i can assimilate to him. Ahh halo, i thank the for a slightly better father figure.

parents always have better things to do they say. my dad says that halo is lame. (he says that about just about all video games, except for the first medal of honor.)

Yeah my mom watches us sometimes mostly because of the huge emotions we express at the game.

"THEY'RE IN THE BACK NO IN THE FRONT! -blam!- THEY HAVE THE FLAG! HEADSHOT OUT OF A WARTHOG BIO**H!"

I used to play co-op with my dad. He taught me how to play Marathon back when I was but a young'un, so there is a bit of a parallel there. Now I teach him how to play Halo.

He's still better at Marathon than me. But I'm better at Halo.

no combat experience

he has a hard time understanding the concept of
video games, being 55 and all, but has fun 'bonding'
with his sons and sons' friends

My parents have expressed no interest in the game other then smiling fondly and changing the subject rather quickly whenever I bring it up. After much pleading however my girlfriend did try co-op with me last wek (there was some bribery involved). She was pretty weak, I had to set the look sensitivity to its lowest setting and auto-centering on so she would stop running around looking only at the floor and ceiling screaming "Where the hell am I going?" The problem with her not being able to look up or down much meant that she kept shooting over the grunts heads.... soooo funny to watch though, but I'm not sure she'll ever let me play with her again after that ; )

You'd think an M$ employee would be willing to try it out, but all my attempts at persuasion have been for naught. Still, I AM going to keep trying. My mom would probably do it if she had the time.

my fathers 55 and he and i not only play halo together but also researched the storyline. hopefully louis wu will post it at hbo soon.

we only play campaign mode since he is much like your dad in that he sucks so bad at it but likes watching explosions and such. he is ok at campaign but he still hasn't gotten used to the controller even after almost a year.

I got my dad to play Halo; he can actually beat The Pillar of Autumn on Normal without dying! That's a great accomplishment compared to not knowing how to hold the controller. At least he tries.
My mom, however, is a different story. She gets mad when I talk about Halo. She won't even touch the controller.

My dad has played computer games about as long as i have. He started halo fairly shortly after i did and played through it himself. He enjoyed it, though he is useless as multiplayer, and it was always fun watching him, or him watching me and discussing the game. He would frequently ask me for guidance and i would help as far as i could. It would have also been fun for him to practice at multi and get better so i could play against him, but he never has, seeing as the first and only time i played him (about 6 months after i got the game) i beat him 15-1. That sort of put him off.
