I noticed that the online is laggy no matter how direct my connection, my friends also said that they had to stop playing it due to the lag one went as far as to call it "a gong show." Is this lag normal, I always had it on PC but never played it online until yesterday. Am I better off playing XBC Halo 1?

XBC lags more than PC.

Become good, learn how to deal with the lag.

I'll pass and stay offline if it is always this ridiculous, it is almost totally non-skill based.

Actually, learning how to lead in lag DOES take skill.

And no it is not that ridiculous. Just get yourself a cable connection, and either host your own server/dedicated server, or join low ping server. And also, practice leading. "Ridiculous" in Halo terms is when you have to lead 5 feet ahead of the enemy. Most of the HaloPC community experiences lag in which you only have to lead 0.5mm to 1 inch, which is not "ridiculous".

Then don't play. No ones forcing you to. Go play outside or something then.

Add me to your friends list if you haven't already. It's a lot more fun to play with people from The Maw and people I know than random noobs.

What was your ping when that happened? Opponents ping?

Make sure you stick with the lowest ping possible (<100). If the ping starts getting above that you will sometimes see some warping.

Also, you must lead all your shots, depending on the ping. If you are under 100, you need to lead about 2-3 cm.

Oh, and xbox connect is much worse for Halo 1. Halo 2 is fine but Halo 1 gets very laggy.

You must have a horrible connection/live far away from servers.

Oh, and you're sure this isn't computer-based lag, but truly connection based, right?

Yes me15ter speaks the truth...Make sure your PC specs are up to par along with your connection.

BTW if you think PC takes no skill than you have been misinformed. Everyone else preety much said it but it takes some time to master the lag of HaloPC. You can't get it over night.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.

Make sure yer specs are correctly put like me15ter and Demigod said. Learn how to lead yer shots too. Add me on XFire, maybe I can help you practice. I could use some too.

Oh, and if you feel the need to blame someone, please don't blame Gearbox; Bungie is fully responsible for the lovely netcode.

Gearbox ported it; Bungie had a big hand with a lot of it, mainly the netcode.

Uh dude, Gearbox ported the game, as in they developed it for PC, INCLUDING the netcode. Get your facts straight before you pass judgement.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Wouldn't it be possible for Bungie to make a patch or update that fixes the netcode?

interesting read.

but i did read in there that they had designed the netcode only for broadband hoping that they would not have to support 56k. now, what if they started off desinging the netcode around the 56k, then would it have been different from now? hmmm...

forcing ff would have taken many man hours, i agree. that would have been a sucky task to get assigned to.

Computer: Power Mac G5 CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2) Number Of CPUs: 2 CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 1.25 GB Bus Speed: 900 MHz

ATi Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition

Does not matter who developed it, Bungie owns Halo and had to ok Gearbox's work.

I think I read in the article that if you have the fastest connection, it'll slow down to the slowest connection, for example if someone has 256k DSL and you have cable, it'll remain equal, sue me if I mis-read that article

The chances of that happening are about as good as you licking your own elbow.
