I was just pondering the problem at hand: should I spend $100 on that wireless adapter for my Xbox so I can get Live for Halo 2? Or maybe I can get a huge cable instead. I have a wireless router (a Linksys Wireless G Broadband router with a 4 port built in switch, to be exact), so it can go either way

Well, I came to these conclusions:

Adapter: $100
100' Cat 5e cable : $34

Adapter: Wireless, I can put it where ever I want
Cable: I am tied down

Adapter: Can get laggy, signal can break up, etc.
Cable: Always connected no matter what, faster connection

Which one should I do? Money isn't too much of a problem, but I would like to save as much as possible. If I got the cable, I would just drill a hole in the family room, run it outside and across the roof, and through the wall into the computer room where the router is.

Please help! I need to do this as soon as possible!

You mean router, right? I'd go with the wires, putting 802.11G at distances of 100' will lead to lag.

What? I already have a router. I need either a Wireless adapter (a bridge) or 100' of cable. Oh, and the router is only about 50' away, I need the extra length due to it being on the roof (gotta account for going up and down walls, and the fact that it is somewhat in opposite corners of the house).

And the price difference is over $60, including tax.

I have two Xboxes with Live and both have 50 foot cables running through the house to connect to the router. Go with the wires and enjoy less lag like me.

Oh, okay. I'd still go with wires, if you would be adding many more devices to the network, I'd say wireless.

The cord is cheaper, and you would have to worry about interference with a wireless system. Most people hooking their boxes up to their 802.11G networks, already have them in place.

Why is your router on the roof? That just doesn't sound like a good idea to begin with.

Seriously, go with the wire. LIke you said, always connected and you don't have to worry about the signal breaking up.

Yeah. I found a good Cat5e Ethernet cable, 100 feet long, for $24 with shipping.

EDIT: I want ethernet (patch cable), not crossover, right?
