Subject: Opinion Poll for Halo 2 Vista

Gaming Systems:
Intel Core i7 720QM (4 cores, 8 threads)
4Gb DDR3-1333mhz
1Gb AMD Radeon HD 4650
Windows 7 64bit

Xbox 360 w/ 20Gb HDD (2008 edition) & XBL Gold.

Hello all. Just to get a rough image of the opinions floating round on Bungie.net, since i haven't been around here long, please as many of you as possible give your opinions of Halo 2 Vista. Try not to Troll, but i do want honest opinions here, so i don't have any issues with negative views.

I personally am really looking forward to it, i think Bungie have done an awesome job so far, seeing the Video's and Screenshots. I personally don't mind it being Vista only, i can understand why they are doing that too. It ensures they spend 100% effort on getting it 100% right on just one OS, rather 50% for both XP and Vista and only getting it half right for both OS's. The very big graphical improvements are also well worth spending money upgrading to vista for. The Map editor will also give people more incentives to buy it, as custom content is always good with multiplayer.

What do you guys think?

Graphics are the biggest thing for me, I already own it on Xbox. I wanna see character models better than Quake 4 ( screenshot). The map maker doesn't really interest me, but it might be pretty fun.

Ehh, Vista will be expensive to buy, not to mencion the minimum requirements...

If you ask me, it isn't worth it, you need to buy the OS (I head its around $400), update your hardware (Hardware = Not cheap), and then finally the game, which i'd guess is $50/$40.
While, you could get an Xbox ($80), Live ($50), and Halo 2 ($15), which comes to a total of $145, see, you've got the Hardware, the online experience, and the game, for under the price of the Operating System that you need.

Hmm.

Online Co-op would be the biggest for me, as I woud play it all day if I could, however, I doubt it would work or be possible at all.

Why is everyone bashing Vista? Damnit, an OS doesn't need a damn game to sell itself. Honestly I'm way more excited about Vista than about Halo 2 PC, pretty much same as me15ter. Anyways what the hell are XBOX players doing here, and insulting Vista? 0_o

Sure, XBOX for 80 bucks, I would like to see that...

I'm not bashing, i'm giving points why I wouldn't buy it, sure i'll get Vista eventually (Well, maybe). Look at the facts. For an operating system, it eats up lots of RAM, i'm getting the facts accross.

As for Xbox for $80, looks, I found one for just under $60- here.

There you fo, the reasons why I won't get it, I can get the same experience for cheaper by using an Xbox.

Of course, there are reasons why people would prefer the PC version, for example, some people like to mod them, i'm not a modder, however, I just play the game. There are also probably a million other reasons why people would buy the PC version.

Hmm, I'm deciding whether using the 'O RLY' response or some sarcasm.

I'm actually doubting about the sarcasm.

There are a few things I need to point out here.

0. Its a totaly different experience.

1. You shouldn't be buying Vista because of halo 2, you should be buying it because it is a much needed upgrade to XP, and because of many other factors like security, stability, and usability. Theres alot of things you can do with a computer, were as you would be buying an xbox for the sole purpose of playing halo 2. ($65 for Xbox vs. $50 for Vista both with internet bills on the side)

2. Vista won't cost $400. The upgrade versions will be much cheaper, and if you have xp you qualify for an upgrade version. Non upgrade versions still won't cost $400 unless you go for the ultimate version (which isn't needed at all) and even then I doubt its $400.

3. You don't need to update your hardware very much unless its a few years old or you got a bargin bin dell. $25 for a 512 stick of ram is rather cheap. If you do need to do some major upgrading, you can spend $500 on upgrades and have a rather nice computer ready for Vista and H2V if you have a PCIe slot and a 939/intel 64bit equivalent processor slot. If you don't have PCIe you should be upgrading your motherboard which leads to just getting a whole new computer.

4. H2V has a map editor and custom content.

5. H2V can run an super high resolutions with upresed textures, higher poly models, very little LOD (no poping), and the ability to play with a mouse and keyboard OR x360 controler.

I am awaiting the Custom content creator. That is what H2V is all about for me. You haven't seen what the H2 engine can do until you give it to us modders, and trust me, we will be pushing it to its limits very quickly.

Multiplayer is another plus, being free and all. I don't like matchmaking at all, so its nice to see there is a server browser.

I'm more excited about Vista itself then with Halo 2. The increased security, the cool GUI, and the increased functionality. Seriously all these people who whine and complain about Vista, they're worse than parents who think High speed internet or Cable TV is "Just a fad".

Cheers, dude.

And truthfully, I don't think Pokeh's bashing Vista, he's not asking "WHY NO XP VISTA SUX" or anything of the sort.

One, that's not true. Personally, I've seen people run Halo PC with a 6800 Ultra and 6600, and they look better then the Xbox version for me. A 6800 is not even the latest card, so imagine playing Halo 2 Vista with a 8800 GTX, you would problably bee able to see freaking anything with that.....

And that's one of many reasons why I choose PC over Console. I may not have best GPU, but when I get that 8800 GTX, I will be making montages everytime I play enjoying the superios textures of H2V.

The too expensive issue, just get a job now and save. Or just get a job now and save for 360 and Halo 2 and Halo 3 and Xbox Live account. I agree, it's way more simple to get a 360 and play, but PC's for me are just much more fun to work with, wether is building it from scratch or playing games....but sometimes I feel like my playing on my Xbox more then PC.

Though he's not the typical hater, his facts are still quite incorrect, as they have been pointed out by various members, such as Vista pricing. A simple upgrade will cost $100.

LOL you mentioned the requirements like if they are terribly high. 1.0 GHz processor, like that is a high speed. 1 gig of ram, i have 2 on both my laptop and desktop, it does not have me worried. what about the graphics card, is that a big problem? nah most cards have at least 128 megabytes of ram, at least to those that will be playing the game, otherwise the rest of the people wont be playing the game anyways.

Woe is me. I won't be getting Vista for at least a year, maybe two. Even then, I doubt that I'd have a machine capable of running it.

No, it's not worth my money (I don't have any lol), and I don't even have the appropriate hardware. I'm more of an Elder Scrolls fanboy anyways. Maybe in the far future.

Dude, if you can run Elder Scrolls 4 even half well then your PC will be powerful enough to play Halo 2 Vista and run Vista fine. Also, in relation to ur sig, i have an Intel GMA900 integrated graphics card on my Laptop, which isn't even a new one from Intel, it runs Halo full graphics at 1024x768 with all the specular and shading glory that you get from ATI or Nvidia graphics cards :P Integrated cards are MUCH better these days, just not as good as ATI or Nvidia by far, heh, but i make do when gaming on the go.

Thanks all of you for your posts. I like the way there are lots of members here that seem to realise that Vista will, in fact, be a very good OS and a massive jump forward from Windows XP. This seems to be a much more reasonable place to go to relating to Halo 2 and Vista. All i got on Gamespot was constant noobage and violent bickering between members. I call myself Andrew on GS, if any of you have seen me there...Agamemnon?

I can run Halo everything on at 1152x864 30+ FPS. Intel 865G, no shaders, but okay. I ordered a motherborad that will play Oblivion half-decently when I get my hands on it.

Firstoff, Mawzorz prides itself on behavior. Enough said.

Secondly, being a laptop owner myself, yes, integrated chipsets have come a helluva long way, but at the same time, so have games. Half-Life 2 is a good example. It runs beautifully on both chipsets and full GPUs, mostly because of the optimization VALVe put into the game.

And yes, if you look at everything from the rewritten base coding to the new GUI, Vista certainly looks like it's going to be similar to the jump from Windows 3.1 to 95.
